Hello Ocean East Homeowners,
James and I wanted to write an email sharing an experience we had recently with an electrical problem we had at our condo. Sometime in June/July, we had our AC unit replaced with a heat exchange system. We used AJ Perri. Their technician said that we were candidates for a new system at the price of $10k. Please read this whole email, as it contains important information.
They came over and installed the new unit. Everything seemed fine until we were leaving for FL and I noticed that I could not shut off the water to the house because AJ Perri had installed the unit too close to the water heater and turning the spigot was not possible. So they came out a second time and moved the unit back. When they moved the unit back, they changed the angle in which the air moves through the unit, so that each time air moved through, it hit against the walls of the unit and would make a ?sonic boom?. We had them come out again to alleviate this somewhat. This was not even a month after the unit had been installed.
James and I were there again in November and we noticed that the unit was shutting off in the middle of the night, as it was tripping the circuit. We called AJ Perri out and they at this point replaced the circuit in the circuit board to a 50 amp circuit.
My parents and I were in Long Branch this past New Years and the unit shut off again in the middle of the night. When we called AJ Perri in, they said that the unit itself has a 40 amp circuit and the circuit breaker box has a 50 amp, so maybe the switch in the circuit box was old and we needed to change out the switch, that I could do it myself if I went to Lowe?s. I was not going to try to fit it myself, as I don?t know enough about electricity.
I called my own electrician, Mark Moretti, and he came over and told me that AJ Perri had installed a unit that uses 40 Amps of power connected to 50 amp circuit in the circuit box, but that the wire leading into the circuit box was ONLY 20 AMPS. The wiring wasn?t even installed correctly leading to the junction box, their installation was CRIMINAL.
Upon closer inspection, the wires in the junction box leading to the new unit were BURNED. Thankfully, we were there to correct the situation when we were.
I contacted AJ Perri and they AGREED that they were negligent, and agreed to refund the amount the electrician charged, roughly $1,100. The money isn?t the worst part, as we all could have lost out had my own electrician not come over and found the problem. All AJ Perri told me to do was replace the circuit MYSELF.
I wanted to share this experience because if any of you are using AJ Perri, I would advise against it. True, you get different service people each time, but whomever they sent out were obviously not qualified.
If you ever have any electrical issues, please be sure to call Mark Moretti. I have used him on multiple occasions and he ALWAYS answers his phone. Of the many times I have used him, he shows up THE SAME DAY, he knows his stuff and his prices are very reasonable. He also found a way to rewire the circuit from the unit to the circuit box without putting any holes in the walls and the holes that he had to make in the closets, he patched himself. I found him on Angie?s List and he by far lives up to his reputation on there. He said that anytime I need a contractor, plumber, handyman, that he has lots of contacts that are experts in their fields and work with the same philosophy.
Here is his contact information:

We all owe Mark some gratitude, as if a fire started in our home, it could have spread to additional units.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I have attached photos of the burned wires from the AJ Perri installation.
Hope you are all well,
The overall job went very well. Mark Moretti's lighting suggestion were concrete and not over the top.
The lighting is just perfect.
