- Jeff and his team demo'd our existing bathroom down to the studs, then rebuilt everything- plumbing, drywall, electrical, tiling, and painting.
Due to several delays in getting our supplies from other vendors, Jeff was flexible and accomodating!
Our only dissatisfaction was with Jeff's subcontracted plumber who caused an avoidable water leak which Jeff repaired.
Overall, our project required considerably more time to complete than originally anticipated but we are very happy with the final result.
This was an emergency service. Jeff responded immediately, fixed a hole in a ceiling and returned to repaint it. The response time was outstanding, and Jeff's pricing is has been reasonable both times I have used him. Quality of work is A+. Will recommend and be using him again!
So firstly, why did I pick Jeff? I met with 3 contractors, and he was not the cheapest. However, he did take the time to listen to exactly understand what I really dreamed of ( I was redoing my bathroom).
Afterwards, he took time to look around at possibilities based on how my house was built and organized and made really creative and great suggestions - because of his knowledge and experience of building, he was able to see opportunities that I had no idea about.
The result is amazing!
As with all renovation projects, there were some hiccups and delays but Jeff handled it all wonderfully.
He is always prompt to return messages or calls if not immediately available. He makes sure you're 120% happy, and will do everything he can to fix problems if they arise.
He stayed within the price he quoted me, so no surprise there.
Moreover, Jeff and everyone working for him is extremely nice and pleasant to interact with. I had absolutely no issue having them in my house for extended periods of time without being there.
I'm planning on renovating my kitchen next, and I've already asked him to discuss next steps. I do not think there is any better testimony than this!!! I've also warmly recommended him to a friend. I think his strongest quality as a contractor is that he really takes time upfront to listen to what your wishes are and works towards making you as happy as possible. I am very happy indeed with how everything turned out.
Jeff was on site every day and on time. He completed tasks when he said he would and did not nickel and dime us on little changes in scope. Although we did not use his stone mason he was more than willing to work with the contractor we found. In fact when we encountered issues with the new stone mason Jeff was more than willing to solve issues and work through the problem. Most contractors would have walked away.
On Day 1 of the demo we burst a pipe and Jeff took full responsibility for it and wound up refinishing our kitchen floor which was most impacted by the damage. He is clearly concerned with his brand and leaving every job with a satisfied customer.
Jeff is now our go to contractor for all things home related.
After listening to what we wanted to accomplish, Jeff offered a variety of creative suggestions for us to consider ? many of which we chose to use.
With return phone calls, emails, and in-person conversations, Jeff was incredibly responsive to our questions and concerns. Not only did he assure us that he wanted us to be completely happy with the end product, but he followed through ? down to the last detail. His work was neatly done, and he expects that same standard from his sub-contractors. As an example of his neatness, on the day that he had gutted the powder room, when we came home, we were amazed to see that the adjacent rooms were spotless.
Throughout the process, Jeff acted in a completely professional manner. He explained that his prices are
competitive, and he did provide a reasonable estimate for all of the work. Additionally, we could rely on Jeff to
show up when he said he would. The job was completed within the timeframe he had outlined from the outset.
Jeff was truly a pleasure to work with! We strongly and enthusiastically recommend his work!
see above.
Jeff is the only "inside" contractor we have ever used who consistently maintains his workspace so as to ensure that the mess does not encroach on the family space while the work is being done. He is also the only contractor we've ever used who shows up day after day to get the job done and stays in constant communication - if he gets delayed or has to finish another project, you always get a phone call, text, or email - you are never left wondering.
My endorsement is unequivocal - if you have important inside contracting work to be done requiring a visibly and functionally great result, hire Jeff!
True to his word, Jeff didn't charge for the estimate, worked around my busy schedule, and even showed up with his electrician on a Saturday to give me an estimate. Once he started, Jeff was always around even when he had subcontractors performing the work. If he wasn't physically there, he was only a phone call away. Jeff is very responsive to phone calls, and I appreciated that he was there for the initial plumbing, electrical, and building inspections even when he didn't need to wait around in my house all day. He's a very friendly guy who provided me cost-effective options. As a first time homeowner, I can't begin to tell you how happy I am to have found someone who I can trust.
His subcontractors are also awesome. His electrician has become my go-to guy for various electrical questions, and his plumbers went above and beyond my expectations. They even went to pick up a heavy vanity for me that was supposed to already be at the house during their lunchtime! His plumbers also discovered code violations in my house that my home inspector missed, and they fixed those problems on the same day. I have a feeling fixing these problems saved me a ton of money down the road.
Even after he finished the job, Jeff came to fix things for me free of charge on the same day that I called him. I can't believe what a great general contractor he is and his work was perfectly done. I have referred Jeff to a family member who is buying a house and needs a number of renovations, and I will recommend him to my friends and family in NJ looking for a general contractor. Please give Jeff a call - you won't be disappointed!
We were totally happy with Jeff's service, and he will be the first one we call when we are ready to start refinishing our new basement in the near future. I would warn that he may not have the lowest-price estimate among the contractors you call, but it will be reasonable, and any extra expense will be well worth the investment if you have a fine home and are looking for really fine quality work.
Phase 1) Renovate entire home excluding the kitchen and bath (now)
Pull out all of the plaster and lathe walls and ceilings and replace with new sheetrock, repair structural damage, remove and replace and add new electrical wiring/lights/outlets/smoke detectors in the home and bring it to code, insulate the walls and ceilings, add central AC ducting, replace 15 windows, replace all interior and exterior doors, replace all of the trim and moldings, paint the trim, walls and ceilings and repair and refinish the woods floors
Phase 2) Central AC (later)
Phase 3) Kitchen and baths (later)
We interviewed several construction contractors we had met while looking for a home, did walk throughs and received estimates however I was not getting the feeling that these were the right people to do the work. I signed up for Angie?s list and started calling contractors. When I first talked with Jeff Sauerman I knew he was not like the others we had spoken with. Jeff reviewed the home for the Phase 1 Renovation and found things that the others missed. His quoted price came in the middle of all of the quotes we had received and he agreed that he could make our timing. We asked Jeff to do the project and he started on time.
In talking with Jeff we learned that he grew up in Ridgewood/Ho Ho Kus. His work reflects the style and quality levels expected in those areas. Jeff found things in our home that had been changed from original and recommended that we change them back. The results were great. Jeff is an artist, a craftsman as well as a businessman. As an example, the trim and moldings that Jeff recommended and how they would be put together on the windows, doors and hallways combined with the new doors that Jeff helped us pick out transformed the house. The results were beyond what we expected - outstanding work done on schedule and at the quoted price. We had no unexpected scheduling or cost changes.
Jeff does much of the work himself with his crew. Some things like electrical and sheet rock he has contractors do. The contractors Jeff uses are top shelf. They did outstanding work. We passed the Fair Lawn building inspections the first time thru.
We would highly recommend Jeff Sauerman Contracting. We think that this project could not have gone much better than it did. Jeff is a really good guy. He?s interesting to talk with, he?s knowledgeable and he and I had allot in common. My wife and I plan on contracting him again for the remaining work on this home and hopefully other projects in the future.
"It was a pleasure to develop a working relationship with this family. As with many of my clients we were able to create a vision of the finished product that was a result of thier style and my experience working on homes in the area. Now that the project is completed I'm not sure if I should refer to them as my clients or as my friends. Both are true and this is part of the pleasure of my profesion. To meet good people and enhance thier dwelling, increasing the value as an asset and a home. As I look at the reviews on Angie's List and recal the people that I have been fortunate to work for , I can't help but smile. I consistantly am comenting to my team that we are lucky in that all of our customers are nice, pleasant people. I look foward to future projects with these members and all my clients from Angie's List Sincerly , Jeff Sauerman"
When Jeff met me at the house to get the explanation of the services we contemplated so he could draft an estimate, he arrived on time and took detailed notes. When we received his estimate, it was detailed and thoughtful. He had paid attention to the things that were important to us and clearly considered the costs when developing the estimate. Other estimates we received did not have the same level of detail so they didn't give us confidence that the price accurately reflected what it was going to cost. Jeff's estimate was indeed accurate.
Once work began, Jeff was easily reachable for any concerns via cell, text or email. He was enthusiastic about taking my calls and addressing concerns or new/revised requests. He patiently explained the work he was doing or having done and made us feel comfortable about asking him to have work refinished or fixed on the few occasions it was necessary.
Jeff understood how we wanted to approach our projects as well. We wanted to take a practical approach to our renovations and have the work look good, but we didn't want to make unnecessary expenditures either. Jeff never tried to push us to do something we didn't want to get done or to give up on something we decided we wanted, but at the same time, he tactfully advised us of options for addressing issues without incurring unnecessary costs. He probably could have made more money if he advised us differently but I think he wins more business longer term as a result of the way he approaches things.
We were very satisfied with the quality of the work done by Jeff and his team as well as that done by the subcontractors that Jeff selected. There are some additional projects we have had done where Jeff introduced us to specialists to handle the projects and left himself out of it rather than artificially creating more business for himself. I think that is a standup way to do business and a good way to build long term trust.
As a new home owners, there were times where we had an issue and didn't know what to do about it where Jeff would be a very helpful with ideas. For example, we had a pantry closet where the shelves were old, unsightly plywood shelves and we wanted to have new shelves made. I asked Jeff for some ideas, and he suggested getting some inexpensive Elfa shelves from The Container Store that he could install. It was the perfect fit functionally and for our budget and we had never heard of Elfa before.
One thing to keep in mind is that Jeff will inspect the quality of the work, but at the end of the day the home owner needs to pay attention to the details to ensure you address every issue that may come up. I think this is true for any contractor.
Overall, it was a great experience working with Jeff and I look forward to working with him again.
