ATRAF SAFE & SOUND MOVING

Atraf provided unbelievably terrible and dishonest service. First: the bait and
switch. They estimated that my move from Brooklyn to Chicago should cost
about $2500. A man came to my apartment (1BR) was very pleasant, wrote
an estimate, and so it began. When the movers came they were sloppy and
uncareful. They scratched the walls moving and I ended up having several
hundred dollars taken from my security deposit. The switch happened when once the truck was loaded. I was told that the final price would only be possible to assess once the truck was loaded. Second: the lie. So I called to check back in
to make sure that estimate was acurate and of course, it was more than double the estimate. They told me that my stuff (sofa, bed, book boxes) were more than double the weight of what they estimated. They told me that the combined weight of my 1BR was just under 4 tones! Utterly preposterous. Third: Agression When I questioned how the estimate could have been so high, the guy literally started screaming at me on the phone in a heavily accented voice. Fourth: intimidation. The movers themselves were initially sort of friendly but when they got to the destination were aggressively about asking for a tip, which I was planning on giving initially but then felt really angry about. They stood around me and to be honest, I felt intimidated. So  I coughed another $200 to avoid and altercation with 4 guys in my new apartment. Fifth: broken stuff. Nothing too out of the ordinary in this regard. A broken (bent) lamp. A broken bookshelf. My nice antique dining table had a big scratch in it. I wouldn't have been to upset if they weren't jerks. When I called the moving company to complain about that part, of course, no help. The Israeli guy at the office had already yelled at me the last time we communicated. Ironically, by the way, because I speak some Hebrew, and told him to relax in his own language, he started to yell at me in Hebrew! Hilarous. Anyway, they took no responsibility. I was starting medical school and didn't have the time or energy to sue or file a complaint, so I left it alone till now. But this was one of the worst experiences hiring anyone to do anything I could imagine. STAY AWAY!!!
