Dan's Handyman Service

I have lots of LED Low Voltage lighting on my property, run by a 1000W transformer in my basement.  It has a timer that determines when to turn it on/off.  The changing seasons warrant that the "on" time has to keep changing, and I decided that I'd rather just set it to go on at 4pm and have a photocell decide when to turn it on at dusk.  My house has real bricks on the front, so they had to be drilled, conduit inserted, and 120V romex used to attach the photocell to the primary of the transformer.  Dan also included a bypass switch so I can force the lights on even though not called for by the photocell, for example, if some of them need to be tested or replaced.
Overall, Dan did an excellent job during this installation, and the LV lighting now comes on at dusk and goes off at the time I specify.

My wife is partially disabled and she mostly rolls around the house in her wheeled kitchen chair.  She was always getting stuck rolling from the kitchen (tile floor) to the dining room (hardwood) because the threshold was too high, and it caught on a wheel.  I hired Dan to fix this problem.  He assessed the situation, and recommended sanding it down and then refinishing it.  He did a great job of lowering it without having to remove it.  He refinished it with stain and 3 coats of poly and my wife can now roll right into the dining room without getting stuck!!

I'm writing a series of reviews for Dan, since he's so versatile.  This review belongs in the category of Computer Networking.  My wife wanted her computer moved from the 2nd floor to the 1st floor, and it uses a hard-wired Ethernet plug (RJ45).  Dan suited up (Tyvek) and crawled up into my 2nd floor attic (which has TONS of blown-in insulation).  He fished the wire (CAT-5E) down the wall and installed a jack behind my 2nd floor computer.  He then ran the wire across the entire attic, thru a closet, and into the 1st floor attic, then fished it down the wall and installed a second jack behind the new location for my wife's computer.

He did a great job and her computer worked first time in it's new location!

I first contacted Dan to repair my dead hot tub.  He diagnosed the problem as the main board, and also found a dead transformer.  I procured the parts ($359 worth) and he installed them for $100 labor.  While he was here, he also pointed out an issue on the pipe that ran water from my swimming pool to my roof for a solar heater - there was no way to drain it for the winter.  I was very happy with the work he did on the hot tub and that he pointed out other things that could cause me problems.  I asked him if he knew of somebody that could fix the pipe and also a general handyman, and he said "yes, ME"!!  I have since built a trusted relationship with Dan and he comes to my house almost weekly to help me solve home repair issues (I'll review him for those separately - please list this review under Spa Repair).  His prices are fair, he shows up when he says he will, he calls you back, and he can be trusted on his opinions.  Overall, I would recommend Dan highly for all of your hot tub repair and general handyman needs!
