CONTRACTORS RESOURCE CENTER

We hired Contractors Resource Center (now called Preferred Contractors) through Home Depot's installation center (Home Depot on Tonnelle Ave in North Bergen, NJ) to do a complete bathroom renovation and some minor renovations in our dining room.  They guaranteed the work would be completed in two weeks, including inspections.  We questioned that, since none of the other contractors we took bids from felt comfortable with that timeline.  Preferred said they could do it.  The end date was initially Sept. 20.  On Sept. 19, we were told that the rough inspection wouldn't take place until Sept. 26 AND that they had known that since Sept. 6 (one week prior to work starting).  With no rough inspection, no tile, no grout, no appliances - nothing could be done.  The site sat untouched for days at a time.  They sent us a letter with a new completion date of Sept. 30.  When Oct. 6 rolled around and we still had no shower appliances, no sink, a tile job that looked like a twelve year old had completed it and no work done in the dining AT ALL, we called again to ask about a finish date.  We were told by their very rude receptionist that no confirmation of finish dates could be made.  As of Oct. 14, we had basic appliances in, a marginal amount of work done in the dining room, a leaky bathroom sink (despite multiple reports), a still poor tile job and glued on 2x4's holding up shelving in the closet.  No work was started on the half wall.  At that point, we fired Preferred Contractors.  They then refused to listen to the termination and kept trying to gain access to our home after they ACKNOWLEDGED receipt of the termination.
