NJ Kitchens & Baths did an incredible job on my guest bathroom. From the initial consultation to the final inspections, everyone was professional and the entire process went smoothly. The work they did is absolutely beautiful. The attention to every detail ensured the job was done right and to my satisfaction.

I am writing this review because I think that NJ Kitchens and Baths deserves it more than any other contractor that I’ve ever worked with. In all honesty, the moment I spoke to their architect, I felt very comfortable but had so much difficulty pulling the trigger because of all the contractor horror stories out there. Andrew (owner) is the real deal. He runs a highly professional, and more importantly, trustworthy company. He’s the most honest and thoughtful contractor you’ll ever meet. He will ensure that you are fully happy with the process and the end result. The entire team was awesome and made this experience such a breeze. They explained every detail of the process so that there weren’t any surprises along the way. Amazing attention to detail and incredibly responsive. I was pleasantly surprised with the timeline and they really went above and beyond my expectations. Andrew made sure that his team took the extra measure to clean up and keep debris to a minimum so that it wouldn’t impact my asthma. These guys are full service -- from creating the design to following through in making it exactly as it was planned. Everyone worked hard and made my dreams come true. Each of the these wonderful people took the time to explain everything they were doing during the course of the project and were always professional, patient and courteous. Some may think the cost is higher but you get what you pay for. I am thoroughly happy and satisfied with how my bathroom renovation project turned out. I look forward to having them work on my second bathroom (a master bath). I will forever be a devoted customer. And, as much as I didn’t want to write this review for fearing that their clientele would grow to a point where I couldn’t hire them again, I would definitely recommend them to anyone who needs a contractor. There are truly no words to explain the joy I feel today with the completion of the bathroom. I would definitely hire them again and would recommend them without any reservation. Thank you Andrew and please convey my heartfelt thanks to your team.

It went as poorly as any renovation can go. All of the subs had issues. The plumbers turned water on without closing lines causing flood damage. Cabinets were not ordered, ordered incorrectly, and there were other problems. Electrical inspection initially failed due to poor quality of work. Contractor walked off the job due to me citing issues they needed to fix per code but they did not want to fix. Responses to questions took weeks or months instead of days after signing contract. Went through multiple project managers as part of project. It was so bad, I should have done this myself instead of hiring them.
Description of Work: I hired them for a kitchen design and renovation. It involved all new cabinets, appliances, and moving doors and other details.

Response from NJ Kitchens & Baths
This former customer's review was written in under 2 weeks from starting the work, a bit quick on trigger. Some of his points are true. Unfortunately with some jobs there are minor delays. There was miscommunication with the specialty undercabinet lighting and outlets which was our responsibility. During the 3rd week of the project, I, the owner of NJ Kitchens and Baths met with the customer to review the issues and Gerry was removed from managing the project. We covered the remaining details and I not only assured the customer their project would be done in a timely fashion and they would have my complete attention but I also offered to return their deposit if they really were that unhappy. They agreed to continue on and so we did. We had email communication every 1-2 days (evident in our email thread) covering the remaining inspections, insulation, tile selections, drywall, etc. During my management there was never a time they were in the dark or any delays. However they were still unhappy and at times contentious and micromanaging. I truly believe the homeowner wanted to complete the project himself (he performed the demolition and was going to do the trim work and paint) after the rough inspections and drywall were completed. I've been in this business long enough to know that both parties have to be happy with each other and that there are a few customers you will never make happy. That being said I decided it was best for us not to continue working together. I wish it worked out.

We started looking nervously for contractors to quote us and NJ Kitchen and Baths stood out to us in particular. We met John at our first meeting and had a really great feeling about him. The thing that surprised us about him and sold us on doing the project with him and NJ Kitchens and Baths was John’s attention to detail. He really listened to what our needs, wants and challenges were in our space and took the time to think out carefully how to address each of these issues to make the space the very best it could be and to make us happy with the end product. For those that live in an old house that was not designed for today’s lifestyle you will appreciate the efforts and time spent to maximize our space. The design and execution of the project far exceeded our expectations. John designed a kitchen that is not only beautiful to be in but also most importantly completely functional and organized for a family that typically cooks at least three times a day. John sold us on the job and Andrew who is the contractor and owner of the business has sold us on renovating. From the very beginning Andrew addressed and erased any of our fears about hidden costs, poor work completed or unrealistic completion dates. From the beginning to the end our family can state with full honesty and confidence that once we met Andrew and he took over we really felt well taken care of. Andrew’s strengths that we have come to truly appreciate and advocate for when recommending him to other people is that treating well with honesty and integrity is something means a lot to him. Its important to him that the job is done well without short cuts and that all the information that the client needs to know is communicated upfront and honestly so there are no surprises. This is not just reflected in how we runs the job but also in the people that he employs to complete the work for him. Everyone we met and worked with whether they were plumbers, electricians, or craftsmen were stand up honest people who were pleasant, worked hard, and took pride in their work which was refreshing for a change. They were very good to us and in return we tried to be good to them. Renovating and investing large amounts of money into your home is not as easy as the HGTV shows make it look. It can be stressful and Andrew really cares about building a trusting relationship to eliminate the stress. Whatever comes up he addresses professionally and always advocates for his clients which was so unexpected and appreciated. When we did our final walk through of our kitchen Andrew was the person who picked everything apart with a fine tooth comb to make sure it was well and right. For the record his standards were higher then ours! After being hesitant and afraid to renovate the kitchen we can say now with confidence that we would happily renovate again because we know that no matter what work we need or want to have done Andrew and his guys will deliver. He will make sure the work gets done to the best it can and take the time to really listen to what you want. If you’re on the fence about whether or not to renovate because of fear of being taken advantage of you can stop worrying. Call them and get started. It was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made and well worth the money to hire someone trustworthy that could and did deliver beyond our expectations. Thanks again Andrew, John, Carlos, Oscar, Admir, Peter, Hank, Danny, and Migill. We love everything you have done and enjoy it every day. Wishing you the best. The Erman family in Morristown, NJ
Description of Work: Our family had debated for two years whether or not to renovate our kitchen in our house that was built in 1876. As much as we loved our house and its location we were very unsure about whether we should renovate. So many people we had talked to that had done an expensive renovation, which typically involves kitchens and bathrooms, had bad experiences with their contractors. Either the project went over budget, the work was not done well and had to be redone or the contractor had started the project and then disappeared to another project pushing to completion date out quite far beyond the promised date. Naturally we were nervous. After adding up the numbers in the NJ housing market the cost analysis was pretty clear that renovation was a better option for our financial situation.

We had a really small powder room that we wanted to remodel. Since our project was on the smaller side we let NJ Kitchens & Baths know this ahead of time, but they still agreed to send out a contractor. The contractor came to our house the morning of 4/22/17 (a Saturday), took a few quick measurements, and told us we'd receive an estimate the following Monday or Tuesday. When a week went by without hearing anything, I called to follow up and was told they would be getting back to me shortly. Another week went by and I called again. I was told the same thing. That was nearly a month ago, so I think it's safe to say that we've been ghosted (look it up!). My guess is that they never had any intention of providing an estimate once they saw the scope of work and decided to string us along instead of being upfront. This is negligent and shortsighted on so many levels that I don't even know where to begin. All I can say is we would have much preferred a "sorry, but we don't think this will be a good fit for us right now etc., etc." instead of complete silence, while we wasted time and energy trying to follow up. The fact that there's no accountability for any of this is a truly disturbing quality in a professional business. It only takes a few minutes to write an email or make a phone call saying "thanks, but no thanks". Furthermore, it's shortsighted because clients with small projects may eventually have bigger projects a few months down the road. At least we know who we're not going to call when we want to do a larger remodel.

My name is [Member Name Removed] Koutoudis, I am the owner of NJ Kitchens and Baths. I am very disappointed to read that we did not follow through with your estimate visit and will not make excuses. As you wrote, even if we were not interested and/or your project was not a good fit for us, you should have been told the same at the time of the visit or shortly thereafter. I am working on correcting this issue with my sales staff and I apologize on their behalf for their lack of communication. Not that it is of any consolation to you, but I can say we have never left a customer/project in the dark nor unhappy with the end result. I hope your powder room remodel goes smoothly.

Andrew and his team completely remodeled two of our bathrooms, including our master bath. We found the team to be prompt, courteous, responsive to our needs and suggestions, and forthcoming with their experience on how to tackle certain aspects of the project. We are completely satisfied with their “old world” attention to detail and workmanship. We had extensive tile-work patterns to be completed throughout both bathrooms and the workmanship is accurate and beautiful. The master bath was completely re-oriented, changing the rooms layout of sinks and cabinetry 90 degrees, installing fortified floors, a heated floor, a free-standing bathtub and creating a new glassed-in and vented shower enclosure. The project started and finished within our anticipated schedule and completed within our agreed upon budget. Please feel free to contact Andrew and his team without reservation. We would use them again. It was a pleasure to work with them.

I'm very disappointed to be writing an unfavorable review. I liked NJ Kitchens and Baths from the beginning and was really hoping to work with them. I contacted them to receive an estimate to update our small, dated kitchen based on their great reviews. We made an appointment for John to come see the kitchen. Over the weeks leading up to the appointment I was contacted to reschedule twice. This concerned me and I was wary but wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. When John finally came he was very knowledgeable and had great ideas on how to utilize the space. His preliminary design ideas were wonderful. I was very excited. Before he came we were still in the planning phase and getting ideas for the kitchen and had not come up with a firm budget yet as we really didn't know what realistic costs and estimates were. John's initial guesstimate of the cost was very high. Much higher than other estimates we had received. But we were impressed and wanted to see how things would shake out when he sat down and completed a full estimate on paper. We received the initial estimate I would say within a reasonable timeframe. The estimate was essentially just labor and the cost of the flooring. It did not include cabinetry, tile, countertops, etc. The number seemed quite high but we have no idea how to estimate the cost of all of these extras to determine what a realistic all-in number would be. So my husband emailed John giving him the budget we had decided was reasonable to invest into the kitchen. We asked if we could get an idea from John what the cabinetry, etc. might cost so we could figure out how far off the estimate was from our budget or if we were close. We also asked if there was any wiggle room in the estimate provided for labor. John responded saying he would work on the estimate, put together those numbers for us, and would get back to us in a few days. A few days came and went. A week later my husband emailed asking how the updated estimate was coming. John said he would complete it and get it to us by the weekend or Monday the latest (another 2-3 days). Not a problem for us. Monday came and went with no estimate. We spent the rest of the week emailing and calling John to find out how the estimate was going with no response. Radio silence. Two weeks after we requested the updated response my husband finally emailed and said we would need to hear back within 2 days or we would have to move on. John finally emailed back to say not that he had worked on the estimate but that there was no room to adjust it. He did not provide the estimates for what cabinets, countertops, tile, etc. may range as he said he would. What a disappointment. This clearly is not the right match for our kitchen. And not even due to the price- we were willing to pay more to work with them because the design process and their work looks great but because they are so unresponsive. I'm afraid to have an issue come up during the job and not be able to get a hold of anyone for weeks at a time again. It seems to me either this company is doing well and growing quickly but don't have enough staff to accommodate the growth or they are just not interested in working on our kitchen which may also be the case. But either way it would have been nice to hear from them and get answers without having to hunt them down. We wasted weeks. It really is a shame, I would have loved to work with them on our kitchen, we liked John very much, and he had great ideas but he and the company just aren't responsive. Luckily, we have other very patient and responsive contractors willing to work with us that will be a better match.

NJ Kitchens and Baths, Inc. did an outstanding job on my new kitchen and bathroom. My wife was very pleased from start to finish. From the beginning, they met with us at our house to plan and coordinate the project. Their timeline for completion was spot on and within the established budget. Communication was a big key as well. They answered all my questions and constantly kept us appraised on all facets of the construction. I would highly recommend Andrew and his team for any of your home renovations. ThanksMarc A Galati

We are extremely happy about the final results working with NJ Kitchens and Baths. Everything looks great and works just as it's supposed too. Key things to note about working with them: > Starting with the design process, critical before you even begin the job, was an excellent experience. They offer total design services via a very experienced designer who is the equivalent to an architect saving us a lot of money in the process. He also offered us out of the box thinking on how to do the jobs in ways we hadn't even thought about and you think you know what you want but the reality is you really don't and need to be listening to his suggestions and the rational around them. That said, he wasn't overly aggressive about his idea's being the best, just alternatives, and was responsive to our feedback. Again, this will be worth a lot to you as a home owner and the job hasn't even started. Others provided this service but not to the level of detail or sensitivity to our asks in the process. Wasn't even close. Lastly I'd add having used architects in the past on other jobs we've done, their offering was right up there in value add. An architect on these types of jobs can cost you a lot of zero's$. > The job started on time and finished close to the final deadline, with some changes & adds along the line. The GC is sensitive to your asks, understands that things can change in the process and is transparent about what they can and/or can't do, and will offer suggestions and alternative idea's on how to do things when they come up, and if will cost you more $'s & how much. The crew was sensitive to our needs as we were living in the home during the process with small children & dogs as well. All in all - a solid experience, the price in line with our expectations...would highly recommend them. (Chatham NJ resident)

Three weeks went by and we heard nothing. We called and e-mailed John for follow-up, but heard nothing. We contacted the office, left a message with Patricia, who even e-mailed us to let us know our quote would be coming by the end of the week. We never heard back from NJ Kitchen & Baths ever again. There is nothing I consider more unprofessional than a company that wastes everyone's time discussing a project and taking measurements, then never responding or following up. Good thing we didn't hire them for our kitchen reno, I imagine we would experience the same inconsistent communication throughout. I would never contact them again or recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Like another reviewer's experience, we contacted NJ Kitchen & Baths based on their good rating/reviews. Initially they were responsive and it was easy to schedule John to come over to discuss the project. He took measurements, patiently answered all of our questions, gave us lots of ideas, then informed us he would need about 2 weeks to design our plan and give us an estimate.

We have been extremely happy with the results. The owner, Andrew, supervised every aspect of the process and was communicative and professional throughout. John came up with attractive, functional designs that maximized the available space and gave our '80s-era bathrooms a much-needed update. The crew did an excellent job, showing strong craftsmanship and great attention to detail, and all of the recommended vendors, including the painting crew, met the same high standards. We are extremely satisfied customers and give the highest possible recommendation.

These guys were great. We got bids from a number of contractors to renovate the first floor of our 100+ year old home including a new kitchen, moving some walls, addition of a bath and replacing our hardwood flooring. While they came in higher than most, their professionalism and experience gave us confidence that they could handle a job this big. When we met John and Andrew really listed and then asked loads of good questions to get at what we wanted to achieve with this renovation. They provided detailed renderings of a number of options and then we further refined the plan, repeat. This allowed us to get at our needs for this work while they guided us to what was both feasible and within our budget. Once the work started it went fast. Despite hitting a few unexpected bumps in the project, the job was finished within a week or so of the target date. As with most big jobs, some issued arise afterward, and they have very responsive to quickly and efficiently address them. We are extremely pleased with our renovated first floor. Lastly, they were a pleasure to work with and genuinely seemed concerned that we were satisfied every step of the way. Will definitely use them again for our next project.

Andrew and his team did a great job in providing quality work and service. We were very involved in the process, and the team had no problem dealing with us (at least to our faces - lol). If there were any issues we had, Andrew was quick to respond and provide a resolution. We are very happy with our kitchen. We used Andrew's preferred vendors as well as some of our own vendors - any communication that was needed to be made with the vendors was done in a professional manner. I would recommend NJ Kitchen and Baths for a kitchen or bath remodel.

From the start, when John, an architect, came to give us an estimate, we were impressed. He took time to answer all of our questions, sent drawings and diagrams, and gave us advice about purchases. After we agreed to the proposal Andrew, the owner, took over. We made it clear that the bathroom had to be finished by Thanksgiving. They started October 23 and finished November 24, 2015. We designed a complicated pattern for the tile, that required some creativity and real craftsmanship to construct. The crew, led by Carlos and Abner, was excellent and very professional and went the extra mile for us. We will us this group again in the spring for the renovation of our master bath. Very Highly Recommended!

Andrew and his team worked through multiple design changes we made for the master bathroom project after construction had begun. We were extremely pleased with the final product and workmanship. Andrew and his team were professional, courteous, and maintained a clean work area. Andrew helped us with issues we encountered with some of our suppliers during the project, which required Andrew to make extra efforts to resolve these issues. This included chasing after the supplier almost a year after our project was complete to replace a flawed shower door. Andrew got the shower door replaced and installed at no cost to us. We would definitely recommend NJ Kitchens and Baths.

Thank you for taking the time to review NJ Kitchens & Baths. We are happy to hear that you are pleased with not only your project results, but the process involved. In our business, hiccups are bound to happen. But we believe it is how we handle them that matters. We were happy to get the shower door replaced, albeit after chasing the supplier for a year like you mentioned. All part of the job. Enjoy your new space!

We first hired Andrew in 2013 to redo our master bathroom and Darek and his crew were assigned to the job. They did excellent work from start to finish, so when it was time to redo another bathroom we didn't even bother with other quotes, we went straight to Andrew and made sure to have Darek assigned again. What sets Andrew and his team apart from my perspective is their cleanliness and attention to detail. Tarps were laid every morning from the front door all the way to the bathroom and floors were vacuumed every night. Permits and inspections were all seamlessly handled by Andrew. Issues that arose and required additional work were clearly explained and shown to me in person. At the end of the project absolutely every corner and crevice in the bathroom was perfect, no detail was missed. Could not have been a better experience and will certainly use them again for our next project.
Description of Work: Andrew and his team have remodeled two bathrooms for us now down to the studs, the first in 2013 and now second in 2015.

The company did a terrific job. We were provided a timeline of 3-4 weeks at the beginning of the project and NJ K&B was able to complete our bathroom within that time frame, which was particularly important to us since we were expecting our first child within a week or so of completing the project and did not want to still be working through a large remodel like this after delivery. Our house was built in 1923 and the bathroom needed a complete redo, including new plumbing and new electrical. After an initial visit to provide a quote for the scope of work and conversations around what we wanted to do, NJ K&B provided us with a comprehensive shopping list of what we needed to purchase -- specific amounts of tile, types of fixtures, etc -- so that we knew exactly what to purchase and how much. Darek and his crew worked on our bathroom nearly every day (including a Saturday) in order to complete the project on time and were always professional. We are very pleased with the outcome.
Description of Work: We used NJ Kitchens and Baths for a complete renovation of the master bathroom in our 90-year-old home and could not be more pleased with the process and the outcome. Everyone we encountered through NJ Kitchens and Baths was incredibly knowledgeable, extremely helpful, and very patient with our numerous questions. Sharon was a terrific project manager, making sure everything stayed on track, and Darek and his crew were not only highly skilled but also friendly and courteous, taking exceeding care to minimize disruptions to the rest of the house. We would recommend NJ Kitchens and Baths without hesitation and will definitely be calling them again as future projects arise.

What an amazing job! Andrew and John were very responsive to our initial inquiries to have 2 full baths and the 1/2 bath renovated. They took a look at each bathroom and overall space and listened to our requests to have one bathroom expanded and the other two updated. They provided renderings of each bathroom, details of what needed to be done and reviewed them with us to ensure we were clear on the objectives. Once the contracts were signed we were given a list of resources to use for some of the materials and had great success with each one. Once the job began, Carlos managed the team that demolished and built the bathrooms. Sharon was assigned to our account as the Project Manager. She stayed in contact with my Mother throughout the assignment and made periodic visits to ensure the work was being done as designed. Sharon was very instrumental in resolving a color mis-match of the accent tile that we received for the Master Bathroom. Once installed, it really looked amazing in the shower and was used to select the wall color. As part of the renovation, these 1970's bathrooms were brought up to current code with electrical and plumbing. As part of the electrical install, the electrician noticed there were issues with the original box so we had it upgraded....and thank God we did as the old electrical panel turned out to be a fire hazard! The team that Andrew and John used to do the work were very on time, kind, considerate and neat. My Mom was very comfortable working with all of them. The best part is now she has 3 beautiful bathrooms! Everyone that has seen them are amazed at how gorgeous they are. We HIGHLY recommend calling NJ Kitchens & Baths if you want profressional, beautiful work done!
Description of Work: My mother had 2 full bathrooms and a powder room updated. The Master Bath needed to be expanded using space outside of the walk-in closet. In addition, there was a leak in the main bathroom, which formed a hole in the ceiling of the powder room on the 1st floor.

Overall we're very satisfied with the final product and Andrew's foreman Al was awesome - super knowledgeable, offered good design advice with a practical bent, worked weekends to hit deadlines, made sure work was done right and was responsive. Andrew we saw maybe a handful of times throughout the job, which I guess is normal for a GC? He was friendly and we had no issues working with him, but we felt his involvement was limited because he had a lot of other jobs going at the same time and was spread too thin. We were on a very tight timeline due to the impending birth of a child, and the project did not hit the originally agreed-upon date due to various delays, not all of which were under Andrew's control. I believe Al did what he could in good faith to complete the project on time. Andrew's price and general business processes were fair and transparent throughout, as all change orders were documented and there were no misunderstandings about price or scope. As this was our first major renovation, we're glad to have used a GC like Andrew to bring all of the correct trades together and handle the permitting, as well as getting decent discounts with the materials providers (though we found much better prices shopping online than at Ferguson, albeit with more legwork required on our part).

From our first point of contact (John in sales) to project management (Sharon) to the actual work being done (Carlos and team) this was a wonderful experience. They were customer focused and set clear expectations upfront on steps involved in and timing of entire project. They were planful and organized. There was just a slight breakdown in communication toward the end on placement of a light fixture, but that was resolved quickly. They did beautiful work at a reasonable price and delivered against all agreed upon commitments.

NJ Kitchens & Baths was an overall very good home improvement experience for us. From the beginning to the end, the various phases of renovation all proved to be very favorable to us. They first picked up the ceramic floor, which we no longer wanted, and had them install a new original wood floor, which turned out to be very beautiful. They found some construction errors in the original house, and thus they made significant improvements involving support columns and beams. They recommended a highly skilled and very acceptable cabinet maker contractor. They added some highly efficient new windows also in the process, and completed the job with a very neat paint application to all rooms involved. They started doing just the kitchen, but we became so enthralled by their work, that we ended up having them do much more of the house. Their work was very neat, they cleaned up nightly. Anything we asked them to do, they did. In the end, an overall excellent job that we were very pleased with, and a contractor I would not hesitate to recommend to others. Andrew and his team are excellent!

The woman I spoke with was very quick and rude. She asked me a lot of questions that I wasn't able answer, until I had specific paperwork. I wanted her to talk to my adjuster, but she refused. She told me normally no one would come out to look at the job before they started work. They were quoting me 20-30,000 to remodel half of my kitchen. She seemed to loose patience with me, and completely unwilling to work with me.
Description of Work: I called them to ask about getting half of my kitchen remodeled.

Response from NJ Kitchens & Baths
• First of all, we did not do any work for this customer. You’ll understand why if you read below; • The customer contacted us on 4/8 on via Snapfix (Angies List service). She wrote that her kitchen has water damage and to contact her via telephone because she doesn’t have a computer or email……How does she use Angie’s List? • We responded with a phone call on 4/9. We spent approximately 15 minutes on the initial call. • Homeowner said we asked a lot of questions. We asked the homeowner necessary questions to determine the scope of work and if we are a good fit (mini pre-qualification). • When asked we explained upfront that we do not speak with adjusters or work for insurance companies. • Homeowner stated we would not come out to look at the job before starting work. We always visit every job site, create drawings, prepare an estimate and ultimately require a signed contract before starting a job. How can we start otherwise? • We always try to accommodate our customers, we wouldn't be in business if we didn't. However; if our price range is too high for the customer we recognize we would not be a good fit for the work. • Once we provided her with budget costs she told us that it was above her budget, which is fine. At the end of the call she thanked us profusely for the time we had spent with her. • The next day she wrote this negative review, needless to say we were very surprised. We called her the following day to discuss. She asked how did we come across the negative review?????? She finished the conversation asking us how we got her number? We realized that this wasn't going to get resolved so we thanked her for her taking our call.
