"Thank you. For your nice review."
The hardwoods did not come out quite so well. According to the subcontractors, Bill didn't order enough wood, so I have several areas in my house where I see a multitude of short pieces. Hardwood seams are supposed to be at least six inches apart, but I have several areas where the seams are 2-3" apart. When Bill gave my quote, he indicated they would use underlayment to level the floor between my tile floor and the cement subfloor, since they didn't want to demo the tile. Instead, they just slapped a threshold over the gap and the drop is noticeable. They didn't bother to tack the carpet where it met the wood floors, so I am constantly tucking carpet back under the thresholds. Additionally, when I paid the subcontractor at the end of the job, he called me from my bank, claiming I had insufficient funds to cover the check. He yelled at me over the phone and was incredibly rude, even when I told him I had enough in my account to cover the check five times. After I spoke to bank representative and cleared up the issue, his check was paid and he owed me a major apology for his sad dearth of professionalism. Of course, the apology was not forthcoming.
Worst of all, my floors started separating within a week of installation. The threshold they slapped over the gap between my tile and cement popped off. Bill, who had been so responsive before the job was complete, was suddenly too busy to pick up the phone. On the few occasions we did get him on the phone, he pawned us off on his subcontractor. After a month of phone calls and two no-shows on the part of the subcontractor, he FINALLY showed up to fix the floors. So far, they appear to be alright, but I'm not holding my breath. I had a handyman come in to finish the wood in the powder room that Bill's guys were supposed to do and he said the wood was done very sloppily.
Moral of the story is that you get what you pay for. Despite the fact that his price was much lower than local competition, I will not be hiring him again and definitely wouldn't recommend him. The aggravation isn't worth it.
"Mr. Monale agreed on a 160.00 settlement which the check was cashed – and the case was settled. A check num 2525. You can’t go back and try to get more money after we both agreed on 160.00 – for his filed this case was settled back on 5/13/11. William S. -Owner"
