"I apologize for the late response as I don't check on here often. Pricing structures vary greatly depending on the job as with most trades. If I recall correctly, when I came out to look at the job, we were originally going to cut some sections of drywall to gain access to the pipe and I quoted to remove and replace drywall. When I arrived, you informed me that the pipe is behind a section of siding. I recalled informing you that the price would be different to redo siding as opposed to drywall and that it would be a bigger job than just removing drywall. I also informed you that your siding would most likely crack from us removing it (due to its current state) and gave you the option of replacing it at that time since it would only be the cost of material (we were removing and resetting it anyway). You declined. You asked me for a price for the job to which I informed you I could not provide an accurate number because I could't see what was behind the siding. The best way I can express that situation is if there is something wrong with your car and you bring it to the mechanic to get a quote, but you tell him he can't open the hood, but you want a price to fix it. Or if you ask to replace the alternator, he gives you a price and the day you bring it in, you say its actually the transmission, but you want it done for the same price as the alternator he quoted. It's simply not fair to assume that, nor would any businesses be operating very long if they adhered to that code of ethics. When we put the siding on and you informed us that it was crooked, we corrected it. It would have been corrected regardless, I'm assuming it was hard to notice that it was crooked when you are up close to it. We shot a laser at it, but the sun was too bright and we couldn't see the laser line. Most trades do not charge by the hour, but rather by the job. If it would have taken me a week to finish your job or 1 hour, the price would have remained the same. I truly believe that if you or I would have retained a siding specialist to remove and reset your siding, you would have paid much more for just the siding portion compared to what I charged for the whole job. I would have brought in my siding contractor and my plumber, but I did not feel like the extra cost to you would have been cost effective. Before I left, you asked me about a warranty and I informed you that if you had any issues, to give me a call. I do mean that and hope that you never have to call about any work that we did. With all the rain we have been having lately and your basement is still dry, I have no doubts that what we did will hold up very well, but in the event that it doesn't, I am a phone call away. I am truly sorry that you were unhappy with our pricing structure, but I hope that you can appreciate it more now that I have explained it a little more in detail. Thank you for your feedback as it will help me improve my process going forward."
