I got the very distinct impression from this hospital that they will only treat if you willing to spend whatever it takes.
I took my dog to a different animal hospital. That doctor said they were quite able to treat my dog's infections without finding out what allergy was causing them. It was a combination of ointment for the ear, spray for the stomach and antibiotics. Within 2 months the staph infection on my dog's stomach was cleared up, within 4 months my dog's ear flap was no longer black, flaking or leathery. It was pink again. And within 6 months the hair was growing back. She is also treating his allergies with an antihistamine, same way as you do for people. It was not necessary to treat the allergy like the Red Bank Vet said was needed. The new vet treated the symptoms, saved my dog's life.
Red Bank also doesn't give estimates on treatments that are reasonably accurate. I had another pet that had an infection. I asked what the treatment was going to cost, I was told $60. Since it was my daughter's pet I said go ahead. Then they handed me a bill for over $300. The $60 was the medication only. It didn't include all the extras which were over $240. This happened before too when i asked for an estimate of costs for a different situation. They only gave me the one component on that treatment too.
So when I asked Red Bank how much the allergy treatment was, again it was incomplete as to all the components needed, supplies needed and the cost f the person doing the testing. And since the doctor had no idea which allergies were the likely ones, they didn't know how many tests were needed. And they wouldn't give me an estimate on how much the allergy treatment would cost.
Since I switched to the new vet hospital, I have met 2 other families that left Red Bank.
Things did not go well after that. The eye got much worse with the medications, and required removal. They quoted me an additional $2,500 to remove the eye, then charged me about another $100 for the privilege of the office visit to get the quote.
I had the eye removed by another local Vet for under $1000. 2.5x the going rate is crazy.
They have great facilities, and good doctors overall, but they sure do charge a significant premium for it!
