We were working with a limited budget and had never hired contractors to do any work before, as this was the first home that we ever owned. After being quoted some astronomical prices from several contractors we met Mike, the owner of MLCurran Construction in the park by our house where we walk our dog. He came over and looked at our kitchen and bathroom, took some measurements and discussed all the details of what we wanted to do. We have a small, historic, railroad style, one bedroom condo, 570sq ft, which was built in 1886, and then renovated in the 1980's. Mike spent over an hour with us, answering all of our questions and detailing all of the options we had in the way of design, materials, and ways he was willing to work with us to save us money. He definitely knows what he is doing, and was incredibly knowledgeable about products available and the best ways to design a small but beautiful and functional kitchen. We decided that my wife and I would do all of the work we could ourselves, which included the demolition of the existing tile floors and the kitchen cabinets, purchasing of all of the appliances and materials, and then the painting at the end of the job. Mike showed us the most effective ways to demo the cabinets and the floors and we went to work. Once the demo was done, we designed and ordered our cabinets from Ikea, and put them together ourselves. While we were away over the weekend, Mike installed the new tile floors, 12" ceramic slate style. Together, Mike and I hung the new cabinets, and then he cut and installed the butcher block countertops, installed the sink, dishwasher, stove, and the range hood. The finished product looks amazing! All the work was done over several weekends, which allowed me to be his assistant and learn a great deal about carpentry, which has been priceless with my other projects. Mike has also made himself available since then to answer questions I have had about other projects. Also, doing the work that we did ourselves saved us a great deal of money, which we used for other projects around the condo. Mikes work is impeccable, he is professional, trustworthy, made good on all of his commitments to us, and was very easy to work with. We have used him again, and so have our friends, and our condo association. We will definitely use MLCurran Construction in the future.
