Gregory's was recommended to us by a neighbor, so we felt confident based on their positive experience. Upon first meeting (still in wintertime when the snow was melting), my wife showed the problem areas and was informed they were fixable by 2-stage process. They would dig along the outside of the house and also use a special sealant on the wall in 3 areas. We were quoted $750 for what would take 4-6 hours. They had to schedule and reschedule several times due to the weather/temperatures outside. They were poor about communicating with us, leaving us to initiate the phone calls most of the time. Finally, the temperatures improved and we scheduled a date of service. My mother-in-law was here the day of service, when the workers stayed for about 2 hours and seemed rushed.
Several weeks later, we endured a heavy rain storm and found the same 3 spots were still damp with minor leaks (exactly the same as before). My wife called to inform the work did not hold up and we needed someone to come back. We were dismissed for several days until finally receiving a return call. At that time, we were told the problem was probably with the foundation or drainage outside the house. This was never discussed as a possibility when we received an estimate for the work. Rather, they said they could fix the problem and eagerly charged us for the job. Finally, they agreed to send someone to look at the problems and scheduled us for a Friday afternoon between 2 and 4 pm. My wife had to take time off work to be here waiting for them. They never showed. She called at 4:30 to find out if they were running late, but no one answered. We left two messages before they finally returned our call late Saturday evening. They agreed to send someone out on Sunday morning.
Someone did come by on Sunday morning - the same guy who came on day 1. He came without a crew and had no intention of addressing the problem but said he would provide us an and quot;estimateand quot; (for work we already paid for). We showed him the problem areas (same as before). He insinuated my wife was lying about the problem areas identified (she had used a permanent marker way back in January to point out the problems, they were still visible this time). He said the areas we pointed out were and quot;bone dry.and quot; Had he showed up two days before as planned, he would have seen the true issues. Also, he now claimed the SAME problem was not with waterproofing but with the foundation and we should go through our home warranty. He said he couldn't fix it and we should go through the home builder or foundation company. He also vaguely mentioned the possibility of a pipe problem. Throughout the discussion, he was argumentative and extremely defensive. He did not listen to our concerns. We requested a solution or a refund. He said he and quot;made an attemptand quot; to fix the problem but would not guarantee his work. He was not willing to provide a refund (partial or whole) and never proposed a solution until we told him to leave our property when he became more argumentative and rude. For example, he was interrupting us, not willing to listen to our concerns.
We will never do business with Gregory's again and urge others to seriously consider other options before giving these people your money for a job left undone.
**The main problems we identified with Gregory's are as follows:
1. They seldom, if ever, answer the phone when you call. You have to leave a message and hope they call you back in a timely manner. Therefore, it is difficult to get in touch with them.
2. They did not show up during scheduled time and made no effort to alert us. Therefore, my wife wasted a day and missed work.
3. They are willing to take your money knowing the problem may be with some other issue (and not inform you of such until their work doesn't hold up).
4. There seems to be little oversight by management when they send workers to your home.
5. They are not willing to stand by their work. They will and quot;make an attemptand quot; to fix a problem (his words), but do not guarantee they will actually fix it despite payment.
6. Instead of coming back to fix the problem, he came here with no crew only to provide us an additional estimate.
7. They are not professional and are willing to insinuate their customers are lying when they know they are in the wrong. My wife was a paying customer who did not deserve such treatment.
8. Their work is sub-par and involves poor quality materials. We are also dissatisfied with the quality of workers he employs.
We hope Gregory's will consider reevaluating their business practices based on our review and provide better service to those choosing to work with them in the future.
"We are very sorry you were unhappy with the service. Gregory's Waterproofing has been in business for many, many years servicing thousands of satisfied customers. What we did do at your home was not waterproofing. We tried to repair some issues you were having by resealing the joints to the pipe coming in. Waterproofing which consists of French drains around the perimeter of the basements, bleeder holes and pumps are guaranteed for a period of twenty-five years. However, we did not do any of that. We are very busy, so offered to come on a Sunday to evaluate the problem you were having, but our crew does not work on a Sunday. We did not see any water, but were willing to try to make repairs at a later date. We also gave you the advice that your foundation company gives you a lifetime warrantee, since it is a newer home. The phone number is on your wall and it would be in your favor to contact them, as they installed that foundation. I'm not sure if they guarantee the line coming in, but if not we are certainly willing to repair it. As for the phones, we are sorry we cannot answer all the calls that come in everyday as we are on the lines most of the day. However, we always go through voicemails at the end of the day. Again, we are sorry you were dissatisfied."
After the job was completed, the next day it poured rain. I went downstairs to look at the basement and saw water. I was so upset. The owner came out immediately and investigated where the water was coming from. It turned out, a pipe was leaking and had nothing to do with the work he did. Was I ever embarassed!
So far, I have a dry basement and I am delighted.
