Our interactions with Mum's the Word Florist were unpleasant from beginning to end. My husband was in PA and placed the order online through Merit Florists; that was the last satisfactory interaction. I had been injured and was hours away from my husband in another state, so he wanted flowers delivered to me that day. Mum's, as it turns out was only 4 blocks away from my location, yet attempted delivery late in the day after their posted store hours. When I didn't hear the knock at the door, the delivery person did not call my cell phone (the number was provided when the order was placed and was on the card attached to the flowers). Instead, they left a hangtag on the door. I would not have seen it had a tenant not spoken with the delivery person and alerted me to the tag's existence. The store was apparently closed, so I left a phone message, received no callback, and called again the next morning, during business hours. Once again, there was no answer so I left another message. Nearly an hour later, I received a callback from a woman who did not identify herself by name. She was not all apologetic about the delays, either in delivery or in responding to my inquiries, and stated only that the order would be delivered, "Sometime this afternoon." She would not provide an approximate time, and said that the store closed at 2PM when the website clearly shows a Saturday closing time of 3 PM. I was baffled at her unwillingness to make the delivery immediately, given our close proximity. I reminded her that the flowers were already almost 24 hours old and that we would like to avoid further delay. She said only, "They haven't been sitting out somewhere. They've been in a refrigerator, so I don't see what you're concerned about." By this time, my husband had driven several hours and arrived at my location. He then went personally to pick up the order. He was surprised to find that there were two people in the shop and received no explanation of their inability to deliver the flowers immediately after I called. While the flower arrangement was generally visually pleasing, it was much smaller than my husband had expected, given the $80 plus "delivery" cost. Speaking as a college degreed horticulturist with florist shop experience, I would not have combined crimson carnations with the other pink, white and purple, but I suppose that is a matter of taste. I would caution any Angie's List customers against using Mum's the Word Florist if there are any other choices available in the Wildwood, NJ area. We intend to request a refund of delivery charges.
