Chuck did excellent and we are very pleased with the results. Unlike other contractors who also looked at the job, he took the conservative approach to the project, opting to repair and selectively replace damaged bricks rather than tear down the whole thing and put in masonry blocks that didn't really relate to the overall brick façade of the house. He took pains to integrate replacement bricks with the original ones that were still in good shape, so the contrast was subtle and not glaring . The whole effect looks better than new! Ditto the walkway, where he reused the former bluestone slabs and brick to expand and re-lay the path. Chuck did the work himself, which was especially appreciated. His precision, care, knowledge of older bricks and masonry techniques, and his ability to come up with solid solutions when issues arose illustrated his professionalism. Chuck took his time to make sure the job was done right, and as I said before, we are very pleased with the results. His price was very fair too! We would definitely recommend him and hired him again.

Our front steps were a disaster! Time and the elements had broken down the cement, so the steps just corroded and were not usable. Most companies just wanted to rip out everything (including the railings) and start from scratch---- the quotes for the work were very expensive, and we'd have to use a separate company to come back to install new railings! It seemed a bit overwhelming and way out of our $ range. We called Chuck from Sunset, and we were so impressed with his knowledge, experience, and sincere care about his work and the families he serves. He gave us a fair and honest assessment of the work needed; he told us how he would do it and how long it would take. He showed us how we could save $ by reusing our existing railings, and he would only repair the section of the steps needed repair--- the rest looked decent, so he wouldn't need to tear out everything. He would need to rebuild the front four-step section in the middle of the whole thing, but felt the top and bottom steps were still good. He would make it sturdy, safe, and usable again. The difference in his interpretation of what actually needed to be done saved us thousands of dollars. Chuck was thorough, meticulous in his work, cleaned up his work area daily, was considerate and kind. Our steps were a major challenge, and he figured it out and got the job done! He told us five-eight days ( allowing for drying time, etc) and he was right on time. We are thrilled with the results! Chuck has 30+ years experience in masonry work, and I would recommend Sunset masonry to anyone needed any sort of masonry work done. He's coming back in the Spring when we will need some foundation repair on our garage to be done. Chuck from Sunset Masonry did a great job repairing our old worn out front steps. He responded quickly to my phone message. Chuck came to house twice to give ideas for the project and a fair estimate.He Stayed within estimate of number of days to do work. Chuck was extremely conscientious about his work . Polite, professional and a craftsman. Already recommended Sunset to a family member for patio work and a neighbor for foundation issues. Will definitely use this company again in the future.

Chuck was one of the few contractors who called back in a timely matter. He was very willing to work with us and find a design that we were happy with. He was friendly and polite and kept us up to date on his progress. He did a meticulous job and the result was a beautiful patio! I couldn't be happier. And he left my yard cleaner than he found it! I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Chuck did a great job repairing our front steps - they look brand new! Other masons had told us that the steps were beyond repair, but Chuck was able to complete the job quickly for only $1850. He saved us thousands of dollars. Thanks for your honesty Chuck!

Chuck patiently discussed the details of this project with me several times on the phone before I committed to giving him the job. He always showed up when he said he would, and worked meticulously to repair the steps, instead of just suggesting I just have them entirely replaced at a much greater cost. Job site was left extremely clean once he finished. Chuck's price was also the lowest of the 4 estimates I received.

Chuck did a great job repairing my mother's crumbling front steps. He also raised the concrete landing slab that had settled several inches over the years (his idea), making it much easier for my 91 year old mother to handle the lowest step. She was extremely pleased with the job. Chuck also made some minor repairs to the back steps while he was a the house for a nominal fee.

Chuck provided a very competitive price for the work, understanding that I was not looking for extras.   He completed the work when he said he would, having to fit it in with other work he already had scheduled and changing weather with winter approaching.

I hired Sunset Masonry because he was affiliated with Angies List. Chuck came out to look at the job and provided me a fair price. Chuck punctually started the work as expected and completed the job as expected.
Overall I was happy with his services. The only reason I rated him a B on quality is that the finished product actually had two different shades to the mortar that was used (maybe due to drying or what). It is cosmetic in nature and eventually I will just paint the chimney using concrete paint.

Left 2 messages asking for an estimate on chimney work. Sunset LVM promising to stop by (same town), but never did. Went with another local mason that retuned ALL calls and provided a detailed estimate.

It went well. His pricing as fair and he did not try to take advantage. He did work that was necessary and his workmanship was great.

tIt went great, replaced the steps that were cracked or broken.and needed mortar .mortared the railings in to the brick and patched up the sides of the stoop with mesh and cement.

Chuck is terrific and honest and did everything in a timely manner. We had other companies that said we needed new steps and that the pavers should be replaced but not Chuck...he is honest.

It went well and I was very happy there were no leaks after a hard rain. I had a new roof installed. After a very hard blowing rain the roof leaked again and I called the contractor and he is now looking into the roof ridge vent area because the leak starts only when there are high winds, blowing rain. Chuck was great and I would definitely use him again.

Chuck was excellent. Work was completed as planned and he helped out on the cost cause he knew my budget was tight. The final product looked great

It's a rare day that I can rave about a Mason, but Dave is the real deal. A Mason who balks at doing unnecesary repairs, offering less expensive, yet equally effective options. A professional, punctual, personable Mason who is so good that he has no need to advertise; strictly word-of-mouth from elated customers. His rates are competetive hourly + parts. No inflated in-the-book fixed prices that are the custom of full-page Yellow Page advertisers.
This review is very similar to one I wrote for a Plumber a week ago because both of these men are equally professional with different skills. Only wish that I knew them years ago...

Chuck from Sunset Masonry was extremely professional, knowlegeable and talented. I felt very comfortable having him work in my house. He is prompt, courteous, and neat. Chuck put a lot of time and thought into the pattern of the stones. The end product was amazing! My husband and I could not be happier.
