I found the company on servicemagic.com and no sooner did I hit submit, than I got a call from Dream House. The sales rep came out with a bunch of info and a complete actual window. He performed various demonstrations with the window to illustrate the energy efficiency and ease of operation/cleaning plus the various security features and what he called an exclusive installation system (no need to shim the windows and fill the gaps around the frames. As other reviews mentioned, their sales tactics are like time-share salesmen...very high-pressure and pushy, but not rude or unprofessional. The guys make commission, so I understand the methods, just not a fan of them. After the first price, when we said it was too expensive, he did the little dog and pony show of calling his "regional marketing manager" and telling us we were in a "special target area" and suddenly could take almost $5000 off the top. We told him we'd have to take a look at our budgeting and see what we could do and would get back to him. He said he couldn't guarantee the price after that night, but we told him if he couldn't give us 24 hours to consider our options the answer was "no." So he called his "manager" again and agreed to give us a day to think it over. Truth be told, I never actually saw him dial the phone, and I don't ever remember it ringing (or vibrating). So the next day, when he called, I told him I couldn't do the price he was asking and I needed a better number. He got off the phone with me, and after five minutes came back with a compromise price which made the deal possible. Two days later, another guy came to the house, very nice, professional and knowledgeable, and did an exact measurement of all the windows and gave us a contract to sign. The sales rep said they could have the windows in 2-3 weeks, but the contract said 3-4. After we mentioned it to the estimator, he change the contract to reflect the 2-3 week time frame. We paid 1/3 up front and waited to hear back. After 2 weeks had passed, and I had not heard from them, I called the office. The person I spoke with said the windows would be in for 3-4 more weeks. I told him my contract said 2-3 and after a little wrangling, he put me on hold. Now, the sales rep told us they make the windows in their own factory, and make them to order so that none are "just sitting around in a warehouse." Well, when the person got back on the phone he said I was "very lucky and he could have my windows the next day." How that works, if they're made to order, is beyond me, but I didn't press him since he mentioned that he didn't want to be in breach of the contract. Two days after that call, the installers arrived 10 minutes ahead of schedule. The two installers made quick work of removing the old windows and all the old, rotted wood that was surrounding them and did any necessary re-framing. They were very careful and clean, didn't even chip the new paint we'd had put on the house the week before (except a little sliver of paint about an inch long, but I was willing to forgive). Poor guys didn't even break for lunch! They left the most annoying window for last, an old bay window in the kitchen that was practically falling out of the house already and just as they got it out of the wall it started to pour down rain! I was expecting them to say they couldn't finish since it was dark already and drenching weather, but they fought through it, brought out bright lights so they could see, and used towels to wipe the rain off the capping so no water would get stuck against the frames and drywall. Once they were done, and it was still pouring, they swept up every little shred of fiberglass insulation and splinter of old wood! They even tried their best to get the paint chips left behind by the painter...picked it out of the mulch by hand when they had to, vaccumed the carpets and sills, and wiped down the windows, walls and counter tops! Then they demonstrated how to work the windows, made sure I was totally happy and, after 8 hours on the job in awful weather, bid us a very nice evening and made their way back to south Jersey (a 2 hour trip from my town). Gotta say, they were great! If you can get past the heavy-handed sales tactics, it's a great deal. Plus my friend used to install windows, and he told me I couldn't get a better window at a better price anywhere. Coupled with a lifetime (every part, screen, glass, vinyl capping and balanceing) warranty, not a lifetime-limited manufacturer-only warranty, it's a home run!
