Mitchell W.
Dec 2012
From the very beginning, this company has engaged in deceptive sales practices and consumer fraud. They ignore my phone calls, e-mails, letters from my Attorney, and failed to respond to a complaint I filed with the BBB. While I will not go into every single detail of my experience with this company, I will highlight a few examples:
1). Prior to my signing the contract in June 2010, they told me that they had an "Expeditor" who could assist in navigating the NYC DOB filing and permit process. At no time did they ever tell me that the "Expeditor" is actually a licensed Architect who is not employed by this Compnay. Nor did they tell me that I would be responsible for engaging and paying $4,000 to the Architect to file plans and applications for building permits;
2). They knew that my apartment building was performing roof repairs, and that all repairs needed to be completed prior to the delivery and installation of the Sunroom. Nevertheless, they went ahead and ordered the Sunroom without my knowledge, and then attempted to harass me on 3 seperate occasions into taking delivery (to get the $15,000 due upon delivery) before the roof repairs were completed;
3). Roof repairs were delayed due to the 2010-2011 snowstorms, but was completed in May 2011, and the Coop allowed us to schedule delivery;
4). Ridgewood Sales failed to deliver detailed drawings of the project, copies of Contractor's license and proof of insurance in a timely manner to the Building's Coop Board which caused delivery to be delayed until September 2011;
5). Prior to delivery, we had a number of conversations regarding how Ridgewood Sales would get the materials to the 15th floor as we knew some pieces were too large to fit into the elevator. Ridgewood Sales told me not to worry about it, and that they would ensure all pieces would be delivered to the 15th floor; Delivery was scheduled for September 16, 2011, months after they roof work was completed;
6). Delivery (partial) was made on 9/16/11. The delivery receipt literally read, "PU Check 1st" indicating to the delivery folks that they were to take my CASHIER's check before making the delivery. Then, after giving them the $15,000 and all materials were removed from the truck, I was told that the framing pieces were too large to fit in the elevator (we already knew this). The Delivery guy said they would leave them in the Building's Courtyard, and the Installer would move the to the 15th floor;
7). Fast forward to today, 1/12/12: Despite a contract that specifically states, Installation "Start date will commence within ten (10) working days following material delivery...", The framing pieces remain in my building's courtyard, and Ridgewood Sales refuses to accept responsibility to hoist the framing pieces to the 15th floor. They want me to pay them an additional $3,000;
Also note the "arbitration clause" in their contract. This is obviously there to ensure that when Ridgewood Sales "rips off" their customers, the customer has little legal recourse! This company is to be avoided at ALL costs!
