Window Service

They finally finished at the end of July. They have one guy doing installation from that one Lowe's and he's busy and he's not always around. He installed windows that were damaged. They clean them up they call it with an Emory board. I ordered these windows brand new why would he have to fix them. Everybody is blaming each other. Lowe's doesn't cover the whole frame, they just cover the corners with cardboard and so Lowe's is saying the scratches are coming from the deliverers. I noticed that the guy that was delivering the windows was sliding them down the ramp instead of going to the end of the ramp and handing it off, they were sliding it down. It has been the worst nightmare I've every experienced. They left a mess. All the guy did was complain. I would not recommend going through Lowe's.
They don't even clean the windows. That's another thing. The windows were all marked up from the tape that was on them. They don't even take the time to clean the windows so I'm going to have to hire someone to come out. They should have at least cleaned the windows. The installer left a scratch on one of the frames, didn't say anything about it. Left a scratch on a piece of frame, didn't say anything about it. Told me he was going to get a piece of glass to replace a pane and never ordered it.

We use Lowes for all our hardware and tool needs. We've bought a rake, shovel, LED lightbulbs, Weber BBQ kettle, you name it, from Lowes.
We had a very bad experience with Home Depot's professional contractor services in California, and won't use them for anything anymore. Lowe's is far more professional and helpful.

Some people clearly have issues with stores like Lowe's and other "big box" establishments when purchasing windows.  We decided to take a chance.  They carry good windows (Pella brand).  Their estimators followed up with us as promised, and we placed our order.  They said it would take three weeks for the windows to arrive (custom sizes).  Indeed, they called us one day short of the three weeks, saying windows were in.  Their installer had also come by to do the final measurements before placing the order for the custom-sized windows.  He was clearly very experienced, and explained the different types of windows, how they are installed, etc.  When the windows arrived, we set up a time for them to be delivered at our home and placed in our garage overnight.  The installers were here promptly the next morning.  They were efficient, professional, and courteous.  They were careful to make as little mess as possible, and cleaned up after themselves as they went along.  They replaced all seven windows within a period of about 5 - 6 hours.  All in all, the only complaint I have is getting past the switchboard at the store to actually speak to someone in install sales.  They have no voice mail system, and no way to leave a message.  Yeah, spent a little time on the phone trying to get through.  But, I would certainly use them again - price was right!  We spent a total of $3,400 for seven high-quality windows, installed - including one that was 4' x 8'.  All old materials were taken away as part of the service.  Happy customer :)

Ordered windows at the end of December of 2014. Windows arrived third week of January and installed late January. The screens that were delivered were the incorrect screens. On the day of installation when this was discovered by the installer he called Lowes to inform of the problem. We were told that the order for the correct screens would be accomplished that day and delivered within two weeks (mid February). We called Lowes two weeks later. We were told that they had been ordered but there was a delay in the order; we should have them within another two weeks (end of February). We did not receive any correspondence from Lowes but followed-up with another call in mid March. We were again told that they had been ordered but when pressed for a delivery date, we learned that once more, they had not been ordered. They were finally ordered on that day and we received a follow-up call from the install department informing us that they had placed the order. Finally, the order was placed and the screens arrived in less than two weeks. Over two months and much prodding to get them ordered and the error was finally corrected.
We ordered a gas range slide-in at the same time. The range was delivered on the same day and did not fit the space correctly with the range sitting too far out into our kitchen. We worked with Whirlpool and the installer to get the stove to fit with Whirlpool offering trim pieces for us to allow the counter-tops to be cut and then the edges covered to allow the range to fit. Whirlpool offered a delivery date of Mid March for the trim but that order was delayed with them eventually sending us the incorrect trim pieces at the end of March. Meanwhile the installer who was to do the work offered alternative trim pieces to retrofit which was appreciated but not the ideal solution. We are still working with Whirlpool to receive the correct trim pieces. Lowes has not been involved and we will not be seeking any more assistance from them in this regard.
We informed the installed who installed the range at the time of delivery that we wanted a new sink and faucet for our kitchen. He told us to order one with the same counter cut-out size as the current sink. We searched for weeks and couldn't find one. We called the store to ask for assistance and were told that since we had not paid for an additional estimate they could not assist us. We went to the store on the 25th of March and paid for the estimate. We received a call from another installer who informed us that she was out of town but would have someone who was covering her, call us to set up a time for the estimate. We did receive a call and scheduled the estimate. A man came out a few weeks ago to do the estimate and told us that it would take two days for us to receive the estimate from Lowes. We have not received any correspondence since. We will be requesting a refund for the estimate and will be using a private contractor to install our new sink and faucet.

Update: We finally received a call from Lowe's with the estimate - over a month after the visit for the measure and after our new sink and faucet were installed with perfection using a private contractor. The estimate was of course no longer needed but interestingly, it was 2-1/2 times what the contractor we hired charged.

I think we had a dollar or something left on the card and that was used a couple of weeks ago. We used it for whatever we are buying at that time. Sometimes Lowe's has things that Home Depot doesn't and sometimes it just depends on how close they are. Home Depot is actually a little bit closer to us than Lowe's is so it just depends on what neighborhood we're in. Everything is good but there's always room for improvement. Their price is comparable and the quality of service I think they are all about the same. Some of them they are better than others.

The process of purchasing the flooring went OK. I'm not sure what incentives the sales people have, but they're not that into it. We led the process and made most of the decisions through research in the store, using our smartphones.
The subcontractor/installer came out (I can't remember their name--CCC something?). Anyway, they took al the necessary measurements and seemed on the level. Then the installers came out. This was another contractor that the sub contracted with. It was a three-person team that seemed to have one really experienced person among them. They seemed challenged regularly by things like the step in my living room (where the laminate was installed).
They screwed up the step. The way they installed the trim along the step left major gaps which they filled with some kind of wood colored silicone. It didn't hold up very well.
Even though they removed the floor moldings along the bottom of the walls they cut the laminate too short and the edges of the laminate can be seen at certain points. Doesn't look good.
I found after the laminate was put down that the concrete floors need to be leveled, or there can be issue with the laminate. This was never brought up by the sales person or the contractor(s). There are a lot of dips and bubbles in the flooring and in the hallway, right in front of a bedroom door, there is a corner poking up. They came out to try to fix the bad edge cuts and the hallway area but they only made it worse. They tried to glue it and used some kind of varnish to remove the glue mess they made and took the sheen off the laminate over a 5and quot; diameter area. And the corner still pokes up.
The guy that measured didn't include the closets in his specs, even though I specifically told him I wanted them included (it was also on the sheet he gave me). The installation team told me they didn't have enough flooring and wouldn't be able to finish unless I wanted to go buy some more flooring right then. I did. And they still came up short, but this time there solution was to just allow really large gaps under the thresholds at the closet door in the hallway and other places. Because of the the planks in the hallway slide when you walk on them--particularly in the winter. and there are gaps forming between other planks. We have to constantly kick at the planks to slide them back in place. It's like sliding on ice when then slide under your feet.
I'll have to pay extra to fix this because the sliding planks weren't noticeable until the season changed. But then the installation guarantee had expired. The store was very rude about it; I had to pull teeth just to get them to talk about it. Horrible customer service in the Lowe's (Cottonwood) flooring department.
Long story short: I felt like I spent about $5,000 for good flooring that was installed poorly and without any consideration to quality. even the carpet was cut too short at the walls. It's a berber and doesn't reach under the moldings, so it doesn't look quite right.
I would never use Lowe's again for any kind of big job. I really only go there when I know they're cheaper than Home Depot on something or I'm in a pinch for swamp cooler parts.

The employee in the kitchen department was not helpful and extremely
rude. I came to store to make final payment and was sent away twice
because the employee was and quot;too busyand quot; to help me (I was the only customer
in the department). I wandered the store for about 40 minutes until he
reluctantly completed the transaction. I asked to use a $25 coupon and
was told that the front register would deduct for the coupon. The front
register would not honor the coupon. The independent contractor
installing the counter top provided a good service. However, beware -
the price of replacing the counter top does not include the plumbing. I
had to pay an additional $240.

Lowe's prices were very competitive and there was a one-year warranty on the installation of my carpet. I went with their recommendation for the best pad. Their installation was very quick and the installers cleaned up after themselves. They didn't speak English and communication was a little challenging. But here I am, just three years later, and my carpet is stretched out, bulging everywhere, seams getting frayed, and it looks terrible. I have no animals and 90% of the time, I am the only one walking on the carpet (meaning it gets very little traffic). It will now cost me to find someone who can restretch the carpet in a room of many angles and paying someone to move the furniture. I went back to Lowe's to see if they could do anything and, of course, the answer was no. I am so disappointed with their carpet that I would never go to them for carpet or installation of anything ever again.

For cabinets, I would highly recommend them. I had a great experience. The installer was great. With countertops, they did a great job, but I wasn't quite happy. It took six weeks to get the countertops installed after we had the cabinets installed. The wait on that wasn't that great. They should have organized better.

The workers were professional and friendly. One worker was teaching the other, but the install went fine, and they were quick.
We had another small prep sink with garbage disposal that was never used, but leaked. They removed it cheerfully without cost to us.

The individuals who came out to install the carpet would receive an "A" grade for responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism. They arrived on time and installed the carpet quickly and professionally. They even used some of the old carpet to fill in a hole in the carpet in another room, and they did such a good job the repair isn't noticeable. However, I give an overall score of "C" because I was not happy with the customer service at Lowes itself. There was only one person in the carpet department, who said she was at lunch when I arrived and said I would have to wait until she got back. Although I spoke with several other employees, including the manager on duty that day, I was told only that individual knew the details regarding the contract and I should wait for her. So I sat down to wait, and then she returned and proceeded to help another customer, who arrived after I did but was apparently a friend of hers based on their conversastion. When I protested that I was waiting, she said she was still at lunch, but then whispered to the other customer that she would punch in for him when I had turned my back and she though I could not hear her. I ended up waiting an hour and a half to just pay the bill - I had selected and given my information for the carpet the previous week and a technician had come to the house and performed the measurements. I was not happy and based on that rude customer service I no longer shop at Lowes but now go to Home Depot down the street.

Cabinet purchase was a very good experience. The salesman was very helpful and cooperated in my goal to keep the costs low (this if for a house that I am preparing to sell). Lowe's had a sale based on the amount spent, and he suggested specific upgrades that got the purchase high enough for a substantial discount -- thus the upgrades actually saved money. Delivery was through a local company. They gave me a few days notice, and delivered the cabinets when they said. The only downside was that it took over 5 weeks to get them in, considerably more time than the salesman quoted. The countertop order was an OK experience. A contractor came out to measure, but the company apparently is small and only one person does the measuring so I ended up have some difficulty in getting it scheduled. It was over a week. I had to go to the store twice, because the salesman had gone out to a job site the first time I went. When I ordered, the salesman quoted 10 days to get them installed, but it was actually over 3 weeks. It takes two weeks for them to arrive, and scheduling with the contractor took another week. The installers did a good job of fitting them, but only brought white caulk (which did not match) so I stopped them and did the caulking myself later. Overall, this was a good value in terms of good products at very good prices. You just have to be a bit patient.
