We agreed on the price of $3,200 for labor alone (we bought the paint, top-quality Sherwin-Williams, endorsed by Kurt). Kurt worked alone over a 2-week period. The first week, he worked approximately 6 hours per day, and it began to look like there would be no way that he could finish in the 2 weeks he had estimated. Toward the end of the first week, he began saying that he may need an extra day or more at $300 per day to complete the job. We were alarmed since we had selected him to do the job based upon his $3,200 proposal, and we expressed our concern. He then began working longer days during the second week. He worked a long day on the last day of the 2 weeks, said he was done and asked for his final (1/3) payment. Despite misgivings over the appearance of certain areas he had painted, particularly where he had applied spackle, we paid him and then anticipated/hoped that the flaws would diminish as the paint fully dried and absorbed. He had acknowledged two areas that he could not paint - a tight corner where the trim of 2 doors came close together and in the powder room where the vanity cabinet was close to the wall. We accepted those 2 deficiencies knowing that we could (and did) paint those areas ourselves. We later noticed that he had failed to paint one side of the pocket door to the kitchen and the backside of the door from the living room to the basement.
As the flaws became even more prominent and new flaws were discovered (even having friends and family visiting for the holidays ask and quot;what happened here?and quot;), we decided that we needed to contact Kurt to see what, if anything, he was willing to do to correct these problems. His responses included and quot;the colors that you picked were too darkand quot; (Sherwin-Williams classifies the colors we picked as and quot;warm neutraland quot;), and quot;spackle absorbs paint better on the semi-gloss walls you hadand quot;, and and quot;very little paint left for an extra coat on the kitchen ceilingand quot; (we bought the paint as-needed at his direction and in fact had a full, unopened can of the ceiling paint at the end of the job). He offered to paint second coats on the kitchen and powder room ceilings but stated that and quot;any additional painting will be at full cost.and quot;
His responses left us too uncomfortable to have him back in our home.
I consider myself a perfectionist and we thought Kurt did a great job What else can I say!
