He is a charming gentleman of the old school, which means that he is more interested in your satisfaction than his remuneration. If he decides he hasn't done much for you, he'll try not to charge you. What he does charge is extremely reasonable.
The quality of his work is amazing. He does like to talk (it makes life more interesting), so if you are the impatient sort, you may not appreciate him. I have always learned something from talking with him.
