Hello I'm Raymond Bond the owner of Mercer County Chimneys. I have three employees including myself. I try to make it out to every home with the guys unless I'm with another customer . Myself I have over thirty years chimney sweeping. We all wear booties over are boots at every home. We try to educate every customers on their chimneys; things they should address immediately and things that may be able to hold off on. Our service call fee is $300.00 this includes an inspection of all accessible area of the chimney. We will take pictures of the chimney from the roof, including flashing, attic, fireplace and basement. Includes running a camera inside the flue to get a full picture of the entire chimney system. We will send you a full digital report with our pictures with our recommendation to your email address. At the end of the inspection we spend the time to explain each area of the chimney. If there is problems with chimney we give a formal written estimate with ways to address those problems. Fireplace, oil flue, and gas flue sweeps are $300.00 and this is a complete sweeping of the interior flue of the chimney and includes the video scan inspection of the chimney once sweeping is complete. "I apologize that our visual evaluation of your system was not good enough for your insurance company. We do offer a level 2 inspection that would include a more thorough inspection of your system. I am also sorry that you felt I was unprofessional in any way. We discovered that our gas fireplace was somehow leaking water into our basement. James from Mercer Chimney came out in freezing temperatures, inspected both my fireplaces (even though I was only having problems with one), took pictures and explained to me what was going on in a way that I completely understood. A prior contractor had installed the wrong caps on my fireplaces, drilling holes through my custom chase covers and voiding the lifetime warranty. Water was entering as a result.
I had another chimney contractor come out to look at the unit before James who told me the same thing. However, that contractor would not perform the repair unless I paid $350 for a complete inspection which would not be creditable towards any service ultimately performed unless it was a complete fireplace replacement.
James recommended that since both chimneys had the same problem both should be replaced. I didn't want to incur the full cost now since the other chimney wasn't leaking. James discussed options with me and I decided to do the "full" job on the leaking chimney and solely replace the cap on the other unit since this was a safety issue. I waited to write this review to ensure that there were no leaks - one very wet February later, not a drop of water in sight. James is very pleasant and professional. Mercer Chimney is now my contractor of choice for all my chimney needs.
