Jimmy Hauer, the owner of Woodland Builders, gave us a quote of $3000 to fix our front porch. We paid him $1500 up front. After his workers came and ripped our porch apart, the town pasted a Stop Work order on our house because the men were working without a permit. Long story short, Jimmy Hauer's NJ contractor license had not been renewed in over two years, so he couldn't get a permit to do the job!
We then asked Jimmy to give our $1500 back. He did not refuse. Rather, he kept assuring us that he had just renewed his NJ contractor license and his men would be "right over" to finish the job. This kept up for seven months.
Finally we took Jimmy Hauer/Woodland Builders to small claims court. Even that was a struggle, because he failed to show up in court. He ignored all the certified letters, right up till he received notice that he was in contempt and might go to jail. At that point he finally repaid our $1500.
Needless to say, we will never hire Woodland Builders again for any reason.
Actually, we had used Woodland Builders once in the past, and the work was excellent. But that was when the father, Bruno Hauer, owned the business. Now that the father has retired and his son Jimmy has taken over, it's a whole different business. We found out the hard way.
We have since met other people who had the same type of experience we did: Jimmy Hauer/Woodland Builders took their money, but didn't do the work, turned out not to have a license to do the work, and only refunded the money after a long struggle.
Our advice: Stay away from this outfit!

I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THEM. THEY MADE SURE THAT THE COMPANIES THAT WERE SUB-CONTRACTED OUT DID A GOOD JOB & DIDN'T LEAVE ANYTHING FOR US TO CLEAN. THEY PROVIDED US A QUOTE & STAYED WITHIN THE ESTIMATE. THE WORK WAS COMPLETED ON TIME.
