OK so I used Maltese based on a recommendation from a friend and could not have been more disappointed. The job entailed vermiculite and liner and started in April. They came out in early May to to part of the reno and then I hadn't seen them for weeks. All calls to the office were met with "Ok. I'll leave a message for Bob, the owner, to call you. Guess what, Nothing! Weeks went by and after some exchanges, they finally came out to put down the vermiculite. Then, guess what, nothing, More weeks went by and not returned phone calls. Finally, the liner was installed weeks later. All told, the job that realty should have taken one week, took almost three months from contract. Here's the best part. Ready? I had to bag up all the old liner and haul it to the front driveway because it was sitting in the same spot for months. Then, the office called at the end of the job to request the balance due. I told them the job wasn't complete. I had a mound of garbage sitting in my driveway and they didn't complete one other thing. Finally the owner came by and hauled the garbage away and asked for the check even though there was another part of the job that wasn't complete. I wanted them out of my yard and done with and I gladly gave him the check. Throughout the whole job, their reason for not showing up was the weather but there were plenty of nice days that they didn't show up. My guess is that my $10,000 job wasn't big enough for other that may have been more.

It took twice as long as the stated time to do the job. And again they had other people come and do the job. The people they hired cracked the existing concrete requiring further repair

My experience with them was terrible.  Initially, one of the owner came.  He seems very knowledgeable, but he has subcontractors who seemed not to know anything about pool pipes.  It took a very long time for the people to come in for the pipes.  When they did put the pipes in, they put flexible piping.  After they covered everything up, all the pipes started popping through the dirt.  Everything has to be redone again.

Maltese Pool Service is very good. I have one complaint that has been resolved. They recommended a different company to install my cover. The other company installed it incorrectly. I am very happy with Maltese Pool Service. He went out of his way to find replacement parts for my filter. I ended up spending one hundred dollars instead of one thousand dollars to get my filter fixed. So that is really good. They are very, very nice people. And good at what they do. Steve the service manager knows what he is talking about when it comes to pools. Kim the office manager is good with communication. She will call if something comes up and they need to reschedule. Their price is a little higher. They are worth it. You get good service. They stand by their products. They use high quality products. When they say they are going to come, they come. They are very professional. I will use them in the future.

After many years of thinking about it and periodic urging from my wife and adult children, I finally bit the bullet and decided to have a pool installed in my side yard. We opted for a 16' by 36' in-ground vinyl liner pool after meeting with three pool companies. The first fellow talked a good game but seemed short on attention to details yet eager to close the deal. I had to drag ideas out of him and information on filter systems, heaters, etc. The second company rep was keen on selling me a pre-cast fiberglass pool once he realized I didn't want to shell out for a gunnite pool. Folks that I checked with told me that the fiberglass gizmos are ill suited to a mid-Atlantic climate and were really only designed for use in warmer, sandy climates. Our third candidate was Maltese Pool & Spa. The rep spent a good deal of time with me explaining the vinyl liner system and the quality and features of the filtering and heater equipment they recommend. He also walked the yard, took pictures, and discussed best location for the pool and decking.

About 10 days later we met with Camille at the pool company. They had done a computerized graphic aerial view of our house and proposed pool area and deck. This was a huge help in envisioning what we hoped to achieve. We discussed prices, options, etc. with absolutely no pressure to purchase. We decided on the spot to proceed with Maltese. Bob Maltese came out to do the precise measuring and marking off and he was personally involved throughout the project. Within three weeks the yard was excavated in one day and the installation crew showed up the very next day - - the hottest day of the New Jersey summer! It was amazing to see the swift, skillful progress throughout the day with the vinyl liner actually going in before day's end! Thanks to some large swaths of outdoor carpeting, we were able to use the pool almost immediately. About a month later (just a few weeks ago) after the ground had fully settled, another crew showed up and laid the concrete deck with "Kool Deck" finish (much cooler on the feet than plain concrete, even on the hottest summer day). The entire deck job was completed in two days.

I am pleased indeed with the job that Bob Maltese orchestrated and oversaw. We were kept well informed as work progressed, the various crews were courteous and professional, and there were no hidden charges or financial surprises along the way.

Overall, Bob did an excellent job. He is likeable and trustworthy and he explained all the costs associated with the pool installation right from the beginning. He even warned us the town may ask us to put in a water retention tank (a water holding tank in the groud) for excess run off during heavy rains now that the backyard was going to have a lot of non-porus surface area. I would use his company again.

Nothing went right. Scary workmen, never showed up when they said they would, installed liner with stones underneath and holes in it. Added charges that would obviously be included in a complete re-plumping job. Refused to be responsible for a hole in liner. Workers were filthy, left their lunches all over the yard. Workers fought with each other. Filter hooked up completely wrong and had to be done again. At one point, they broke the gate to our fence to get to the yard, rather than ring the doorbell. Horrible experience. DON"T GO NEAR THESE GUYS.

EXCELLENT. Maltese was recommended from friends who used them for their pools. Although the price is the price (would not negotiate), we got what we paid for - prompt service, courteous communication, and a job well done. We needed a variance and they helped submit the paperwork and went to the hearing with us. Once started, the installation went very quickly. Bob Maltese is very hands on and kept us informed all the way. He always responded any message that we left for him.

UPDATE:  We have been using Maltese to open and close our pool for the past 5 years as well as service a pump problem that was under warranty.  They have continued to provide excellent service, and we will continue to use their service.

The job went well, except for a few hidden costs. The owner and workers were extremely knowledgeable.

They came promptly, identified the problem (which turned out to be minor), and repaired it. They were very clear about the price of the service call and hourly rate. They certainly did not try to take advantage of our total ignorance.
