A & E CONSTRUCTION

I contacted A & E Construction to get an estimate to fix the sagging wooden floors in my 1920's home. The young man who came out to assess the job seemed pleasant and professional. After taking measurements and photos of my floors, he encouraged me to consider a home energy audit. I did consider it (at first) and made an appointment with their energy audit specialist After several calls and emails with their energy audit specialist, I changed my mind and decided I only wanted to fix the floors. Well, it seemed like I got dropped like a hot potato at that point. Two weeks later, I called to politely check on the status of my estimate and was assured it was on the way. Another week went by. I didn't want to seem pushy because I knew they were probably busy and my job wasn't exactly a big one. I figured they just didn't want the work. Just to be sure, I emailed and called again, two weeks later. Then I got an email from the man who came to my house with a proposal attached. He claimed he sent it the week before, right after I called him the first time (it had actually been 2 weeks but I let it go). I couldn't find any emails from him in my inbox or spam folder. Plus, the proposal document had been created that same day he sent it to me so I was a bit suspicious. The proposal content was very lacking in detail compared to the other estimates I got, with no detailed description or materials--just gave an hourly rate and a (wide) margin for how many hours it might take. In general, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but this did seem a little odd--like something he whipped off in a couple of minutes instead of giving it any real thought. Maybe the quality of A & E Construction's work is good--I'll never find out--but I think if a company doesn't want to do a job, they should be honest and say so, instead of just ignoring people. At minimum, an apology would be nice. By the way, the floor refinisher gave me another name of a much more professional and responsive company.
