Price above reflects only the concrete work. Their final quote more than doubled their initial quote and the final number of pilasters was less than estimated for the initial quote. The work that this company performed was poorly managed, took longer than expected, and management accepted no responsibility for their mistakes. They tried to blame us and Barnett Aldon Ironworks for their mistakes. Our initial interaction was to walkdown the property. We went over the fence layout with the mowstrip and layout for the pilasters. Aspen told us that there were many colors to select from; then later told us that based on the small size of our job we only had two colors to pick from. He also told us that they could work in a strip of stone to match the stone work on our front patio; then he spaced it out and forgot to order the material so we did without. During the walkdown, I specifically pointed out where the septic line was at; their guys still managed to hit it; Aspen tried to blame us for not providing drawings. Oh, and when they hit it, I was home at the time and they left without telling me. They also hit both of our sprinkler lines and didn't tell us about it. During the walkdown, I also specifically pointed out the location where a drain line was to be run through the mow strip. That apparently wasn't communicated down to the crew performing the work. Also, they didn't not call the state (as required by law) to have the utilities tagged prior to trenching. I called the state office and had them come out. Fortunately power and gas was not in their line as they would have hit that too! They had to excavate some areas twice for the mow strip becuase they didn't understand the CAD drawings that Barnett Aldon provided to them. Don Best of Barnett Aldon tried to explain it to them, but apparently they don't understand CAD drawings. The drawings looked straight forward to me. And they didn't attempt to call Don and ask questions. Toward the end, their guys would schedule a time to come out and either didn't show up or were very late. I back-charged them for my time. The pilasters overall look good (not great) and one has a concrete film stain on much of the surface. I think the concrete poured to fill the pilaster did not set properly (at least initially). One section of the mow strip they had to rework as they filled in a gap with a piece of wood. Then at the end, their owner told me he was sorry of my perception of their work and basically blamed Barnett Alden for managing the job poorly. Never again will I work with these folks!
