My dog was suffering from an ear infection and stapf infection.  The doctor suspected allergies.  But since I could not afford the endless allergy testing the doctor was not willing to properly treat these infections.  Over the course of the year my dog's ear flap lost all its hair, turned black, skin flaked and turned leathery. The ear flap looked like it was dying. The stapf infection spread on my dogs stomach that it almost entirely covered his stomach.  I was unaware that the stapf infection could be fatal.  I got fed up with the excuse that the doctor couldn't treat the infections if they didn't know what caused them.  Allergy testing can take forever to figure out what is causing it, if ever. Environmental allergies in this case were not life threatening. I told the doctor I couldn't afford the allergy treatments and the doctor even confirmed that my dog could develop different allergies, just like people.  The doctor again said she couldn't properly treat the infections without knowing what was causing them.
I got the very distinct impression from this hospital that they will only treat if you willing to spend whatever it takes.
I took my dog to a different animal hospital.  That doctor said they were quite able to treat my dog's infections without finding out what allergy was causing them.  It was a combination of ointment for the ear, spray for the stomach and antibiotics.  Within 2 months the staph infection on my dog's stomach was cleared up, within 4 months my dog's ear flap was no longer black, flaking or leathery.  It was pink again. And within 6 months the hair was growing back.  She is also treating his allergies with an antihistamine, same way as you do for people.  It was not necessary to treat the allergy like the Red Bank Vet said was needed.  The new vet treated the symptoms, saved my dog's life.
Red Bank also doesn't give estimates on treatments that are reasonably accurate.  I had another pet that had an infection.  I asked what the treatment was going to cost, I was told $60. Since it was my daughter's pet I said go ahead.  Then they handed me a bill for over $300.  The $60 was the medication only.  It didn't include all the extras which were over $240.  This happened before too when i asked for an estimate of costs for a different situation.  They only gave me the one component on that treatment too.
So when I asked Red Bank how much the allergy treatment was, again it was incomplete as to all the components needed, supplies needed and the cost f the person doing the testing.  And since the doctor had no idea which allergies were the likely ones, they didn't know how many tests were needed.  And they wouldn't give me an estimate on how much the allergy treatment would cost.
Since I switched to the new vet hospital, I have met 2 other families that left Red Bank.

There was no charge. The grade depends on what vet you go to. The last one was an A but you can get another vet. We were trying to go to her regularly but sometimes, she would have another appointment when we needed to go and so, we would have somebody else. Their specialists have been outstanding. They have anything you need though you are going to pay for it. They ophthalmology, neurology, oncology. I have seen all of them and more. You do wait. It is very rare that you have an appointment and you just walk in. They can have an emergency come up or it just takes longer with an animal, and you can argue with that.

We contacted RBVH 2 weeks ago to make a chiropractic appointment, explaining our 4 yr old whippet recently started favoring his left front paw and would sometimes show a slight limp. Because he is an athletic dog, in otherwise excellent health, we wanted to have a chiropractic visit to see what could be done to speed his recovery for a soft tissue injury or possibly a skeletal-muscular misalignment.  On the day of the appointment, 30 minutes before we were to arrive at their office, some really awful attitude administrator from RBVH office called and said she needed more medical history for the consult.  Huh? We previously sent his x-rays and other historical info regards last vet visits by email... But No, this was not going to be nearly enough.   It seems that in order to have a simple chiropractic consult requires that we also have to pay for an additional regular vet. office call and exam as well.  In effect they wanted to bill double for services.  We are infuriated and disgusted by this kind of sleazy manipulation.  This requirement was never mentioned when we made the appointment.   While our neighbors said RBVH was a good vet but very pricey,  I had no idea that RBVH would stoop to such pathetic behavior of calling 30 min. before the appointment to strong arm us into paying for more services than we requested.  This vet is the worst and MOST DEVIOUS we have ever come across. After this experience, we will never go to them, nor will we recommend them to any of our friends...  THEY HAVE DESTROYED OUR TRUST with their bureaucratic and heavy handed policies.

Well, they diagnosed the problem (glaucoma) fast enough - for $300, incl meds.  I thought that a bit expensive, but they are the only specialists in the area.
Things did not go well after that.  The eye got much worse with the medications, and required removal.  They quoted me an additional $2,500 to remove the eye, then charged me about another $100 for the privilege of the office visit to get the quote.
I had the eye removed by another local Vet for under $1000.   2.5x the going rate is crazy.
They have great facilities, and good doctors overall, but they sure do charge a significant premium for it!

Couldn't have gone better. They provided us with daily updates and kept us up to date with his progress. They also spoiled him rotten. His doctor was so down to earth and spent the time to let us know exactly what was going to happen and what to expect when it was over. Can't even imagine the skill it takes to operate on the spine of an 8lb. dog  and get it so right. The Hospital provides a visit with physical therapy after some healing takes place once we had him home. From front desk to the wonderful Dr. and the folks in the Hospital section and physical therapy everything and everyone was kind, gentle and knew their business inside out. Would trust these folks with our pets any day. Our dog is now getting along pretty much like his old self...that's saying something for a little guy who couldn't move his back end in November.

The main thing is that they have a caring staff. They have excellent up to date equipment. They're also responsive and very competent. I actually have a cat in the hospital right now and they've been wonderful.

The care was excellent, the doctor, who was not our regular vet, gave my cat a thorough exam and offered me different options for care. I chose to wait and watch a few more days to see if there was improvement.  I was assured there was no break in the extremity. The doctor then asked me to call him on the following Wednesday to let him know how Smokey was doing. He is fine now. I have taken other pets to this hospital and am very pleased with their care. Everyone is professional and caring. I would not trust anyone else with my pet.

I think they're some of the most knowledgeable probably in the Mid-Atlantic. You hear over and over again how knowledgeable they are. They come from the best universities. They have taught there. There so much there. They have nutritionists to help you and all sorts of things. The other thing is, too, you don't usually get just one doctor come in. You have like the internist, the resident, and techs. You have a lot of people in there. People come from all over the state to go there. In general, the price ends up being expensive depending on what you need.

My experience with them was good. I like their qualifications and their staff. It's just one of the larger clinics in the area that's highly trained.

Outstanding veterinary service. I have been using Red Bank Veterinary for 30 years. My first visit was for my two cats. We also brought our son's hamster and a lizard to them. The past twenty years we have been dog owners and have brought our pure bred dogs to them for all of their medical needs. They are outstanding doctors and very passionate animal lovers. A number of their doctors are IVY league educated, but all have excellent qualifications. We have had a couple of very serious health problems with our animals and the care provided was truly outstanding.

While the outcome was different than that which we hoped for, if someone is ever faced with a similar situation and can afford the treatments, Red Bank Veterinary Hospital is unparalelled.
