"Thank you for your review and I am glad you are happy with our service. I apologize if we were running late as sometimes our technicians run into major repairs but I am glad everything worked out and we sincerely appreciate your loyalty with us for these past 5 years."
Technician was professional and courteous.
I asked him how much it was to do the service and was told $112.plus tax
I have been using this company for the past four years since I purchased this home. It was recommended by the previous owners.
To my surprise I received the bill for $196.74. I was misled and this is not the first time.
So be aware if you are going to do business with Morris &Bergen Irrigation.
Pros:
The company responded immediately to my request for winterizing the lines. Thought I'd have to wait a couple weeks for appt, instead they came the following Saturday, EXACTLY when they promised. They had the truck, line, compressor etc. everything they needed.
Cons:
I agree with other reviews questioning the service & tactics concerning inflated fees. The owner was all about himself & the money, I just wasn't happy with the service for several reasons:
1) While they scheduled me quickly, Owner and young apprentice were in an extreme rush. If they spent 15 mins at my property that would have been a lot. They cleared the water out of (4) zones but didn't even wait for the water spray to dissipate in any of the zones. The minute you could hear some minor air the spray barely went to a medium mist they switched zones. Owner handled the interior panel to control zones and spoke to young kid on phone handling the pressure hose. I asked the young guy if they were going to run through a second time and if not to please run it for longer. He said no, it was fine. Maybe it is, maybe it's not. I've watched numerous companies clear my lines & my neighbors lines, NO ONE left that much water in the lines and was in/out in 15 minutes. If I had known they were in that much of a rush, I would have scheduled an appointment later in the season.
2) Owner said he remembered servicing this house a long time ago before in his words " the previous crazy owner" stopped using his service. While talking to me he placed his sticker over a competitor's on my wall and rudely/angrily ripped another sticker off my wall??
3) Owner charged $10-$12 or so (+tax) MORE than his office quoted when I scheduled. Ok, no big deal, I didn't complain and paid it. Just wanted him out of my house and knew I'd go with someone else next year. His last statement upon leaving was cocky and an attempt to get more business. He said something to the tune of, "Looks like you could use some landscaping next year, you'll need me. Give me a call."
No, I don't. Good luck with your business.

After posting this on Angie's list, the general manager called, apologized, sent the techs over to show me what they did, and assured me they would not send me to collections while we sorted this out. I had already mailed in payment. The techs were understanding and also apologized. They seemed genuine and honest. After seeing what was done, I advised the general manager that I would have fixed one myself, but likely would have authorized the other as the repair was more involved. We agreed that I would be given a refund on the amount of the one I would have done myself less $10 for the part and a refund for the winter service as we would not use Morris again because of the hassle this year and last year.
After a few weeks and follow up from the general manager, I got a refund check to my satisfaction.
My interactions with the general manager were constructive and I appreciated his willingness to resolve my concerns in a fair and upright way despite knowing we did not want to use their service again. I give them credit for that and have revised my rating from an 'F' to a 'C.' Too bad the office manager handled our situation poorly...my rating would have been higher despite the challenges.

2nd year in a row of dealing with questionable business practices. If you like being billed extraordinarily high prices for work you do not authorize and have them threaten you with debt collection if you do not pay while in the middle of working to resolve the dispute with them, then Morris and Bergen Irrigation is perfect for you.
After a bad experience last year, I specifically asked my wife NOT to allow Morris to perform any repairs. They were to open up the sprinkler system and that was all. To my wife's surprise, they handed her a bill for $145 to replace two sprinkler heads($70 per sprinkler to screw on a sprinkler - exact same sprinklers can be bought at Home Depot for less than $10) they said were broken AFTER they had reportedly done the work.
So, here is the problem I have with this:
1) they did not ask for authorization to perform this work before doing it
2) they did not provide a cost estimate prior
3) we did not see the reportedly damaged sprinklers and I still don't know which ones he said he replaced
4) repairs made last year are supposed to have a warranty but we have no idea which ones they did last year as well....so I don't know if the ones this year are different than last year
5) after reading another review on Morris, apparently, they can cause damage - so without seeing the sprinklers in question, I don't know if I am being asked to pay for something they broke
When my wife objected, they said she would need to contact the business office to resolve this as it is their policy that all repairs under $250 will be done automatically. I am unaware of any contract we signed that authorizes this. They said they could not leave our house until she signed a statement of work. She felt she had no choice but to sign so they would leave.
When I contacted the office, it took many tries to connect with the manager. He cannot be reached directly...at least the office manager did not provide me with this option. Each attempt, she said she sent him a message to call me. Response time has been terribly slow (days to weeks). After a couple weeks, we spoke and he said the earliest a tech could come out to show me what he did would be late June. At that point, he said we could negotiate on price. That was fine with me until the office manager contacted us and said that we must pay in full now or she will turn this over to debt collectors. She says that a credit would be applied later if it came down to that (in other words, obligating us to use them again). She said that the document her techs required her to sign authorized the work. Again, this was produced AFTER they did the job..the document doesn't say anything about authorizing, approving, accepting or anything that would state we agree wi the charges. My wife's understanding was that this was acknowledging they were there and again, they would not leave unless she signed. Sounds intimidating.
In essence, they take their time to resolve our complaint, threaten to turn us over to debt collectors, and want us to be on the hook to use them again over business practices that might very well violate consumer fraud laws....at a minimum being bad business practices.
It makes my wife feel like she has been taken advantage by them for the 2nd year in row. We gave them a 2nd chance because the manager worked with us last year on a surprise $500 bill. Needless to say we will not ever use them again.
"We are sorry that this misunderstanding even happened and we are happy that we came to a satisfactory conclusion. We hope to earn your business in the future."
"Thank you for a great review. We look forward to continue servicing all of your irrigation needs in the upcoming year!"

They used high power pressure to push the water out of system. It was too much pressure this time, it damage the sprinkler head. The technician didn't have the spare parts, so he asked me to call office. After explained what happened, the respond was : they can send someone to repair, but I need to pay for the damage caused by them. That is ridicules!
Please be warned. It may be ok to use their service if everything goes well. They don't stand behind their job. They are not responsible.
"It is our company policy that if a compressor damages a sprinkler head during a winterization we will replace said sprinkler head. In this particular case the home owner was informed of our company policy. At the time the incident occurred our company representative did not have particular part on the truck. This is common practice as the service techs are winterizing and are instructed to not make repairs. The customer was called several times and had not returned any phone calls. It is only now, one year to the date that the damage was done. We were informed by the customer of his unhappiness only by reviewing this poor review. A phone call and an appointment would have rectified the problem as it is our company protocol that heads damaged by compressors be repaired in the spring."
"Thank you for a great review, . We look forward to servicing all of your irrigation needs in 2013!"
"All of our service techs are required to complete the same vigorous training. All are competent technicians and all techs are instructed to be respectful and professional. That being our company standard and what is expected of all of our service techs or for that matter anyone who works here at Morris & Bergen County Irrigation. We will always give our best effort to service our valued customers. After reading this review more than once to try and best understand it and respond objectively it seems as if the company that installed the drainage damaged the system so badly that it needed to be replaced in certain areas. The quote was for a “New System” not a “Repair.” This disgruntled customer should have called or emailed an owner or manager and he/ she would better understand what needed to be done and more than likely remained a satisfied, loyal customer, similar to our other 8,000."
