Mike McGarry & Son was recommended by a friend whose mother and a friend of her mother's Mike had done extensive renovations for. This made him a top contender to begin with. In February 2009, Mike came to give me a quote for my job. He was the third contractor I had contacted to solicit a quote. When he provided me with my quote, which was significantly less than the other two, he also provided me with FIVE pages of references. The other two contractors didn't provide me with a single reference. Due to the time it took to get the money for the renovation and time it took to get the building permits where I live, the demolition didn't start until December of 2009. Mike called periodically to check and see how things were going. He did not harass me about when the job would start. He also took the time to meet with the architect and the building departments. On the day the demolition began, Mike had his crew bring the old cabinets and appliances in the kitchen down 3 flights of stairs and load them on a truck for a friend of mine who was taking them. How amazing is that! After the demolition there was another delay (of the permitting kind) which forced a halt to the work until February. Once we got the green light in February 2010 for everything involved, it went amazingly quickly. Mike seems to have a knack for choosing craftsmen that work on his team. Everyone, and I mean the plumber, electrician, drywallers, tileman, floorman, his son Patrick, and Joe his business partner are consummate professionals and strive to make sure the client gets what they want. Mike even served as a design advisor in terms of kitchen layout. He helped me see where the design as requested by me to the designer would have been totally impractical. He did this by actually taking me to the site, cutting 2x4's, setting them up, and gently suggesting/reminding me that what was on paper was not what I said I wanted. If it hadn't been for Mike visually and physically taking me through this, I would not have been able to get furniture in the back of the apartment!!!!!!!! Whenever there was a question from me to Mike or something Mike wanted to go over with me, he always accommodated my working schedule to meet with me. He met me before work, many times at 6:30 p.m. or later, and on so many Saturdays and Sundays that I?m embarrassed to admit it. He responded to all phone calls and emails in a timely manner. He even took calls from my boyfriend!! Mike also helped me to find the vendors I would need for all the finishes and those people were likewise as professional and less costly than other people I received bids for. This was true of the cabinetry, the plumbing fixtures, the AV equipment, the appliances, the countertops, the flooring, and the glass for the shower. Lastly, my apartment is on the top floor of a brownstone. Prior to doing any work, Mike had the crew put protective plastic on the floors and paper on the walls to protect them. There was nev
