This was a disaster from the beginning. All went well during the sale of the product, the salesman was professional and knowledgeable. But it fell apart after that.
Problem 1) on the planned installation date, no one showed up. After waiting around for nearly 3 hours on a saturday morning, I called Lowes. They said they called me (they didn't) but the reason they didn't show up was because the Pella door that was delivered to them was inspected that morning and had damage, they needed to re-order it. We wasted half the day sitting around, they were hardly accomodating.
Problem 2) When they eventually showed up the 2nd time, they tried telling me that and quot;haul awayand quot; of the old door was not included and that I had to pay $75. Seriously? After complaining enough, they got the point and took the old door at no cost. But this was not a hassle i needed after their screw up on the original install date/plans.
Problem 3) The installation was unprofessional and incomplete. The guys who showed up (from Preferred Remodeling, a subcontractor of Lowes) didn't include a sweep on the bottom of the entry door and the door (after looking more closely at it) was not plumb. The storm door rubbed the frame, which was further a problem once the summer came around and the humidity picked up. When it gets hot and humid, wood in your home expands, which exaggerated this problem. Our new door wouldn't shut correctly, and still doesn't.
Problem 4) I called Lowes and Preferred, they came out to put a sweep on. The person who came out admitted that the install was poor! I was so tired of dealing with it, I let it go and let him finish putting the sweep on. To fix the storm door issue, he just drilled a giant screw into the frame to push the door frame out. The ironic part of all this is that Lowe's upcharged me for a 'build-out' o add more wood around the door frame. Something about our home being older and newer doors requiring this. I really think this was an erroneous part of the deal.
Problem 5) Nearly a year later, I called Lowe's again because this past spring/summer was so hot, and our door wouldn't shut cleanly, i was sick of the damage happening. I've going back and forth with them for several months, having to spend saturday's at my house waiting for them to show up, or taking days off for them to send Pella reps (which also, never SHOWED UP or called me) and have had preferred out 3 more times.
Problem 6) Got a call from preferred, they were rude to my wife on the phone. That pretty much sealed the deal for us. We're done.
Huge waste of time, extremely frustrated. My wife and I wish we never bothered. Needless to say, we're done shopping at Lowe's, and will never be using them to install anything in my home. They assured us that their subcontractors were good and that they would back up the work, but it's been nothing but a hassle.
