Call for service the tech showed up the next day and did tests found that the vent damper failed. The cost for his visit was $164 which I thought was fare called his office and told them to get back with a quote to replace. One hour later I received a call from his office and was told the part and labor was over $950 to replace I told the person on the phone that was way too much for the part and it was only a 5-minute job for one person, they said the part had to be special ordered and was hard to get, I said forget it went into the house did a search for the part online and came up with over 20 companies with that part price ranging from $120 on the low end and $164 on the high end. No brainer I ordered the part and installed it myself in under 4 minutes and save over $850. Double check the cost if you do business with them or you will get screwed.

Two Desert Sun workmen did the complete job in 2 long days and a couple of hours the following day.  They were courteous and on-time each day.  They kept the work area clean and swept up at the end of the day.  Desert Suns coordinated with our roofing company, Alvarado, to have them seal the new "access holes" in the roof.  Shawn came on the last day of the project and checked things out.

Everything flowed smoothly.  Eric responded quickly to emails and phone calls.  He came to do a "walk through" 3 days after the project was completed.

We expect good service from Desert Suns as they installed our air conditioning system about seven years ago and have done twice yearly maintenance.  They continually have met their responsibilities and have been very pleasant on every occasion.

These are nice folks who seem to really care about their customers.  Do I dare say that they seem to be following the old fashioned, Golden Rule?

They had a good price and the hardware just looked the best from all the estimates I got. I would like others to know about this company because they just seem to be a very good company. They have good customer service and good product.

The job went really well from beginning to end. I was initially pretty surprised by the price, but got comparable bids and though Desert Suns was higher than the other two companies, they were the only company that did a heat rating (measured rooms, windows, etc....) to determine what the home needed. While other companies were willing to let me not put in all the duct work that would be necessary to allow the system to run efficiently, Desert Suns advised me that there was no point in paying for an efficient dual fuel combo unit, if I wasn't going to properly duct the unit and allow it to run efficiently. In the end, they were not that much more expensive than the other companies. When the installers cut into the roof to put in the return, they discovered that the roof had a pre-existing leak. The installers had the good sense to stop work and report the problem to me. The project was on hold while I coordinated a new roof. Eric did a great job. Sean the owner came out to the house twice to ensure that all was well - a hand's on guy. I don't really have anything negative to say about the experience.

Terrible, the work was not done properly. They never did what I asked them to do. The job looks like a mess and very amateurish.
Other companies see it and can't believe it.
The units were supposed to be new, later I found out that one was a year older.

Never use these people you will regret it.
Response from Desert Suns Heating & Cooling Inc.
"It's unfortunate to here this from Mrs. [member name removed]. I can only respond in the following manner. 1) The equipment was installed 10/08. The equipment was NOT used equipment and the equipment pieces where manufacturer in 07' and 08'. We did NOT misrepresent any equipment sold to her. We have documentation that states this fact. We purchased the equipment directly from the Trane dealership in Albuquerque. 2) We have NOT heard from Mrs. [member name removed] since 09'. As far we knew the equipment was operating per design. 3) For her to state such defamatory comments about the quality of our install in 2013 seems to be grossly overstated being that the install was done 5 years prior to this review. If something was wrong with installation we should have been contacted long before this review was given. 4) All out installs are done according to industry standards, local code requirements, and a final walk-thru's are done on all completed jobs to insure customer satisfaction. 5) For her to quote other companies stating "see it and can't believe it." I would think twice before I listen to a company that makes comments like that. That is simply unethical behavior. We know from being in the industry those kind of comments are made in desperation to get a customers business, not from ones business merits. In closing, to this day we haven't heard from Mrs. [member name removed] sharing any concerns she has over installation of this equipment."

Desert Suns installed a new Coleman gas furnace in April 2012. We began using the unit in November. On January 2, 2013 I decided it was time to change the filter, so I bought a Honeywell 24x24x1 filter at Home Depot. I removed the sheet metal cover from the slot for the filter (this part is called the and quot;transition, and quot; as I was told by Rob, the Desert Suns sales rep and technician) and started to insert the new filter. No luck. The expensive Honeywell filter would not fit into the slot. I took it back to Home Depot, got my money back and bought another filter - this time a different brand. Would not fit either. I called Desert Suns and was given a song and dance about how filters were like 2x4s. They might SAY 24x24x1, but that doesn't mean they ARE 24x24.x1. This from the woman answering the phone. When I talked to Rob he said the same thing. I wrote him a letter explaining that his analogy was faulty. I told him I understood that filters were not always the same, but that they should all fit into the transition marked 24x24x1. I asked him to take out the transition and have a new one fabricated correctly. Desert Suns declined to do so, saying they felt their installation was done correctly. I would add that the filter they carry, made by Aerostar, does fit into the transition, but just barely. The Aerostar filter is 23-3/8 inches long, and the transition is also 23-3/8 inches long, so it just fits. If aerostar goes out of business, or if they decide to change the specification of their filter, to, say, 23-1/2 inch, then I will be out of luck ever finding another filter for the unit. I did purchase a case of the filters from Desert Suns, which should last about 2 years if I change the filter monthly during the winter. If I should sell my house in the near future I'm going to have to do quite of bit of explaining to whoever is looking to purchase it. For their installation and refusal to acknowledge that it was done wrong, I give them an overall grade of D-

Response from Desert Suns Heating & Cooling Inc.
"Desert Suns Heating and Cooling did offer solutions to (removed member name) concern; of which none were acceptable to him, he simply wanted his transition replaced. The viable options we offered are as follows: a permanent cleanable/washable filter, a local company that will make filters for you, and continuing the ability to buy filters from us. None of our solutions were acceptable to him."

I have used them for several years and it has turned out good. I have been very happy with their service and their care. Periodically, the filters have to be changed in my clean air system and I have trouble trying to get it to reset itself. They have been very good and patient about trying to resolve any of my problems.

From the very first phone call to the end of the project these folks have been very professional. The did everything they said they would do in a clean and efficient manner. I will certainly use then in the future and strongly recommend them. I must single out their salesman Eric Stohr, he is very professional.
They had to replace a 12 year old heating and cooling system that we had problems with from day one and replaced it with a Coleman Heating and Cooling system.

Desert Suns arrived on time or 5 minutes early in every case when we had an appointment for estimate, installation, and call-back to resolve issue. Rob the estimator (and job coordinator in this case) was extremely knowledgable, thorough, responsive and professional. The installers were more of the same, and they worked hard to complete this fairly large job in two days. I've had a number of contractors on the property over a 5 year span, and these guys are among the very few that I would have back. They cleaned up after themselves each day and did not leave things for me to do in order to make the job right. I liked how they used a checklist in the last few hours of the job to ensure everything was done, and done properly. For example, I expected to have to remind them to install a blank-off cover over the old swamp cooler switch box, as it was out of the way and this is the type of thing other guys would forget. Well, this was actually a checklist item so they did not forget. In fact, they didn't forget anything, and made sure we knew how to work the system before they left the job.
As with all big jobs, there are things that crop up in early days after installation that need resolved. Like Rob came back to check on the furnace controller to make sure it was and quot;learningand quot; and responding properly to the loads placed on it by our house . There was an issue with the custom made filter support which we had to call them back to resolve. Again, they were on time, in an out quickly as possible, and completely resolved the issue so there has been no problem since.
This is all written based on my memory of events 10 months ago, and looking back I can remember being very happy with the quality of equipement and work i received for my money. I got 5 or 6 estimates, and Desert Suns was not my cheapest option but they worked to make the price comparable or better than the other and quot;full serviceand quot; heating and air estimates I received. The real value became apparent in the quality of workmanship and service. Based on my impression as a mechanical/electronics technician, I'll include quality of equipment too, but it's only 10 months old at this point (no operational problems at all so far) so the real test will be 20 years from now. Will it still be problem free then? I suspect it will.

As stated above, the technician arrived within a reasonable time. We both knew what the problem was. He took less than 10 minutes to replace the HSI ($26), billed me $79 for service call and $320 for labor and part and left. I got curious about the part and cost and found the OEM part in Amazon for $26. I emailed the company explaining the experience and the excessive charge for labor and part. After 2-3 days without a reply, I submitted a complaint to the BBB. The BBB replied saying that it was beyond their scope to go any further with the complaint and closed it out. The next day I received a call from the company's service manager apologizing for his (most experienced) technician's error in billing and stated that he would send a refund check for the difference in correct billing. Of the $320 charged for 10 minutes worth of labor and a $26 part, I received a check for $121.68! That still leaves a balance of over $198 (plus $79 for service call) for 10 minutes worth of labor and a $26 part! An experienced technician would know that $320 for 10 minutes worth of labor and a $26 part was excess, yet he told me that that was what he is and quot;instructedand quot; to charge from his book of charges. Therefore, the company is aware that these charges are excessive and most consumers will not question them, but I did! If the technician had spent time looking for the problem, I might say OK. But even at $60/hour for the technician's time, 10 minutes = $6+$26 part = $32 max, NOT $320!

I was happy with the unit. I was not happy with the subcontractor that did the plumbing. Desert Suns did make it right. They came out right away when I pointed out the problems. I would use them in the future.
