Rodger specializes in glue down solid wood flooring but glue down solid wood flooring is not recommended for a concrete slab, my construction. He had accomplished other types of flooring and was highly recommended. He agreed to prepare my floor and while he was accomplishing that, I would purchase flooring for his installation.
The first day he ground down the high spots and put down a first coat of self leveling compound on about 1/2 the floor. A few days later he put down another first coat on the other half of the floor. Afterwards he requested an interim payment of labor and materials so far and I complied, in good faith, expecting he would return to complete the floor, leveling and flooring installation.
After it solidified I noticed and complained that there were numerous lumps in the floor, that the two coats were at different levels and meeting with about a 1/2" cliff, and two long spots where the leveling compound fell through cracks in the slab leaving wide valleys up to 3/4' deep and 6" wide. He returned to grind down the lumps but insisted the unevenness, mismatches and valleys were a good job. I insisted otherwise. He said I could feather the edges and recommended a material. Having little experience with mortar products my attempts were horrible and I asked then insisted that Roger return and complete the job. Roger has ignored me, he has not responded to me in over a month.
I have continued to attempt to fix the cliffs, valleys, and unevenness, learning by trial and error, and fixing my mistakes. Over the past month, I've noticed cracks appearing in the self leveling compound and a hollow sound when tapped, indicating perhaps the self leveling compound Roger applied is separating from the slab.

I contacted Roger to get an estimate to install the moulding. He came over to give me a no-charge estimate. At that time, he made some good suggestions of how he wanted to properly secure the moulding by attaching primary pieces to the studs, then attaching the moulding to the primary pieces. He worked most of two days to complete the job. With some curved pieces of moulding, and some very curvy areas of wall, he managed to complete some very true lines, and continuous joins. Excellent work done, and very courteous and professional.

Roger Brooks is an outstanding contractor and a true craftsman. Roger was very professional, courteous and very meticulous with a great eye for detail. Roger made sure that the old surfaces were properly prepared before the new surfacing was installed, never cutting corners. He's full of great ideas and constantly looks for ways to improve the overall project. In addition to the flooring, Roger also installed a new window in an existing wall, baseboards throughout the house and stone veneer behind our wood stove. We are very pleased with finish product and highly recommend Above Board Construction.
