This is not a comment on the quality of the maintenance done to my roof, but on the interaction with the owner
Jim Doyle.
Doyle Roofing had done maintenance on my roof and I had asked if they could also put shingles on my dog house. Apparently that was impossible as the condition of the dog house was so bad they could not do it and I accepted that. However, Paula, Jim’s daughter was rude to me and screamed at me.
Several weeks later, I called Jim Doyle for a different problem and I thought I could speak to him if not his daughter. He also screamed at me. He would not let me get a word in edgewise, and he just kept screaming at me about the doghouse which was not the reason I was calling him. I eventually hung up on him. Based on my experience with him I would not recommend him. I found that he does not know how to treat customers and screams at them.
"We strive to take care of our customers needs. Occasionally we fall short. We are however proud that after 40 years of service we are still here to field comments and take care of problems. We would be happy to sit down with [member name removed] and discuss any current matters. After 10 years it's probably time for some maintenance."
"Thank you! We try our best to make jobs like yours our standard in delivery."
"We, as always, have tried our best to supply a good product at a reasonable price. This has been the case for nearly 40 years. When the wind speed exceeds the manufacturer's limits on the material there is nothing we can do for the warranty. Products can only be warranted within the manufacturer's specifications. This is not the fault of the contractor, but, as in many cases we get blamed."
Update: July 17, 2012
Mitch Doyle called me this morning and the first thing he said was that he intended to sue me for this review. Those of you reading, my review is my exact account of my experience to the best of my ability. Instead of being compassionate Mr. Doyle seems to feel that threatening his customers is preferred recourse. I will be contacting the AG, and BBB as well.
Mitch Doyle called again and left a voicemail in the afternoon apologizing for our interaction this morning and nicely requesting that we get in touch to work toward resolution.
Update: July 18, 2012
It seems that I only had a short period of time in which to respond to nicety because Jim Doyle left a voicemail today at 7:21 am and said that he was going to print out my Angie's list review to give to his attorney. He said it looked like we were headed for court as the result of my review. He also listed items he was going to and quot;needand quot;in order to do the same. I feel that this company is and has tried to intimidate me as a result of this review rather than trying to resolve the issue.
I returned Jim's call surprised again that their first course of action for the day was to remind me that they were going to take me to court. During our phone call Jim accused me of libel and slander citing that I had estimated the cost of the work at $1500. He said that I only paid a $50 dollar deductible as required in my contract with my home warranty provider therefore that is how much I paid.
This is absolutely true and allow me to use this as an opportunity to clarify. My previous figure was an estimate of how much I thought the job cost the warranty company. I paid $50 plus tax as a deductible on a home warranty claim which was my recourse for resolving my roof leak. I would point out, however that it is likely the warranty company paid significantly more for the work. Jim refused to provide the exact amount the company paid him and insisted that I get the information from the warranty company which leaves me baffled.
Ultimately the tone of our conversation went from confrontational and negative to what I hope was positive and heading toward an amicable resolution.
"We are endevouring to get the paperwork from the homeowner concerning the alleged water bill and leak detection. We then present these to those who can best decipher what, if anything, was done or not done. The customers, contrary to their statement, have never paid us 1500.00 for any amount of work."
"The point the gentleman fails to post is that the roof has been out of warranty for many years. Further, the other repair we did for them was for wind damage and had nothing to do with the installation originally. All roof require maintenence from time to time. Roofs like his where the original design is not optimum and access is limited by design oversight require more attention."
"Thank you. We want our customers to be comforable with our service and our technicians. We appreciate your feedback."
I got a call back the next day and they they told me they were swamped because of the time of year but would get someone out to inspect my roof as soon as they could.
That turned out to be only a few days and the inspection was professional and through.
After I was given the estimate (which was less than I expected) I took the authorization form in and was scheduled for the next week.
The crew showed up on time and ready and replaced 28 shingles as well as sealed off the various areas of the roof that have penetrations.
The crew was great, they got the job done in good time and cleaned up afterwards.
My roof looks great again and I would recommend Doyle Roof Masters to everyone I know.
"Thank you! We really appreciate you taking the time to share."
"Thank you for telling your friends."
