Masking tape was haphazardly applied. Then used cheap, flat brushes for delicate trim areas. Mahogany wood trim was over-painted. This was impossible to clean up, we had to actually trim the trims. Removed one door trim
and repainted wall without sanding trim edges. All had to be redone.
Needlessly removed cabinet, opened a perfectly intact wall...we stopped this nonsense just in time before they (there were two of
them) wanted to remove a light fixture for equally no sane reason.
Wanted to re-install bathroom fixtures without cleaning the floor, or anything else. At this point, we finally fired McGarry.
McGarry said he would finish patio brick work, which was foolishly pre-paid by us.
Nasty attitude, completely unprofessional.
We are writing this disclosure late just in case McGarry's "Green House.." would finish the brick job, give the senior discount
and offer an apology.
UPDATED JANUARY 15, 2013:
Customer response to the above:Comments:
Company Response: "The customer from the start was a difficult customer..."Customer response: Of course, a customer is always "difficult" when questioning anything
Company: "who kept interfering withwork,..." Customer: Wish I had been there the first day to "interfere" when this outfit opened up an entire, perfectly unblemished wall. That wall and all the others had to be sanded and repainted.
Company: "taking our tools to do other repairs around house,..." Customer: This sounds like McGarry is accusing me of theft. In reality, it was I who gave McGarry a decent paintbrush, which he never cleaned. Never cleaned his cheap bush either. I cleaned the brushes. I used his spackling tool once, with permission.
Company: "constantly looking over our shoulders..." Customer: Based on the wall experience I should have done more of that. McGarry hung around me and kept talking about his formerjob, from which he was fired, and gossiped about his former colleagues. BTW, that job was completely unrelated to his current "work".
Company: "Problems started when she would not let us do work in bathroom that was scheduled to be done that day because she wanted to scrub the floor first,.." Customer: Thought he said problems started right away, see above. But in this case, cleaning a floor before you move in a toilet and cabinets makes sense. This outfit should have done that the day before, see below.
Company: "we cleaned every day and would of wiped down the floor before doing work in that room." Customer: If only this were true, see above.
Company: "We are not the first contractor she stoped working on that project! Previous to us was a plumber hired by water compnay, we went in to fix/repair what he had left..." Customer: That's true. fix/repair the plumbers mess they left behind.
Company: "I did not know at the time that the plumber refused to come back to the jobbecause the customer gave him such a hard time." Customer: Sure McGarry knew this before he started, told me that - "most plumbers are slobs.." The plumbers were fired.
Company: "I did not charge the customer for the day of loss work when she did not let us work." Customer: Sadly, we paid for it in overcharges, but all he had to do is clean the bathroom floor, see above.
Company: "Also did not perform the "brick Work" because as I stated to her it wouldcause water to run into her house..." Customer: This guy is certainly no expert in water runoff, or anything else. We pre-paid for this! There were bricks still to be laid. Promised he would complete in a couple of weeks.
Company: "and was not part of the insurance claim she was trying to repair." Customer: Of course it was part of the insurance claim, and why would he care, it was part of the work to be done, see ' before' photo. Also see current photo of over-painted trim.
Company: "The customer thinks because she has done some work around her house before that she knows more then proffessionals." Customer: This guy should do us all a favor and not refer to himself as professional or eco-friendly. This guy should first go to tradeschool, then give straightforward estimates, and discounts as advertised. Otherwise find something you can do, whatever that is, but stay away from handy man jobs because you can't do it, don't understand it.
