Michael, the owner of the company, provided competitive pricing on major components and had his installer, Donovan, complete some rather complex installations. We now have a large screen 5.1 home theater system in our great room and a TV mounted to our wall in a bedroom and they both work great. Donovan is a smart problem solver with great knowledge of electronic systems and does expert installations.
What really impressed me about Paradise Village was that we recently discovered a glitch in the system involving HDMI Extender equipment. I notified Michael and he quickly exchanged the parts and sent over Donovan to replace the defective parts. It is most important to me that when we choose to deal with a merchant, that they provide excellent service after the sale. That is exactly what Michael provided, without hesitation, and that is excellent customer service in my book.
I spent two days in my house waiting for the arrival and non-completion for a job that should have taken less than two hours. The technician disappeared for the afternoon today after working for one-half hour and yesterday was basically clueless and spent five hours mostly on his cell phone for personnel business. The owner over priced this work by at least $ 150. I asked him for an additional estimate to install a new TV and the estimate was $2300 as compared to Baillo's for the same work of almost a $ 1000 less.
Basically you would only buy and work with this company if you value lousy service and rip off prices!!
This is where the story takes a positive turn. The tech who came out, Donovan, was professional, competent, and pleasant. He did the work, explained what he was doing, showed me how to use the new equipment, and was quite personable about it. He even charged me significantly less than was estimated.
Unfortunately, there is little competition in home theater in Albuquerque, or I would never have put up with the three reschedules and the attitude. Even with the limited options, though, I would NEVER use Paradise again. I would certainly use the tech again though.
I called Paradise Village to set up an appointment. I wanted
to get an estimate on installing rear ceiling speakers to make our system a 5.1
surround system. I also wanted them to check and make sure that my system was
hooked up correctly as I just purchased a new TV which Best Buy installed. I
read all the good reviews about Paradise so I was looking forward to having a
specialist come and completely go through my system to insure I am taking
advantage of my hi-end system. Also was not sure how the new Samsung TV should integrate
into my Marantz components and Focal speakers. I was no longer getting any
sound out of my central speaker and I wanted to make sure it was installed
properly.
They did not want to come out and give me a written estimate
they wanted to do it over the phone with me describing the type of ceiling etc.
The phone estimate was between $200.00 and $300.00 to install the speakers and
check my system. What I now realize is that they thought I already had a set of
speakers but I didn?t. I thought that included the speakers. That is why they
needed to come to my house to look it over. I could then go to the store and
discuss the various types of speakers and compare prices.
This is partly my fault; I should have just gone there
instead of calling. I think I ended up talking to one of the installers. This
is a New Mexico thing. In most cities you call and talk to someone who schedules
appointments, service calls and estimates and no one else, but not in this
state. In this state they want you to call the actual installer. Weird.
They called me at work and said they want to change the
appointment from 1:00pm to 11:00am, so I left work and met them. They were
pretty much on time. The guys were extremely courteous and answered all my
questions. They cleaned up after themselves and were very polite. I was told
they would have to drill a couple of holes in my living room wall so they could
fish the wires down to my receiver. Well that?s okay as long as they patch up
the holes.
While drilling through my living room wall they drilled right
through to the master bedroom and right through our expensive imported William
and Morris reproduction wallpaper. They said they would pay to repair or
replace the wallpaper. The speakers were installed and the young man tested all
the speakers. They all worked except for my sub-woofer which I was told would require
service.
The young man reconnected my inputs and said my DVD player
and TV will work off the TV mode on my receiver then the TV would have to be
set on component DVD. No problem simple enough. Even though the screen on my receiver
said ?TV Analog? it was actually a digital signal.
My A/V receiver is design to read any sound input and
automatically use the proper format. So I thought this was a little strange.
But okay he is the expert. So I knew how to go to the TV and pick out my source
for the TV and DVD player. After they left I started to run down the channels
and I got nothing. About 2/3rds of the channels were not operating and the ones
that were had all kinds of visual static. It would get stuck on one channel
while the info below told me it was a different station. When I went to channel
212 I got a big ?CBS?, 220 a big ?PBS? etc. and an error message from Comcast I
think it said error code #8. My DVD player had a great picture but
sounded like a telegraph key. I also discovered that my wood floor had about a
two inch gouge in it behind the left speaker.
I called Comcast and they said it was an installation issue.
So I setup an appoint for the next day between 7:00am and 8:00am (making me
late for work.) To make a long story short, the problem was a faulty splitter. The TV is now working properly (as
far as I can tell), but not my DVD sound. Both Paradise Village guys were very courteous
and friendly and cleaned up after themselves. But still not exactly the
experience I was expecting. One more thing, when they showed up they asked me
where the speakers were and I said I don?t have any. So they got someone to
bring out a set of speakers. The speakers were about $300.00 a pair. Total cost
was about $700.00. Not sure if I will have them come back to properly setup my
system or give it a go myself on my next day off.
