Between another set of snow storms, we went down to Toms River. Temperature outside was 5 and very windy. Once we found the entrance (don't use their address of Flint; the entrance is on 166), we went inside where it was nice and warm. They were doing good business, so we had to wait about 5 - 6 minutes. Once it was our turn, we went out into the cold, got on a golf cart and were whisked away to the "quarry". We had always talked about getting Uba Tuba for the kitchen until about 5 minutes into viewing their selection. We (rather she) found a slab of Typhoon Bordeau that was to come home. We already knew that, based on the number of square feet, that for every upgrade in price (A, B, C, D, E) we would leave about $300 poorer. D it was.
The next week we went back to PDC and saw the slab, chose where we wanted the cuts, and were done in about 15 minutes. Four days later, the installation crew showed up with the cut slab and set about installing it. I think these guys were fantastic! They secured the dishwasher and undermount sink, and then checked to see if the cooktop (new) would fit the opening and cabinet beneath. Unfortunately, the cabinet needed to be modified. Expecting them to just leave it, I went to get my cutting tools. Five minutes later THEY had the modifications done for me!
After a few minutes cleaning up, they were gone and the wife (and I) had a lovely new countertop.
The worst part of the whole ordeal (other than the freezing temperatures): finding the entrance. The best part: the installation crew. If they get to read the review: I'm going to start looking at You Tube for installation videos! (great guys with a great sense of humor).
They asked for an initial deposit of $1000 after getting rough dimensions from my wife. They would then come to the house and measure the countertops. Once all was ready to be installed we would need to pay another half of the amount due with the remaining amount to be due when it was installed. After the measuring, my wife and I went to the yard to choose our slab and just talk about some aspects of the install over with the company. Up until this point everything seemed ok, but all that has happened is they have taken our money, no work done yet. They were told numerous times that we both work and asked that my wife be called 30 minutes before coming to the house so she could leave work and be there when they arrived. This way, not costing them money by sitting around waiting for us, and so that neither of us would have to take a day off of work. They agreed this was perfectly fine. On the day of the install they showed up at the house and called my wife wondering if someone was home. Luckily my mother-in-law was here that day. They proceed to install the countertops and sink, and then started banging on the door to one of our bedrooms to notify my mother in law they were done. (However she is certain it was to get a rise out of our dogs as they were told that we have large dogs so they would be locked up, the installer said he would bash the dog with a hammer if it came out).
Turns out when my wife gets home that the countertop is CRACKED in two places. The person that answered the phone said that couldn't be the case and that it was a product of manufacturing. My wife insisted that someone come and look at it. This was a Friday afternoon. They said someone would come out maybe Tuesday. When we called to verify on Saturday (the install was on a Friday), and talk to the manager they had no record of our call. They stated they would get someone out on Thursday with verification on Wednesday. NO CALL on Wednesday. When we followed up we were told we would be first on Thursday and that someone would show at 7 am. They showed at 8. The installer immediately realized that there was in fact two cracks. Said he would try and fix it with glue which would require 24 hours to set up, DON'T USE YOUR SINK, and that he would be back on Friday morning. No one showed. When we called, we were told they had no idea what happened and that we weren't on the schedule for the day. 5 minutes of being on hold and finally they tell us someone will come Monday to buff out the glue and check the crack.
They have made the whole process feel like we are inconveinencing them. I paid almost $3000 for a small countertop trying to support local business all to get the run around. If it isn't replaced this week we will be going to small claims court for remediation.
