Piano Tuning
It went very well. I felt he was competent. I was confident in his ability. I'm a flute teacher and expect the piano to be as good as I am, so it must be tuned to pitch. He was aware of that and I'm confident that he met my expectations. I look forward to him coming back next year to consider any adjustments that may also be needed.

Piano Tuning
My previous piano tuner had retired a while ago, and it had been 5 or 6 years since our piano had been tuned. Rick cautioned me when he gave the estimate over the phone, that it might require a couple of tunings to bring it back to true. I'd expected that.
While he was here for the first tuning, I asked him to give me a quote on cleaning/lubricating the action on our piano. As he was compiling that quote, he pointed out that the action seemed good, no slow or sticky keys, so it doesn't really need cleaning yet. However, he discovered a crack in the bass bridge which could be a problem in future, and quoted me what it would cost to repair that. Again, he warned me that the process of unstringing the bridge could cause the old strings to break, and they're very expensive to replace. In the end, we agreed that I would wait on the bass bridge repair until the bass strings start falling out of tune quickly (heralding the crack getting worse), or until a string breaks on its own.
All in all, Rick seemed a very fair-minded and professional piano tuner.
