Handyman Service, Roof Cleaning + 2 more
Allstate installed a roof on a home thats now a rental. It appears they chase insurance company paid roof replacements, not work from individual customers from their frequent ads in my HOA newsletter. I needed roof repairs from a solar system being moved and asked them for a quote for over 6 weeks; repeatedly having to follow-up and ask them where the quote was that they promised. Yesterday, they said they refused to do the work. They have wasted my time and I learned too much about their lack of customer service along the way.

The quote process and working with the insurance company started OK.
Once the work started things went downhill fast.
First, despite talking with the sales rep about there being two roofs, and being able to see that standing on the ground, the crew showed up expecting to tear off a single roof. The sales rep was there when the insurance adjustor walked the job, and it's unfathomable that he didn't point that out to the adjustor.
That created delays and extra mess.
Then the crew didn't show up until late afternoon on the second and third days. Allstate's excuse for the crew issues was that it was a new contracted crew.
They never did do a good job of cleanup since they kept trying to clean up at dusk. The tear off crew tossed stuff as far as 30 feet away from the house. We were still picking stuff out of bushes in the middle of the yard over three months after the job was completed.
In the process of reroofing they pulled the exhaust vent out of the top of the water heater. It should have been rather obvious that there was an issue because it was leaning at about a 20 degree angle.
When I called them about the vent someone showed up quickly, possibly on the same day. But he just adjusted the vent on the roof so that it was vertical and never checked inside. I had to call back to have them come out and actually connect everything up inside.
Then they had to file an additional claim to cover the extra cost of the second roof tear off.
They did not caulk between the roof and an aluminum porch cover. They managed to puncture the aluminum porch cover in several places too.
I wasn't expecting much from a roofer that knocked on the door, and they undershot my expectations by a bunch.

The work team finished mid-February. We paid them as asked. We then learned on inspection that the work team left 100s of nails exposed in the roof, which can lead to leaks.
We learned Allstate Roofing appears to have damaged our roof as they walked around. We had contracted to have any damage repaired; we agreed to pay extra. Allstate Roofing not only appears to have damaged our roof; they refused to correct and repair the damage -- although we would have paid, if applicable.
We learned Allstate Roofing damaged our air conditioning unit. They did not tell us; they did not repair the damage. They just left us hanging.
We learned Allstate Roofing damaged both our garage doors. General Manager Jim Horner initially refused to pay for repairs. I had to threaten legal action. We heard nothing after this -- apparently retaliation for demanding Allstate cover the repairs.
We learned Allstate Roofing did "poor quality" work, which led to leaks from the new roof that damaged the inside of our home. Although we have a Five Year Warranty from Allstate Roofing, they refuse to correct the problem; they refuse to assist us with the internal damage. They have simply abandoned us.
Allstate Roofing used long nails in their work, longer than used previously. This damaged our speciality "wine room."
We learned Allstate Roofing did not shingle a major portion of our home, which had been shingled previously. Instead Allstate Roofing used a rolled substance. We would have paid extra, if necessary. We were not asked; we were not told. When we tried to discuss, General Manager Jim Horner refused to assist us. He simply abandoned. us.
Allstate Roofing left hundreds of nail around our property. One Allstate Roofing worker told us they have a very poor quality magnet and thus they do a poor job of picking up the nails. He apologized to us for their inferior work and performance. He asked us not to say anything to General Manager Jim Horner so he wouldn't get fired.
Two Allstate Roofing field managers met with us; they apologized and said they would correct the errors. They returned to the office and we never heard from them again. We assume General Manager Jim Horner told them to write this loss off. They have abandoned us.
General Manager Jim Horner showed up at our home unannounced one afternoon, which surprised my wife. She said he was extremely rude to her; she said he clearly wanted to intimidate her, as he TOLD her she was wrong, nothing was done poorly, and implied she was being unreasonable. After this I had to ask General Manager Jim Horner to deal only with me. My wife was greatly upset by their only encounter.
We were recommended to Allstate Roofing by a friend. He was battling cancer at the time and we wanted to help him out. Unfortunately selecting this company due to our compassion for our friend was a bad decision. We do not recommend Allstate Roofing and instead caution others. We wish we could re-do this work. We would hire anyone except Allstate Roofing and General Manager Jim Horner. We continue to warn others about this highly unprofessional general manager and poor quality business.
I sent numerous faxes to General Manager Jim Horner trying to get remedy. He did nothing. I filed a complaint with our insurance company about the poor quality work, and copied Mr. Regenold of Allstate Roofing. We've heard nothing back from Allstate Roofing in over six months. They've simply run away from their obligations -- even though we have a Five Year Warranty. This apparently means nothing to them. Their professional word is worth zero!
Watch out for Allstate Roofing;
Watch out for General Manager Jim Horner;
Watch out for Team Manager Ken Regenold
They promise but do not deliver!
I am sending a copy of my report to General Manager Jim Horner, via email, as I have nothing to hide. We are giving a complete and honest report of this poor quality service.
