All of the locks worked well after service with the exception of one that required a revisit and corrections in less than 15 minutes.

Overall, Gary did a terrific job with our two new locks on our home. 

In our phone communications before our first appointment, Gary was happy to answer all the questions I had about what types of new locks I should buy. He's a bit loquacious, so this took some time, but he was thorough and helpful.

We had an initial miscommunication (entirely my fault), and I wasn't home when I should have been for our first appointment (for which he was on time). He was more than nice about it. We rescheduled, and he was a bit later than originally planned for the second appointment. He called to tell me he wouldn't be making it on time, but was even later than he said he would on the phone. I believe I let him know that I was working at home all day, so it wasn't an issue.

The job ended up being a bit complex: the hole in one door wasn't big enough, so he had to enlarge it, and also, the tip of the old decorative brass handle on our 1951 home stuck up too far for the new deadbolt keypad lock that sat above it. But no problem: Gary expertly expanded the old hole, and with my permission, sawed off the tip of the old door handle, even curving it to make it aesthetically in keeping with the original look of the handle.

When he was done, he showed me repeatedly how to work the new locks and even showed me a trick with one of our door handle locks that I didn't know about (i.e., how to keep the handle locked at all times, instead of having it pop open when the handle is turned).

He didn't sweep up when he was done -- this would be a nice service, but not essential.

The price I listed for the work he did isn't reflective of the whole job, as our realtors paid to have the house re-keyed. However, given all the work he did, the combined charges were more than fair.

I use Lightning Lock and Key over and over again, to rekey the locks on new homes of my customers. I first met him when he worked on my personal home several times, re-keying the locks, adding deadbolts, installing keyless entry system. I now use him all the time for my real estate buyer customers. My closing gift to them is hiring Gary to rekey their new homes. He's the best price in town and is reliable, courteous, conscientious, and an all around good person. My customers always have good things to say about him. Gary always offers to come back if there is any problem, but there never is. I love it when I find service providers like Gary who care about the work they do. He's wonderful.

Gary was right on time, took a look at all the different locks. He suggested we had the locks keyed with the same key all over the house and that's exactly what we had in mind. It took him about an hour and fifteen minutes to go up and down the stairs, inside and outside, and change and renew all the locks and make the new keys for us. He is a wizard at his work; VERY experienced and willing to take the time to check his work and explain everything to us. We are grateful for Angie's List so that we can share our experiece.
