In January 30, 2019 I had several shingles blow off the roof due to high winds. I called Doyle Roof Masters for an inspection and/or repairs. Doyle inspected the roof and told me that the few shingles that blew off would not qualify for an insurance claim due to high winds. The replaced the missing shingles and re-sealed the vents for $215. They told me that I may need to look at replacing my roof within the next couple years. Doyle actually emailed me pictures of the roof but I didn't know what hail damage looked like! They charged me $215 instead of billing my homeowners for $10,000 for a new roof! Then a neighbor a couple doors from me had a new roof installed and I asked for the name of the company that did the work for when I would need to have my roof replaced. He told me that his homeowners insurance company paid to replace his roof at not cost to him due to hail damage. Being that our houses are so close, I decided to call his roofer and ask for an inspection. As soon as the roof inspector got on the roof, he told me that I definitely had hail damage. I couldn't believe it! I found that the date of the hail storm was July 31, 2018 and Doyle missed it completely! I was so shocked that I called another roofer to confirm hail damage and they too confirmed it! When my insurance adjuster came he immediately said there was definite hail damage and they would replace my roof under my homeowners policy! After the other 2 roofing companies showed me pictures of the hail damage, I can see the pictures from Doyle showed the same damage but their inspector wasn't able to recognize hail damage! I was told the insurance will pay on hail damage up to one year after the event. If I had not called a different roofer, I would have lost the opportunity to file an insurance claim!!! Can't even express my disgust and regret for ever doing business with Doyle Roof Masters!

Mostly good. They quoted a fair, competitive price, patiently answered all our questions beforehand, and when we finally made our decision they scheduled the job just a few days later. Wind delayed the start but they got it done, sending a double-crew the last day to finish it quickly. Overall the quality of the work was good, except for some small features of the home architecture that are essentially decorative. As soon as my wife & I saw the shingles on those small features we were disappointed with the aesthetics of them. Fortunately, when Mr. Doyle came by for final inspection he didn't argue about them -- his reply was, "Well, I don't think it'll leak" followed by "What do you want us to do?" I pointed at the neighbor's house for an example and told him "I want it to look NICE like the neighbor's." His crew came the very next day and did a much better job. Pitch-roof house with Owens-Corning shingles, including removing the old roofing. Yes I would hire Doyle again, even though a little disappointed that we had to ask for a re-do on the small details.

Identified the problem, figured out how to fix it, and solved it correctly. Additionally found a few other issues on the roof and patched them while they were up there.

This is not a comment on the quality of the maintenance done to my roof, but on the interaction with the owner

Jim Doyle.

Doyle Roofing had done maintenance on my roof and I had asked if they could also put shingles on my dog house.  Apparently that was impossible as the condition of the dog house was so bad they could not do it and I accepted that.  However, Paula, Jim’s daughter was rude to me and screamed at me.

Several weeks later, I called Jim Doyle for a different problem and I thought I could speak to him if not his daughter. He also screamed at me. He  would not let me get a word in edgewise, and he just kept screaming at me about  the doghouse which was not the reason I was calling him. I eventually hung up on him. Based on my experience with him I would  not recommend him. I found that  he does not know how to treat customers and screams at them.

Four guys -- with the knowledge and experience to do a whole new roof (not just a hole in our roof!) -- showed up on time and as scheduled. They were profession and friendly. I showed them the damaged roof vents and they did the rest. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. They treated us like family -- except no one in my family could do what they did!

Jim Doyle partnered up with an out of state outfit called RWS after the hailstorm in 2004.  For those of you who lived in the area back then, you might remember all those white "Doyle" trucks around town.  After about a year they all disappeared.  RWS moved on to the next storm.  Anyway, I hired this group believing they were Doyle Roof Masters.  I even checked with my insurance agent before hiring them to see if he would recommend them which he did.  First thing Doyle did is seal up my swamp cooler so there was no drainage for the water.  The swamp cooler sat above a room I was using for storage at the time so I didn't see what was happening -- I sure heard what happened though -- the ceiling caved in from water damage!!  Doyle sent a "contractor" over to do repairs.  It was ugly.  Every tape seam showed.  Doyle sent the same guy back to fix the tape seams.  I asked the guy to see his contractor's license before letting him back into my house.  I was not surprised when he left and never returned.  I had to force Doyle's hand to get them to send me a real contractor to fix the messes.  While going through all of this, it dawned on me that there was never a permit pulled to do the work.  I called the city to see if that was required and they said it was.  They also informed me that Jim Doyle was the head of the roofing commission and knew better but he didn't have the habit of pulling permits.  Again, I had to force Doyle's hand to get them to pull the permit.  The roof did not pass inspection because there was no way for the inspector to see what felt was used under the shingles.  Jim Doyle refused to cooperate any further.  I filed complaints with the BBB and the Attorney General's office.  I learned that there were over two dozen recent complaints about Doyle Roof Masters filed with the Attorney General's office.  The attorney general's office intervened and did help me accomplish a few more things with Jim Doyle but a complete resolution was never reached.  I considered taking them to court but was worn down by then and tired of fighting.  As for my insurance agent, he no longer recommends Doyle Roof Masters to any of his clients.  He received several complaints from his customers about Jim Doyle around the same time I had trouble with him.  So my advice to all Angie's List subscribers -- run, don't walk.  Stay away!!

"We strive to take care of our customers needs. Occasionally we fall short. We are however proud that after 40 years of service we are still here to field comments and take care of problems. We would be happy to sit down with [member name removed] and discuss any current matters. After 10 years it's probably time for some maintenance."

They call us every year and do a free inspection. They usually find a few small repairs, and this charge is typical. For the decade or so that they have been doing this, we have not had any leaks at all. Prior to that, we had leaks and resultant interior damage every year. They have never suggested replacing the roof; they simply do these little repairs once a year and we stay dry!

It is marvelous! They are very good roofers and every job they have done has been acceptable. If I had any criticism at my bid that their prices are a little on high side, I would say that it was high. It is moderate and reasonable but not low. The non-profit has used this company for years. They have excellent quality and they are very professional.

The price was a little high, but it didn't bother me at all as they were extremely professional. They showed up on time, they were very clear in their communication, they inspected the roof properly, and completed the job.

The interesting thing is that I had Doyle do as roof for me 10 years ago, and I was very pleased. They put a second roof, over the first roof, and that went well. The roof they did for me in 2005, was installed over bare wood. In hind sight, I see there were a number of things Doyle did not do well. The reason we had the roof replaced in the first place, was because we had a hail storm. Compared to my neighbor's roofing jobs, Doyle was quite reasonable. I will not be using Doyle Roof Masters in the future.
Response from Doyle Roof Masters Inc
"We, as always, have tried our best to supply a good product at a reasonable price. This has been the case for nearly 40 years. When the wind speed exceeds the manufacturer's limits on the material there is nothing we can do for the warranty. Products can only be warranted within the manufacturer's specifications. This is not the fault of the contractor, but, as in many cases we get blamed."

This is the absolute worst company I've ever encountered in any kind of business. The roofers had to come out multiple times and it took many months for them to locate and repair the leak. When the leak was finally repaired, they had removed my south swamp cooler which started leaking from the overflow due to it no longer being attached flat on the roof. The leak began after this company detached the cooler for their repair. As a result I was left with a very high water bill, high consumption notice from the city, and I had to hire a leak detection company to locate the leak which I had to correct on my own. The owner is rude, and in every conversation has been hostile and in my opinion doesn't care.

Update: July 17, 2012

Mitch Doyle called me this morning and the first thing he said was that he intended to sue me for this review. Those of you reading, my review is my exact account of my experience to the best of my ability. Instead of being compassionate Mr. Doyle seems to feel that threatening his customers is preferred recourse. I will be contacting the AG, and BBB as well.

Mitch Doyle called again and left a voicemail in the afternoon apologizing for our interaction this morning and nicely requesting that we get in touch to work toward resolution.

Update: July 18, 2012

It seems that I only had a short period of time in which to respond to nicety because Jim Doyle left a voicemail today at 7:21 am and said that he was going to print out my Angie's list review to give to his attorney. He said it looked like we were headed for court as the result of my review. He also listed items he was going to and quot;needand quot;in order to do the same. I feel that this company is and has tried to intimidate me as a result of this review rather than trying to resolve the issue.

I returned Jim's call surprised again that their first course of action for the day was to remind me that they were going to take me to court. During our phone call Jim accused me of libel and slander citing that I had estimated the cost of the work at $1500. He said that I only paid a $50 dollar deductible as required in my contract with my home warranty provider therefore that is how much I paid.

This is absolutely true and allow me to use this as an opportunity to clarify. My previous figure was an estimate of how much I thought the job cost the warranty company. I paid $50 plus tax as a deductible on a home warranty claim which was my recourse for resolving my roof leak. I would point out, however that it is likely the warranty company paid significantly more for the work. Jim refused to provide the exact amount the company paid him and insisted that I get the information from the warranty company which leaves me baffled.

Ultimately the tone of our conversation went from confrontational and negative to what I hope was positive and heading toward an amicable resolution.

Response from Doyle Roof Masters Inc
"We are endevouring to get the paperwork from the homeowner concerning the alleged water bill and leak detection. We then present these to those who can best decipher what, if anything, was done or not done. The customers, contrary to their statement, have never paid us 1500.00 for any amount of work."

They were rude about it and charged us several hundred dollars more to come back and fix it again. Then it leaked again because they just laid the shingles right up against the house so the water was soaking those shingles and coming into the house. It was snowing and I was watching water come right through our ceiling. There was more water inside instead of outside. We didn't pay so he argued with us because he said it was a different incident. It was because the roof was put on improperly to begin with and he didn't want to admit that part. He was on time. After he argued with us in the front yard the last time, we called and told him that we didn't need his services. They did replace some shingles last summer but they didn't do the repair this time. We had to contact somebody else to come and fix their mistakes.
Response from Doyle Roof Masters Inc
"The point the gentleman fails to post is that the roof has been out of warranty for many years. Further, the other repair we did for them was for wind damage and had nothing to do with the installation originally. All roof require maintenence from time to time. Roofs like his where the original design is not optimum and access is limited by design oversight require more attention."

They put more gravel on the roof, redid the flashing and trimmed trees that were hanging over the roof. The price was good, I got a couple of estimates. They had a reputation at that point for being good roofers for that area. They came when they said they would and did exactly what they said they would do.

I was coming back from getting my mail and happened to look up at my roof and was concerned to see a good number of my shingles were gone. We had an amazingly windy spring and since monsoon season was just beginning I emailed Doyle Roof Masters for an estimate. Their web page is very user friendly.
I got a call back the next day and they they told me they were swamped because of the time of year but would get someone out to inspect my roof as soon as they could.
That turned out to be only a few days and the inspection was professional and through.
After I was given the estimate (which was less than I expected) I took the authorization form in and was scheduled for the next week.
The crew showed up on time and ready and replaced 28 shingles as well as sealed off the various areas of the roof that have penetrations.
The crew was great, they got the job done in good time and cleaned up afterwards.
My roof looks great again and I would recommend Doyle Roof Masters to everyone I know.

They were quick to respond to my need for a new roof when it was leaking. They replaced a portion of it and came back the next year to replace the rest of it. I have no more leaks and I have been happy with the product. They were the first to respond to my request so I didn't price anyone else out. I was happy with the price. I would absolutely use them again.
