Roofing
We had used Jay Welwood for a small project, after seeing him replacing siding on our neighbor's house next door. Ijust walked across the street, talked to Jay and his partner and asked if he could help us finish our pergola. The upper beams wer too heavy for my wife to hold in place while I screwed them in place. Jay and I set up an appointment. He and his partner showed up the next day and did a wonderful job finishing up the pergola at a very reasonable price.
Then came hurricane Sandy...
We lost part of my roof from the high winds. We called Jay to come and have a look. He did on-the-spot repairs the same day. Jay brought our attention to the fact that the rest our shingles had deteriorated since the were contracter grade, 20 year rated and were now almost 25 years old. A lot of the particals on the single surface were missing and the shingles were starting to curl on the bottom edges. Jay suggested that we consider a new roof.
As an engineer I researched the entire suggested procedure/system that he recomended and agreed that it was the best solution for the house.
Jay and his crew stripped the roof down to the plywood and started putting on the new roof system. Watching the weather we saw that heavy rains were expected in three days. Jay and his crew worked until after dark through the weekend to complete the job before the expected downpour Monday. His crew were couteous and professional and did a great job cleaning up all the old roofing and nails.
The roof looks magnificent! We have to say that Jay offered us less expensive options but my wife and I never wanted to worry about the roof again so we chose the optimal solution even though the cost was slightly higher.
A couple of weeks ago we noticed some moisture damage around one of out skylights. We called Jay who promptly came out to check it. We determined that the leak was caused by a bad seal between the the glass and the skylight frame. NOT Jay's problem. However Jay went up on the roof and caulked around the window, fixing the leak. I offered to pay Jay for the repairs but he refused payment. ( I did manage to give him a beer).
I have seen other projects that Jay has done in our neighborhood, (siding and carpentry), and would recommend him in an instant!
