 + -1 moreThe steps done by Firstech were: 1. probe for underground tank; 2. pump out and dispose of remaining oil; 3. uncover the tank; 4. cut off the top of the tank and clean out the residue in the tank; 5. excavate the tank; 6. take soil samples in 4 areas; 7. close up the hole with clean sterile soil. They took care to protect my lawn, front concrete sidewalk, and shrubs. They did not excavate the contaminated soil when the hole was open and store that soil until the test results were confirmed. This resulted in significant added costs to reopen the dig and excavate the contaminated soil in a subsequent operation which ended up costing me an added $7400.
Description of Work: Firstech Environmental was selected to remove an underground heating oil storage tank based upon three estimates, and references provided. We had an opportunity to convert to natural gas from heating oil for our home, and needed the underground storage tank removed. Firstech came in pumped out the remaining oil, and removed the tank. They tested for leakage and discovered that the environmental limit had been exceeded in one of the four soil samples taken. They reported the environmental leak to the NJDEP and closed up the cleared hole with new soil. The cost of the preceeding steps was approx. $1,700. which was reasonable for the scope of the work done. When the test results were confirmed, they notified us that a soil remediation step would need to be done and estimated the cost to be approximately $23,000.
