Declan did a wonderful job. His repairs were seamless and smooth and the walls in our 100 year old house looked as good as new! He was pleasant, prompt and a highly skilled craftsman.

We needed some bubbling and cracked plaster repaired in a few spots in our dining room, and a ceiling in a bedroom. Declan was awesome, responsive, professional and very pleasant. He did an excellent job fixing the areas in need of repair, worked efficiently, and kept the area very clean. Extremely happy that we found Declan and would definitely use him again in the future.

Amazingly well. I've had such a terrible experience with a contractor that was working with at the time, so I am very wary of hiring people through Angie's List, even if they have stellar reviews. I contacted Declan through Angie's List and made arrangements to have him complete the work. It was a relatively small job so I gave him a description of what needed to be done and he provided a price range for that type of work. He showed up first thing in the morning and called me to let me know that he was starting work. He went over what he was going to do and asked me some questions as to how I wanted the finished work to be. His communication with clients is TOP-NOTCH! He completed the work without making a mess (had the floors recently refinished) and texted to let me know that the work was complete. I arrived home that evening to inspect the work that was done. I was in shock and awe. The work was absolutely perfect. Smooth finished plaster walls as I had requested. This type of work really is a skill and art, and Declan is a master of his craft. Thank you so much Declan for what you have done and for doing it at a reasonable cost.

I am very pleased with the how the walls and ceiling turned out after the veneer plaster. They are perfectly smooth and have a nice texture unlike the sterile look of drywall. I highly recommend Declan and would hire him again. He followed up about a week after the work was completed to make sure that there were no issues. Not only does he do beautiful work but with his friendly, congenial disposition, Declan is a pleasure to work with.

The job turned out better than expected, I have a very old house and the original plaster walls were showing their age, this contractor tightened up loose and cracked areas of the walls and ceilings and made these walls and ceiling look new again. I would choose this type of repair again over doing a complete tear down and installing all new sheet rock, the repairs were also completed ahead of schedule. This contractor also contacted me several weeks later to make sure that I was completely satisfied with the work that was performed.

We own a house that was built in 1890. Declan did all of the preparation, repair, and refinishing work on multiple walls and ceilings throughout our house. Beyond the high level of his craftsmanship, he is highly communicative, always prompt, and keeps his work space extremely clean - which is pretty much unheard of these days. This polite gentleman does amazing work and I highly recommend him!

Declan Mellett, the proprietor of Restoration Plastering LLC, tackled what at first seemed to be an uncomplicated problem. He's experienced in restoring old buildings: my apartment is in a lovely 102 year old historic building in New York City. The plaster ceiling that was damaged was the original.
When we explained the problem to Declan, he felt certain that he could fix this with proper, traditional plastering techniques. He assured me that if his work didn't cure this, he would not charge me. He stripped away all the compromised plastered ceiling, rebuilt it with wire mesh to support the plaster, and remained here during the time it took to apply enough layers of plaster. Weeks later, after the plaster had plenty of time to cure, Declan returned to touch up a small detail and make sure that the work he'd done solved the problem. He also performed some refinement to the molding that he restored.
He wouldn't charge me until he and I were satisfied. He had a long drive from NJ to do this work, but he arrived early in the morning and stayed all day until he was satisfied with the work.
I would say that he is a master at his craft. I would recommend him to anyone who wants quality work done.

Declan did a beautiful job on the walls and I did not recognize my dining room ceiling when he was finished as the ceiling never looked so perfect and smooth. He ran into a problem on the living room ceiling as we thought it was plaster but it really was part thin sheetrock, some plaster areas and the ceiling was painted over with a sort of rubberized paint. He really felt terrible about not being able to help us out with the ceiling (we now have to hire someone to rip out entire ceiling and replace with sheetrock) but it was not his fault. He performed the job by himself as his co-worker was not able to come and help out but he showed when he said he would and completed job in 2 days. He was professional, very neat and cleaned up whatever mess had been created. I would highly recommend him and we plan on hiring him next year when we plan to re-do the bedrooms on the second floor which are also plaster walls.

We originally hired Declan to repair some existing cracks in our dining room walls (house built in 1890s) and to repair the stucco wall on our back porch after we moved a window and a door.
This gentleman is AMAZING. He communicates effectively, shows up on time (every time), and is extremely professional in all aspects. He is highly conscious about keeping his work space clean (inside and out) and followed up with us after each and every job.
He came in last Saturday to apply a final skim coating of stucco to our back porch, matching it to the rest of the house and surpassing our expectations. The finished work is absolutely beautiful! Once again, he showed up exactly on schedule, completed the job, and communicated with us about how to care for the stucco. He also had follow-up communication - because he takes care of business the right way.
I cannot recommend RESTORATION PLASTERING LLC highly enough!

I did a full-gut renovation of my Basking Ridge home, and all of my second floor ceilings follow the different contours of my roof dormers and gables, so I was hesitant to try all the angles and curves myself with sheetrock and compound. Declan sailed through the ceilings at an amazing pace. They are beautiful.
I first came to know Declan about twelve years ago when he did a lot of work in my Jersey City brownstone (circa 1870) --- lots of ceilings, crown moldings, archways, ornate detail throughout 3500 square feet that were in great disrepair. He was one of the big reasons why that grand old home turned out as magnificently as it did.

My first dealings with Declan Mellett of Restoration Plastering was about ten (10) years ago when he resurfaced the 28x18 foot living room ceiling in my 95yr old colonial house. They came in with their buckets, powders and potions and, to my amazement, left my ceiling with a flawless, smooth-as-glass finish!
More recently (about 4 years ago) Declan and crew completely repaired the entire third floor of the house; much of which was in pretty rough shape! Again, the work was done masterfully to my great satisfaction!
Most recently, we had a leak from a second floor bathroom that caused some damage on the lower ceiling. The visible damage (to my eye) was about 18inches in diameter but, when Declan inspected, it turned out to be substantially larger. He postponed the job to secure the necessary material to do it RIGHT. He came back and, again, completed the work perfectly. Once painted, there will be no signs of a repair!
Many painters, drywallers and handymen pass themselves off as "plasterers" THEY ARE NOT. This is a specialized area of craftsmanship. Declan Mellet of Restoration Plastering is the REAL DEAL. He is a professional, courteous gentleman that I would not hesitate to recommend!

The first Project was a four phase project on my personal residence. Declan and his crew delivered amazing results on time every step of the way.
More recently we had to totally renovate an older home as part of an estate sale. This fast paced job was no challenge for Restoration plastering. They came in, after the electricians opened up just about every wall and ceiling in this historical house, and made quick work of getting ready for paint.
I have recommended Restoration Plastering several times over the past few years, and every time they has lived up to my praise.

We purchased our older home, in June 2014. We knew that we would need a new roof, but that repair was required sooner than we'd anticipated. As a result, there had been a leak in the hallway/stairwell area. It must've been leaking for some time, before it was noticeable. There was damage to the ceiling, and the corner wall. Initially we thought we would hire someone to patch the area.
When Declan Mellett came to take a look, he was wiling to do the repair. However, he suggested that we do the entire ceiling. He said it would take a day, and that if it were his home, he would definitely do it. He gave us an estimate, and we agreed on a date/time.
He showed up on time, and set up for the job. It required a bit more preparation, because of the stairwell location. He completed the project, with time to spare. He cleaned up, and left earlier than anticipated.
It is known, that Declan Mellett is the best in the area. He is a consummate professional. He is a master, at his trade, and made it look easy. We are very pleased with the job that was done.

I was given Declan Mellett's name and number by a friend. (Declan had done some wonderful restoration work in his 1912 architecturally significant manor.) He returned my message the same day and came by to give me an estimate on my schedule without hesitation. Although the repair involved a tricky corner at the top of a steep hallway, he said it would be a simple job he could do in one morning, in half the time and for $850 less than a competitor. Declan confirmed our repair day the night before and arrived on time. He took care to lay tarps and seal windows to minimize the spread of old plaster and dust. His young helper was quiet and courteous. The repair took less than 4 hours and was PERFECT! I am thrilled that I could find a master craftsman of Declan's caliber to repair my old home back to it's original glory. Thank you Declan!

Declan showed up, checked out the hole, gave me a very fair estimate, and we agreed on a schedule. Declan showed up as agreed, on a Saturday!, completely sealed off the workspace with plastic sheeting and tarps, restored the lath I had removed, and applied two undercoats and a lime putty finish coat. Using current technology, he was able to do the entire job in just two hours! Then he cleaned up completely and left the premises spotless.
Declan's repair is a perfect match to the surrounding plaster and is undetectable. This is highly professional, top-quality work and, before we paint the interior, we have some area where the keys have broken off vertical walls and plaster is cracked. I'll be calling Declan to make these repairs, as well.
BTW, my repair was fairly brainless. Declan's specialty is restoration/repair of complex plaster work - rosettes, ogees, etc. He is a true craftsman and you'll be thrilled with his work.

The company came out and provided me a written estimate prior to the work being completed. When I was ready to for them to start they came out and completed all the work as desired. Initially they did leave some rooms a bit dusty but after I informed them they came back out to clean up and even fixed one additional hole in the wall. Their final price was lower than the original estimate. They were always on time, worked fast, and even completed the work earlier than originally stated.
