Hilberg Contracting and Handyman Services

Kevin and AJ were both wonderful to work with and the tile installation went flawlessly and looks amazing. I tend to worry about details and consequently I was in their face all too often. They addressed every concern I had with incredible patience and professionalism. They worked with me without complaint every time I wanted to change things up. Also absolutely no haggling over pricing. No surprises when I received the final bill. I can’t recommend Hilberg Contracting enough.

I use them all the time and they are excellent. He comes when he says he is going to and he comes quickly; I called him yesterday to say my showerhead was broken and he was able to come out today to fix it. He is personable and caring, and he’s one of those guys that I’ve gotten to know and he has become a friend. He is very thorough, he cleans up after himself, and he even took all of the scraps to the dump for me.

I am not going to use him for my services. He didnt get back to me for 5 hours, not even a message.

Unexpected problems along the way that were rectified.

Horrible. He said it was too cold to fix the gutter (it WAS freezing out but that's why I HIRED someone to fix it). He gave me reasons why he couldn't do various things. Maybe because of his health he didn't have the energy or drive to do most of the things I asked. Some examples were: -too cold to fix the gutter -too costly to fix the celing fan, might as well get a new one (he might have been right but didin't offer to install a new one) -he took the old shed lock out but I had to go to the locksmith to see if I could get a replacement and wound up installing it myself - - which required use of a paddle drill and other fun things I'd rather not be playing with. -he did give me a good idea on how to rig some locks for my hot tub cover but didn't want to do the work himslef. He said "Are you really worried about someone going in your hot tub in winter??". So, I made a couple trips to Lowes and got out my drill (again) and installed the locks myself. - I needed just a handfull of insulation to be put in a switch plate that is badly leaking in cold air and he asked me if I had any insulation lying around. If I HAD insulation lying around I'd have done it myself! This did not get done either. So, I got a new sink faucet installed (that I bought in advance), a shower curtain rod installed and a shower caddy put up that I'd already assembled out of the box (one piece needed to be cut to fit) and this is what I spent ~$250 on. There were a couple other things but these are some of the happy memories.

Howie and a helper arrived after a slight delay; he had called to explain the reason for the delay. They worked on my three problem areas. The drapery rod was repaired and the draperies rehung. The bedroom was repainted, large furniture moved back in and shelves and mini-blinds rehung. A ceiling area was patched, sanded, and stains covered. The dryer vent was installed in a crawl space area--not an easy job. The price listed above covered labor. I paid for paint and vent material. The job took a few days due to worker availability. I am well pleased.

He did fine. He worked in a team of two. He did everything he said he was going to do. He was fast and the work was done right. My expectations were matched.

I called Howie for an estimate. He returned my call quickly and was over for the estimate within a day. I had wallpaper to remove and Howie gave me a price with and without the wall paper removal. He encouraged me to try it myself and said he could always complete the removal if I had problems. I got it all off (using a 50/5/0 fabric softener/water mix) -- although Howie will be removing the next batch. His price was fair and he was able to start within a few days. He and his crew were punctual, clean and did what was agreed. Even before the job was finished I asked for a price to stain the deck. That job was done well also and again they did all they said they would -- including returning two days later to put everything back on the deck!

Overall the work went absolutely wonderful. Howie gave us his estimate in the beginning and this didn't change like some workers we have hired. We gave him half the money in the beginning before the work was started. We bought the paint ourselves because that was the deal. He started the day he said he would. Howie and his son( also the first day they brought another worker, Lewis) worked methodically and carefully. Howie vacuumed my steps and all areas were clean and perfect when they finished. They completed all the work in 2 days, I believe and a little part of another day. Howie and his son, Kevin, were hardworking and very nice and honest. We absolutely would hire Howie's Handymen again.

Excellent, very clean, honest, hard working individuals. I would highly recommend them. I left them in the house alone all 10 days and they would come in do the work that was needed for the day and leave. They can be trusted alone in the house. Howie was so nice he even hung pictures and shelves on my kitchen walls for me!
