Carl's Fencing Decking & Home Improvements

All work was completed within the time frame agreed upon.
From the initial drawings to the completion of the work it took 4 months.  This was a summer house, so we were not displaced or inconvenienced.  I'd recommend ATCO, Inc. in a minute.

My first contact with Carl's was on a walk in basis to their showroom in Tom's River. I like doing this because I can get a good sense on how they do business.  I sat down with Kevin to explain what I wanted done (with pictures and a little help from google maps) he gave me a ballpark estimate on the fence and the deck. We scheduled an estimate for a few days later (Feb 15th) and Kevin and another associate came out to the house to take measurements.  They called ahead and showed up exactly when they said they would.  The estimate was fair and in line with another estimate I had gotten and less than what I figured the work would cost. He came up with some good ideas on what to do with the deck.  
Satisfied with the estimate and plan we signed the contract, from the outset we were told to expect mid-march which was fine with me. Around the 1st of March we got a call from the Fencing Scheduler asking if Wed the 6th would be a good date, I said that would work but I was hoping to get the deck work completed first to avoid any damage to the newly installed fence.  She told me that she would coordinate with the decking guys and get back to me, sure enough I got a call that same day to see if Monday the 4th would work for me with the fence going in on the 6th.  Good deal!
 On Monday the lumber for the deck arrived about 8am and Jose and his crew showed up at about 8:30, we spent a little time looking at the deck and confirming what I wanted done and to make sure we were on the same page. The 3 guys worked solidly from 9-530 about a 45 minute lunch break. During the day I got a call from the fence people seeing if they could come on the 5th to do the fence. Perfect! 
On Tuesday the fence and deck crews both showed up at about 9:30 and got to work, interestingly they both finished up about 2pm.  The work was top notch and they did a good job cleaning up after the work.  Overall I was very happy with the quality of the work, the guys were all very nice and efficient, the cost was well within the ball park for the work done. They are not the absolute cheapest out there but I will gladly pay a couple hundred bucks extra for quality work done on time.  On budget, On time (actually way early), with excellent work makes me very willing to recommend Carl's for any fence or deck job.  In a few years the patio on the front of my house will need some work, Carl's will be my first call.

The workers arrived early in the morning, began to remove the old fence and posts, they worked steadily in a very organized process. They had a system of taking down a section, loading it and then putting in new posts and fence - then moving on to the next section. The job took most of the working day and I was very satisfied with the new fence and gate which they installed. I also admired the way the workers concentrated on doing an excellent job.

I have been dealing with Carls for many years om several projects, and referring the to many other people whom they also did work for, and THEY ARE THE BEST in every way.

Estimate and actual work completed in a timely fashion.  We were happy with the fence, but 4 monthes later we noted that one of the posts had warped.  The contract does state that there is no warrenty on wood,  but since we chose the more expensive wood per our salesperson's (mike) recommendation, and bc it was only FOUR monthes later, we assumed that in a good faith gesture the post would be replaced free of charge.  WRONG.  We were informed that it would cost us $139.  We refused as we had already spent over a thousand dollars on this fence.  Also, as we had just had another rep from this company out to give us an estimate on a new roof, one would have thought that it would be good business sense to extend this simple courtesy in the hopes of acquiring our business on this much bigger job. WRONG AGAIN.  They wouldn't budge.  Also, as an aside, evenefore the incident with the post, Dominick had never gotten back to us with an estimate on the roof.  In my opinion, anyone can put a fence, it's standing behind your work, and a sense of valuing your good faith customers is what really counts in this competitive market.  We were very disappointed and would neither use this contractor again, nor recommend them to anyone

Great materials and workmanship. Definitley expensive but worth the extra cost as the resuts were perfect.

The person who came to provide the estimate, Mike R, was on time and very professional.  He explained everything to me and gave me advice on the plans.  Before he left my property, he showed me samples and left a written estimate.   I selected Carl's Fencing even though they were about $250 more than the other quote I received because I had friends who had a great experience with Carl's Fencing.  Once I decided to use Carl's, I called them and we scheduled an install date.  They called a few days before the date to confirm.  On the day of the install, two guys came to do the installation and everything went quickly and smoothly.  They took the time to explain that I should be gentle with the  use of the gate for 24 hours.  A couple weeks later, Mike R. called to make sure everything went well.  All in all, everything was great.  (At my previous house, I had a terrible experience with a local fencing company so I know what working with a bad fencing company feels like.  This was the opposite.)

The price was really good. Quality was excellent. They cleaned up. I would hire them again for fencing.

Our fence running around our property was destroyed during Hurricane Sandy. Carl's was the only fence company that showed up when they said they would for an estimate, with the highest level of courtesy, professionalism, and friendliness. Their estimate for the excellent quality fencing and installation was extremely fair. Before we knew it, gas and utility companies were on the job, marking our property in preparation for the job, all handled by Carl's. We're thrilled with the job -- looks beautiful! You won't go wrong with this company.

Arrived on time, on expected date, with all materials. Installed, checked, cleaned site and left. Would reccomend quality of work and responsiveness.

I hadn't gotten the permit in the mail. I went to Manchester Township, they said it was in the mail. The morning when Carl started the fence job, Manchester Township zoning stopped it. After that, he took the money from my credit card for the job anyway. I had no clue until I got my statement in the mail. He didn't even notify me. He never came back, never called me. Whenever I called his office to find out when I would be getting my money back, he was always "away from the office". Carl only cares about Carl. Carl is first and the customer is number 2. He's not who he says he is. I had to go to court and fight him to get my money back. I wouldn't recommend him to anybody.

Mike "Resi" came out and gave me an estimate to but a Fence along the back of my property.  He was very professional in making suggestions and explaining exactly what would be done.  The price he gave was comparable to other estimates, but they still matched a company that was cheaper. The installation team came on time and did the work exactly as expected.  Clean up was spotless, you would have never known they were there.  I would highly recommend Carl's.

After getting about 5 estimates from other fence companies we decided to go with Carls Fencing because of their excellent reviews and reputation. We dealt with John Rankin and he was very courteous and professional. The estimate we received was very fair and we are extremely pleased with the entire process from the initial estimate to the final installation. Everything went without a hitch and the installers did an excellent job. I would highly recommend this company and would definitely use them again.

ATCO was hired by us to replace our roof and do some fascia work.  Mr. Terhune was on time with his appointment with us and was very thorough in his estimate.  On the start date, my husband and I thought that the project would take a few days to complete.  Within a couple hours, the roof was off and by the end of the day - we had a beautiful roof!!!  We could not believe how quick the crew worked, how neat they kept our property, and how conscientous they were to detail and our home.  We were 100% pleased with the job and will definitely call on ATCO again for any future work.

Carl Junior came to my house, suggested colors and styles and offered a pricewithin 2 weeks the fence was up, it looks beautiful.  His team was friendly and easy to work with.Great company to do business with

They were suggested to me by the window company from whom I purchased the windows.  I spent $8800 totally which included the widows and its installation.  The other company paid Atco Inc whatever had to be paid.  They installed the windows fine.  They were on time and they cleaned up the premises fine.  They gave an update of the progress.  They did take longer than expected, partially because of the weather and partially because of my house.  So instead of taking two days, they took four days.  The initial estimate was hiked up a little bit because of the increased time they spent.  I think they were professional and they did a good job.  After the estimate they hiked up the price.  I will use them again in the future if need be.

They did a great job. They were very good and they took their time to do it. They cleaned and didn’t mess up the landscaping when they were installing the fence. They were very considerate. They did the right way because we had a lot of little glitches. They charged me about $2500 for their services. The crew was courteous and they took care of all the little glitches without any problems. That’s going to cost you more like the usual thing from the contractors. Their pricing was competitive since I called several companies. They were on time and punctual. I am going to use their services again.

Initially, the guy came out and he gave me the price. He was willing to give a little bit of discount for the roof for being on the beach with the customers he was dealing with.  I e-mailed him back and forth many times because I wanted Timberline roofing.  I wanted to know what kind of roofing he was using and if it was the products as described in the brochure.  He affirmed that he was using the same as in the brochure. As I was walking out for my doctor’s appointment I find that it was Emco shingles that was getting delivered.  I called him up right away and questioned him why I was getting Emco shingles when I asked for Timberline. I was told that they all have a lifetime warranty and as a matter of fact Emco has a better warranty.  So being in a rush to go to the doctor’s office I believed him.  The next day five guys came, did the repair, and put the new shingles up.  I looked up shingles on line and I realised that Emco does not have a life time warranty like Timberline. Its head line is better than life time only because their pro rating system is bit different.  I specifically wanted something that had a life time warranty. All the e-mails back and forth specially mention Timberline.  I look out at the main roof, I have a side room where the roof is a bit lower and I have a back overhang.  I looked out of my window at the overhang and the shingles had chunks bigger than the size of silver dollars ripped out of the shingles. There were shingles that are torn; there were shingles that are heavily scored.  I go out to the front and looked at the front side roof and saw all the shingles abutting to the house all buckled up.  My neighbour across the street is a commercial roofer when I told him that it does not look right he agreed with me.  So I was not happy with them and I called him.  His supervisor came out and looking from the bottom up and so he did not see the problem. I asked him to come into the house and look from top down and then he could see the problem which he neglected to do. So I took pictures of everything.  After the Soffit guys came and they were absolutely wonderful.  Those two guys did a gorgeous job. They replaced all the soffit around the house; overhang and they put two columns in the front. They did an absolute gorgeous job. It is the same company but they subcontracted to different groups. The roofing guys and the soffit guy did pieces of gutters that ran into the house and down were four sheets. I have a couple of unusual configurations as told by the owner. The gutter guys come and they finish up.  I then go out and look around and everything looks okay.  One guy says that he has replaced some of the elbows that were dirty. That should have been the key then and there.  After they left I am walking down to the vehicle I notice a seam, and a down spout. These were seamless gutters.  What these people did was that they wacked the old stuff up and tacked new stuff up to the bottom of it.    I could not believe it. I was livid. There is nothing much I can do about my shingles on my roof. So I went back to my contract where it states remove and replace all downspouts.  I called the owner Allan up and questioned him why the old downspouts were not removed when the contract clearly says so.  He said that he was going to take a ride by to see how it looks. But when you ride by you cannot see it.  I did not see it when I walked around the house. I did not see it till I was four inches from it. So they actually tried to get away with just tacking a new pipe on to the old pipe.  They then came and replaced it all.  They had to do double work.  I was very disappointed. Basically for the same price I could have gone for the twin and I think that if I had got the Timberline shingles, I would not had problems with the downspouts.  Everything got fixed but the bottom line is that I still don’t have a life time warranty roof.  I just have a 30 year warranty.  He did not even go for a 50 year tile. He went in for a standard 30 year run of the mill tile when I specifically asked for Timberline because it is life time and it is few dollars a bundle difference in price. He even wrote on my contract that he would use materials that come with life time warranty. So as long as I am alive and he is alive he is going to be replacing tiles even though the tiles don’t have life time warranty on it.   He is not very knowledgeable with the products. He is relying on his distributor.  When I called his distributor and told him about reading it on the website and how we three should get on to a three way conversation with my builder, the distributor did not know what to say. So he is not into knowing his products.  Actually the only way I got the roofing guys to come back was I showed Allan the pictures of the damaged shingles.  I don’t care whether you are immigrant or not because most of the time they are good workers.  If you want to do a shady job you don’t do it where the customer can look out and see it, you do it on top of the roof where you cannot see it. So I went to Allan’s and I had a tape recorder with me and the guys who were working at my house were working at a building next to him using Timberline Shingles.   They saw me walking around with the tape-recorded  and I think they got scared because within a half hour the head guy from the job group came down to my house and said that they would fix it right for me. That was a couple of weeks after the morning I went to Allan.   That was the only way I could get the crew down. I guess they got scared. I will never use them in the future.

Overall it wasnt bad, but they say they dont use subcontractors, but they do. Which isnt a bad thing, but they should just be honest about it. The subs that did the roof were good there were a few things i noticed afterward I would have like them to do different, but overall thec roof doesnt leak and the skylights dont either. The siding contractor was great. I was home the whole time they were at my house, so if there was any questions about how I wanted something done, they would ask me before thgey did it. The gutters were done by ATCO themselves, considering thats what the business started as they did a good jobm, one of the gutters probably shoul be pitched a little more, but I dont want any extra holes in the soffit front, so I just left it. The only thing I really wasnt happy about was I had asked them if they could reroof my shed to match the house, which they said was no problem. But when they did the roof they didnt have enough shingles, so they had to come back and do it at a different time. I didnt have a problem with that, but when he told me it was an extra 500 dollars after it was done I felt a little ripped off. It only took them maybe a half hour to do it and sa couple bundles of shingles. I was under the impression that after spending 28,000 on the house he would have just thrown it in. That was the only thing that turned me off.
