I took my 2006 Impreza Outback Sport to Wayne Subaru because the cruise control light was permanently on and the engine gauge showed the engine as overheating even though the car itself did not appear to be having an issue. I was told it would cost $3200 to replace the head gasket and that the car would be running great once this was done. Two weeks after the repairs my cruise control light came on again and the engine gauge showed as overheating. I took it back to Wayne Subaru who advised this was a completely new issue and nothing at all to do with the previous complaint with the car. They charged another $500 for these repairs. About three weeks later my car broke down as I drove home from work. I had it towed to Wayne Subaru who said they didn't really know what was wrong but that it would cost at least $1600-$1800 to do any work on it. I asked why I had paid $4000 for a car that was now not running. As soon as I complained, all communication was ended. Wayne Subaru did not want to know me. I spoke with a Sales Person who advised he would pass my concern to the owner, I wrote a letter to the owner and reached out several time by telephone but received nothing in response.
After 6 weeks of no communication I reached out to Subaru Corporate in Cherry Hill, NJ. One of the first pieces of advice they gave was to move my car out of Wayne Subaru and have it taken to Ramsey Subaru. This was great advice as at least Ramsey Subaru were responsive. Ramsey Subaru mechanics checked my car over and said further repairs would be pointless. They said my car had so much work done to the engine that it would never run properly. In the process of having the car towed to various places other mechanics looked at the car and advised I'd been completely screwed by Wayne Subaru.
We're six months on from my complaint and the owner of Wayne Subaru has yet to contact me with any kind of response.
I did contact a lawyer and while that option is not yet dead the cost of raising an action against a dealer is expensive and may prove inadvisable.
Wayne Subaru, like most dealerships, are great when you are paying them money and bringing them more paid work. The second you raise a complaint you are completely dead to them.
I would advise avoiding this place at all costs. They are expensive, have horrific customer service, and treat customers as little more than a payment service. Go to Ramsey Subaru if you need service - it might still be pricey but at least you'll get good service.
You always wonder if you could've gotten a better price, but I was impressed by the overall courtesy and professionalism of the staff at Wayne Subaru, so much so that I've already told a friend considering a new car to go there.
