After much back and forth about things that should have been a part of completing the job, the job is finally complete except for the final inspection.  We are now in the process of re-negotiating the costs.  I will post the outcome when it is concluded. Now that I know, I would recommend that prior to allowing the contractor to start the job, get an itemized list of items to be completed with the costs for each.
Overall, I do  think the contractor is a bad person, and he is misguided by money regardless of how he leaves the customer's property. Just one week after paying the contractor, the wind blew the drivegate off of the hinges, when I contacted the contractor, he said
that I shorted him money and I should get someone else to fix the driveway gate.  I have a written one year warranty on the contractor's work that he is now refusing to honor.  Never again will I use this contractor and I would not recommend him to anyone either.  I should have consulted Angie's List.  That is a mistake that I will not make again.  If the contractor does not honor his warranty, I will have to take him to court and I am reporting him to the Better Business Bureau.
