He said he would leave at 6:30AM to go to the lumber yard and pick up the materials. He did not arrive at my home until 10:30AM. He cut three pieces of wood for under the stairs. When I saw the way he was attaching them to the existing deck, I was mortified. He had put a 2x12 over a rotted piece of wood and attached it with deck screws. We had originally said the rotted piece would be replaced but he had failed to do it. He then took off the 2x12 and replaced the rotted piece but I still thought his whole approach was suspect. The old stairs had been connected to the supports under the deck. He said, "This is just a bandaid job." I had hired him because he said he would do the job to code. Now he says that the whole deck would have to be replaced and that he was done for the day. Mind you, it was only 2PM. I paid him for the work done and decided to get someone who I could trust off Angie's List.
