Far Hills DB

After the first week, it was clear that Far Hills DB/TJC Homes cut every corner possible and beat their subs in price so there's no way you can get any quality work done. 1 ? After diging a hole for the addition, the inspector came and stated that the site needed to be surrounded by a fence. Mike Redo, GC manager, provided me with the phone number of the company who would be able to provide a fence within 2 weeks and said the fence was not his problem. Far Hills DB was responsible for the addition. It had to be installed that day as the inspector was coming the next day. Mike decided to leave and go to another job without trying to provide any solution. 2 ? The mason dug holes for the lolly columns in the wrong place and erected a wall of cinder block a few inches in the wrong direction so it would fail inspection. After returning to redig the holes for lolly columns, left the concrete outside the house for 3 months. 3 ? The subs hired to take down a chimney did not cover the hole well. 2 days later the newly installed sheetrock ceiling and insulation ended up getting soaked and falling. 4 ? The framers used 2X6 instead of 2X8 for roof rafters and tried to use ½ plywood instead of ¾ as roof sheating. The architectural plans were on site and were clear on the materials to be used. The framers said that this was the materials provided by Far Hills DB. Mike Redo tried to say that this was permissible by code in other towns, but the framers stated that they never use those materials for roofs as they are not per code. 5 ? The plumbers placed the plumbing valves coming out of the floor and not inside the walls. When questioned as to why, Mike Redo?s response was ?That?s the way it is.? After stating that I wanted the fixtures inside the walls, the answer was ?too bad. Hire cabinet makers who will make custom cabinets for the 3 bathrooms". 6 ? His high school friend from Bell Heating has the most incompetent duo run the PEX for the heating and setup air conditioning. Because they had more lucrative jobs, they took those and caused a 2 month delay n the project. Jeff, the owner of Bell, provided manual dial thermostats to control a Weil McLain boiler, 2 zone, and a Carrier variable speed A/C. Since those did not work, he installed Honeywell that do not provide the control for the variable speed air handler. When called numerous times to balance the system correctly, he stopped returning calls as he was fully paid already. He did not show up for 2 scheduled appointments, even after they were confirmed. 7 ? Sheetrock guys wrapped sheetrock and wonder board on walls they knew were not straight, as they were looking at their next job prior to even entering this one. 8 ? Prices that were given on most additional items were 2X of what could?ve been gotten if hired the subs yourself. 9 - Numerous windows were not installed correctly and some of the frames started to show signs of buckling within 2 months of installation. Mike blamed the buckling on the spray foam, which , per Pella documentation, was to use. When Pella rep showed up, he confirmed that the installed did not follow instructions for window installation. Mike Redo couldn?t keep track if he was working a sub on a 5th job, or 7 years or 12 years. Tim Jones came in twice during the 7 month period, during the first consult and for 10 minutes during the second, and then did not want to deal with the customer as he left all of the work to Mike Redo, an overworked ?manager? who seems to hate his job. If it wasn?t for me hiring an individual to be there daily, the work done would start falling apart as soon as the last payment was made.
