After a few preliminary meetings, Michael provided multiple copies of detailed, architectural-quality drawings with creative native plant selections to provide continuous color, year-round interest, shade and privacy.
The plans included re-grading, drip irrigation, new walkways, expanded deck, aesthetic structural improvements, focal points, water feature and landscape lighting.
Michael brought photos of every plant and potential water features, all of which perfectly incorporated our requests from our early meetings and his questionnaire.
The plans were so meticulous, you could DIY if so inclined. We wanted a contractor to do the install and Michael recommended Whelchel & Gleason, with whom we were equally pleased. He stopped by to review their work at key stages and create a final punch-list.

Several very pleasant and efficient meetings. Took time to understand our views, developed plans that reflected them, but also applied his expertise. Found a good contractor, and continued to work with us to help supervise the construction, irrigation and planting work.

The project turned out marvelously, just as designed.  Michael Polikoff is a true artist as well as an accomplished architect, a rare combination indeed.  His understanding of synergy with geometric shapes, space utilization, and intriguing design features is truly impressive.  His knowledge of botanical varieties, and their adaptability to various environments and locations, is enviable.  Michael took my small, rectilinear back yard from a "ho-hum", run-of-the-mill tract home layout to a "WOW!", eye-popping botanical garden sanctuary, complete with a unique custom cedar pergola, saltille-tiled extended patio, six-foot lion's head with two-tiered water fountain, and flowering  "focus" areas surrounding a central lawn feature.  I couldn't have been happier with the design and final product.  He even brokered a suitable compromise between the tile company and I, when the custom tile order was miss-filled and shipped to the site.  I requested plenty of color in the landscape design, and he delivered in style.  He was very helpful in selecting a contractor to implement the design.  Although there were bumps in the road with this contractor, the final product for the given price was more than a great value.  I would strongly recommend Michael Polikoff to any commercial or residential client looking for a talented landscape architect possessing insight, vision, breadth of knowledge, and a successful track record.  He was highly responsive to my questions, punctual in appointments, and always "on-call" should the need arise.  For such a talented individual, his billing rates are very reasonable.
