The carpentry work was good, and we are confident that all the structural repairs were made properly.
The interior finish work was terrible. During sheetrock and mudding, the walls and ceiling were a hot mess. There were many problems with fitting the sheetrock. The coats of spackle were not put on smoothly as I would have expected. Very heavy globs of plaster were left to dry and then sanded off. In the end, the walls and ceilings "looked" smooth for the most part, but there were several problem areas that remained.
In two rooms, we had problems with the ceiling cracking after they left. In the worst room, Cornerstone came back to repair. The first repair attempt was made by the same person that did the original work. This repair did not last, because he still did not use proper technique. For the second repair attempt, Cornerstone sent a sheetrock professional. This time it was discovered that the crack was due to the sheetrock edge not being actually nailed to the ceiling joists at the location of the cracks. After a proper repair was made, and the edges of the sheetrock were actually nailed securely to the framing, the ceiling is holding up much better (still not perfect).
The dumpster was not properly placed on the driveway and we ended up with damage. The wood blocking used to distribute the weight was not positioned correctly, so the bottom wheels of the dumpster pushed into the blacktop over the course of the summer. Although the dumpster was mostly full after the roof job was completed, it sat in our driveway for the entire job. The workers would throw their food garbage into it. By the end it was really stinking. I asked on several occasions to have it remove, but was denied.
Cornerstone promised to work for the "agreed price" negotiated with our insurance carrier. They did not end up keeping to this and added many extra charges beyond what insurance had agreed to. For example, the insurance quote for roofing specified that it included removal and disposal of old shingles. Cornerstone charged extra for this.
All that being said, the work was all done in a timely manner. We were kept up to date on progress. Cornerstone was good at letting us know early when unseen work was required that would require extra payment.
