Update 4/13/15:
?Paramus Moving's response suggests I was informed of the need for extra men on the job before the day of the move. That is not true. They showed up that day with extra men and did not inform about the extra costs until move completion. They also dismissed our claim about the manner in which they spoke to us. While Heather was on the phone with Gene, he referred to me as ?OCD?. When Heather was on the phone with Colleen, she spoke in a raised, hostile voice (referring to me) saying ?nothing will make him happy, good luck with your relationship!? and promptly hung up.
"Customer was estimated for 4/men at $170 per hour, but a few days prior to the move he told me that he wanted felt pads put on all the furniture prior to being put in place, which i said we would do. He also informed me that we would be emptying the contents of the garage into the house. (we had previously moved the items to the garage for his girlfriend and we knew that would add significant amount of work for our men) When we told the customer that we wanted to send an extra guy as there was significantly more furniture to be moved than what was originally estimated, Customer said ok, but later said he didn't know he was going to be charged for the additional man and later again told us we didn't give him a choice. I told him, we were trying to accommodate him. Many things change after people get estimated and I try to accommodate the best I can, I never tell them no, but when they add more to the move it is more costly. He changed the whole structure of the move when adding a garage full of furniture (which was a whole apartment) and adding the felt pads, which is time consuming. He seemed to feel this was a miner amount of furniture. All of this adds more time, they are people, not machines and moving is very physical work. Customer called me 2 days later to complain about some damage and the price. I asked him to send me pictures, which he did. There was some minimal damage. (1 scratch on floor, 2 very small scratches on furniture) I asked Customer what was going to make him happy, he said he wanted the difference between the actual bill and estimate. I told him i would meet him in the middle, which i felt was more than adequate for the damage he showed me. but that was not acceptable to him. A few days later his girlfriend called and wanted to pick up a check from me. I told her that Customer did not accept my offer, and requested an insurance form, which I had already mailed him to complete and return to me. She then told me, she wanted to submit directly to the insurance company, I informed her that it doesn't work that way. ( that is an insurance procedure, not mine) So I realized they thought that I should pay them a check AND submit an insurance claim. Had we estimated him with the additional apartment and felt pads we would have estimated 5/men from the start. I had many conversations with Customer and felt I went above and beyond trying to make him happy, but I realized nothing i did could make him happy. There was no yelling at them, there was a discussion that since there were several time consuming phone calls that did not accomplish anything that I would just submit a claim to the insurance company and go from there."
