Best Carpenters

We had a very bad experience with the $45,000 remodeling of our kitchen by Best Carpenters. In addition to the very poor workmanship, their installation has cost us thousands of dollars to repair afterwards. Issues include highly damaging water leaks, electrical, sheetrock, cabinet installation and appliance installation (see the attached pictures). Best Carpenters project manager was rarely on site to oversee the work and was not responsive to calls. Water Damages from Best Carpenters Work: When installing the sheetrock in the new kitchen wall in October, 2017, Best Carpenters drilled a hole through the water pipes which then leaked to the three floors below destroying closets, walls and ceilings, as well as causing major mildew issues behind the walls. Repairs for all three floors cost thousands to repair and as of 2019 Best Carpenters has not yet paid for any of the damages they caused. Electrical: Best Carpenters had electrical wires sticking straight out of the newly installed wall without a wall outlet to connect to stove hood fan, dishwasher and refrigerator. This is potentially dangerous and, to our understanding, does not meet electrical code. Half of all electrical outlets and light switches were installed crooked and too deeply into the wall by Best Carpenters - failed 1st city inspection. One newly installed electrical outlet by Best Carpenters has stopped working. Outdoor water faucet installed 3 inches directly above an outdoor electrical outlet by Best Carpenters - water dripping onto the electrical outlet below can result in electrocution. Wall sheetrock and tile installation: The pictures attached show just a few examples from only two walls. One can see the poor quality of Best Carpenters workmanship with sheetrock installation and spackling. The kitchen countertop backsplash tile was bulging and crooked as the new wall was installed crooked by Best Carpenters. Appliance installation: The dishwasher was installed crooked by Best Carpenters. Installers did not know that all dishwashers have adjustable legs to ensure that a dishwasher is installed level. They piled up wood planks and sticks underneath the dishwasher to balance the dishwasher instead and still failed to balance it. Best Carpenters finished the sheetrock wall above the stove fan but forgot to install the fan ducting. The entire wall had to be torn out again.

We hired Best Carpenters to renovate our kitchen (March, 2017), and we were so pleased, we hired them again to renovate two additional bathrooms (July 2017). They did an excellent job on all. The workers were courteous, the office managed any (minimal) issues promptly and to our satisfaction. We are truly loving the results. The projects were completed on time, and within our budget. Lovely kitchen, installed perfectly and professionally. No complaints whatsoever. Teams showed up on time, cleaned up well. Communication with the central office was always promptly answered, any concerns addressed in a timely fashion. We're very pleased.

We hired Best Carpenters from Ikea back in November 2013 thru a recommendation of our neighbor who had Ikea kitchen installed. We loved the work she had done, and when Sergio came to design ours he did an amazing job. Two and a half year later we moved and had to do yet another kitchen and told Ikea we wanted Sergio again. His guys and very good and clean up after each day. When there were any issues i just call Sergio and he was right on top of it within minutes

The point of contact was very polite but unorganized and the crew was courteous and clean.
Due to a family emergency i never met with the project manager and the point of contact was the coordinater and my only contact during the project and that may have been the source of my issues. My project lasted 3 months.
There were many last minute fire drills and I feel the project was never handled properly.  Since I had no project manager the communication was minimal as to the schedule of work and progress, I had to intiate most of the contact. 
At the end of the day the work was completed however the quailty of the workmanship was not worth the hassle and I would not recommned this compnay. I gave quality a fair as some parts of the project were completed well.
As an example of my experience, my last interaction was to have the grout work addressed as there where gaps in the grout. I arranged, a week in advance, for an appointment between 9 and 1, I had an appointment and needed to leave my home by 2 and this was disclosed. At 12:30 i received a phone call asking what color grout was needed. I explained i had the grout inhouse,. At 1:30 the crew showed up with no tools to look at what needed to be done, the crew left around 3:00 and i still have gaps in the grout.

Around May '14, I hired Best Carpenters to redo my kitchen, bathrooms as well some other projects. I decided to hire Best Carpenters after my old contractor (S M Construction & Renovation) burst a pipe in my kitchen and subsequently destroyed the entire first floor of my condo(had to rip out my floors and replace all the walls).
After I fired the old contractor, Oleg from Best Carpenters came to do some estimates on my projects. He took the measurements, asked me some questions and I was provided with a written estimate wthin a couple of days. The estimate was clear and had a line item for everything along with the price for that part of the project. I verbally accepted offer and they gave me a rough start date. Sergio, the owner, came the day they started work and went over the estimate with me. He was very understanding and was great to work with. There were some parts of the estimate I felt I can do myself or didnt need and he took it right off the estimate. The price was very reasonable and for the quality of the work I feel its a great bargain.
The first day was demolition. Each and every one of Sergio's team was professional and courteous. Not all of them spoke perfect English but I had no trouble communicating with them when I needed to. They tried to be as clean as possible, they laid down red paper on all the floor areas and put up plastic sheets to limit the dust from the demolition.
Kitchen: I had them redo my entire kitchen. Including demo everything, laying down new porcelain tiles for floor, installing IKEA cabinets, installing the blacksplash, new granitetop etc. They also designed my entire kitchen. They took care of buying all te necessary cabinets from Ikea and accepted delivery of it. All the cabinets were installed nicely, everything was straight and secure. Tiles were installed nicely. All the new appliances were installed without any issuesThey referred me to a granite reatiler but you can feel free to choose any granite countertop installer. Not sure if there is anything more than I can say, great job all around. 
Master Bath:-Had them convert my tub bathrrom into just a shower. We installed tile from floor to ceiling with a mosiac piece running horizontaly in the middle. Everything was done nicely. We bought all the tiles, mosiac pieces, vanity, etc. They provided all the building materials. They put in two shower boxes as well as a shower seat. Again everything was well done. The tiling work looks great. The tiles are installed straight and they used a subway style pattern. They did a great job in making my old tub bath into just a shower.
Powder Room:Nothing too exciting here. Just some tiling work and replacing my vanity and toliet. Good job overall.
PROS:Excellent quality and workmanship, price is very fair and reasonable, especially consdering the quality of the finished work, workers are all courteous and professional, they took great care in making sure everything was done correctly the first time and trying to keep things as clean as possible. The few times where i asked for extra things (shower boxes, shower seat etcc), they were very accomodating. Projects were completed within the estimated time.
Sean, the sales rep, was very helpful in getting everything setup including getting all the appropriate permits. 
CONS: Not too many cons i can think of. The only thing part i wish they would improve on is there overall communication. A few times I wasnt made aware that they wont be coming that day until late in the day. It would be nice to get a rough idea of whats going on for that week so I can plan to be home if needed. A minor drawback, but nothing that should stop you from working with them.
Bottom Line: They did a teriffic job. Would most certainly hire them again and would highly recommend them. In fact I have one bathroom left that I need to ask them to come back and do sometime in the future.

High quality work done in a professional manner at a reasonable price. Very responsive, More then anything, you can count on them. Highly recommended. We'll be using them again.

They are very responsive, professional and they did excellent detail work. They cleaned up afterwards. I would use them again.

I think they did a good job, but communication was the frequent and frustrating issue.

We picked all the cabinets but they have helped us design and place them based on the dimensions of the kitchen. As for the powder room and the master bathroom, we picked the tiles, vanities, faucets etc. and they have done all the installation. They purchased some of the pieces such as the fan etc. and added them to the overall invoice. At the end of the day, there was only a minor difference between what was estimated and what we ended up paying. They also helped us fix other minor things at the house and also installed couple of shelves which we brought in as an add-on without any charge. They worked clean and were courteous.
Overall, we are very satisfied and definitely consider them for any future re-modeling.

The old kitchen was gutted out, and the company took care of new floors, cabinets, appliances, backsplash, and light fixtures, together with adapting and updating the electrical and gas systems. We chose the "Turn Key Service" that includes purchasing, delivery, and installation of everything. They were clean during the construction, isolating the kitchen from the rest of the apartment with plastic sheets, and covering all the floors with paper. We ran into many delays caused by external factors (from late deliveries from purveyors to bureaucracy and an oven that did not want to work) but eventually we were satisfied with the quality of the work and the responsiveness of the company

Sergio at Best Carpenters designed a new laundry room for us using Ikea Cabinets. We then took the design and priced it out with other carpenters but their price was very competitive and we decided to use them.  They were very prompt and finished the job in two and a half days.  When an issue arose regarding notching out the back of a cabinet for a sewer line clean-out, they returned the next day to correct the problem.  The carpenters  were professional &  courteous throughout the whole process.

Sergio came to me through IKEA. Sergio's responsiveness was a bit slow, however, he is thorough in his responses, and thoughtful (a quality not to be underestimated). He and his crew was a pleasure to work with. His crew would send him pictures of the progress, and also offered great insight into how to make things better (i.e., adding shelves to align with the cabinet door molding, plumming and electrical thoughts as well).
I also asked Sergio to give me a quote for additional work that needed to be done; he got it back to me quickly, with a detailed breakdown of each and every part of the task. All in all, a thorough professional.
The actual installation was timely, efficient, and perfect. I'd definitely use him again!

When sergio came to meet me he was extremely professional.  he explained how everything was going be.  he also gave me pictures of what is what going to look like.  Within 1 day he sent me an estimate and didn't ask for money up front.  I hired him because of his presentation.  I wanted to schedule the work with him up front.  When his gentleman came to install the kitchen I paid him and signed the contract.  His employees modeled who sergio is.  They were respectful, cleaned up after themselves.  They came an extra day because I was using my old cabinets.  They didn't charge me for the extra day and Everything was finished on time.  The overall experience was so positive and professional.

Their work was outstanding - they are professional, they are clean, they are resonable priced and they do beautiful work. I was always comfortable with leaaving them in my homes unattended because I trusted them to do good work,  They alsways followed up with me if I had any questions or changes.

Sergio and company were on time every day, cleaned up every day. Crew always polite and most helpful and fixed a lot of small things. Time estimate to complete the kitchen was on target. the kitchen looks great, no short cuts with their work. Would recommend this crew to anyone for any remolding.

I called or emailed Sergio and he was very responsive in coming over to provide an estimate.  We got the estimate part completed in 2 or 3 days.  But it took about two weeks to finally get an install date confirmed.  The project start slipped by a day; one of his carpenters did not show up. So on the morning of the first install date, I got a call telling they would have to move the start by a day or two. So, once again, I find the initial pre-install stuff and pricing all pretty average.  Nothing particularly notable or special.  But once again the craftsmanship, attentiveness and professionalism was in a league above anyone else I have ever worked with.  These guys are good, very good.  They kept the place so clean. They would vacuum at least once every hour if not more often.  And the guys take an obvious pride in their work. I love the work these guys do.  I will be getting a quote from them soon on a total kitchen renovation as well.  I generally would not like to let out a great secret, but because Angie's List has been so good to me I feel compelled to share.    They have not let me down yet.

At first it was a little bit of a challenge to get them to return our email/tel calls.  But once they did, we locked down a date for a site visit and estimate.  The Estimate came within two days of the first meeting.    The price was ok, not the lowest, not the highest.   SO base don other reviews I read, we decided to go for it with Best Carp.  We let them know about 3 or 4 days after we got the estimate.  Within 10 days they strted ht eproject an dcompelted it in 2.5 days.... 0.5 days over the original estimate.
So all these elements.. price, timing, responsiveness was pretty average.  But the quality, attentiveness, and professionalism is outstanding.  Their work is nothing less than perfect.  And they make every effort to get things right you you are not 100% satisfied.  I am posting this review pretty later.. works was doen in August..posting in December.  Since the August job, I have recommended these guys to many and used them again for a bigger project and will continue to at lease have the quote my projects..

So Sergio was referred to us by IKEA - we checked him out on Angies List and decided to hire him as the contractor in addition to assembling and installing the cabinets.  I emailed him on a Wednesday for a Friday appointment for an estimate and he gave me an appointment without hesitation.  He sent over Cezary, he listened to our wishes gave us his opinion on adding a cabinet and we took it (sooooo glad we did I would have kicked myself if I didn't, it made such a difference aeshtetically) Cezary got the kitchen plans to us very fast - then we were ready to get a plan in place.  I have to admit sometimes it took Sergio a minute to get back to us via email or phone I'm sure he has a nice size customer base BUT he always did respond via email or phone.  So as long as you are not super impatient it's worth the wait - don't count him out - and he was never annoyed or atleast never acted annoyed when ever I emailed or called him, he was always polite, friendly and professional. We worked together finalizing the contract because we added or deleted items that we could do on our own  to try to save some money, he was totally understanding of that and worked with us.  We picked a start date he provided his license and insurance information, we signed a contract, paid the deposit and the remodel began.  He did not come to collect another penny until the entire job was complete.  Even after we had a plan we kept adding jobs to the scope of the contract and with each new request he said "not a problem we can do that" and true to form his amazing team did it and did it well.  The men he employs and subcontracted to (electricians) were a pleasure to work with, true professionals from start to finish.  They arrived on time - gave a full days worth of work and sometimes worked late to finish certain jobs.  They treated me and my home with total respect. They never assummed how I wanted something done - they double checked that it was exactly the way I wanted it to be done.  True craftsmen.  When his part of the project was over and we started ours he worked with our schedule and checked with us to see if we needed more time, we never felt rushed.  The only reason we went a few days past our finish date was because we worked around our work schedule, if they did the entire job they would have finished before the expected end date.  We were totally happy with the end result and have already told him we will work with him with our other home projects without reservation.  We have gotten so many compliments on the kitchen, I already broke it in with a family get together already.

I am glad I asked Sergio to be the general contractor for the job because there is so much coordinating required with various subcontractors, granite people, etc. He took charge and made sure things got done. I was please with his professionalism and the quality of his work. He may not be the cheapest guy but It was worth it. I would use him again in the future.

They were very professional and attentive. They responded will with my concerns as to how I wanted the job completed and styled. I will use them again for similar services in the future.

Overall, we were very satisfied with the work, and Sergio's commitment to excellence.  There was no detail too small or large, that he didn't address.  He totally transformed our kitchen that it could have easily been on the HGTV network.  We are so pleased with his work that we are going to have come back and do more rooms in our house.
