In October 2020 I ordered from Denny Wiggers Garden Center the top soil. The very nice representative showed me a pile of black and clean topsoil and assured me that I will have the same. She issued contract and I paid. After several phone calls the soil was delivered. In May I started my work in garden and I discovered that unfortunately I received not a top soil, but pretty bad filler. With aim to recovery my investment I thought that I can screen the "top soil", but it was impossible. There were too many stones, bricks and wood logs. Finally I decided to use the soil as filler and in current situation it was a best idea – the surface covered with soil is strong as cement. I found on the website several identical complaints. It eased my self pity. I found that not only I was stupid enough to buy top soil in Denny Wiggers Garden Center and I was deceived the same way as other customers. Very often I am passing the office of the Company on Passaic Rd and I should assure future customers that the same sample pile of good black and clean top soil could be seen on the entrance.

Driver broke out in ground basketball hoop when dumping wood in our driveway. For 6 months the owner promised to fix it. He finally took the hoop to repair it and then dumped it back in my driveway still broken a month later.

just received a cord of unseasoned wood. I was told it would be seasoned, when I called and asked about it. Plus its wet. Smoking out my neighborhood. Why would I order unseasoned wood in February. Seriously will not be going here again. Guess they didn't realize I have been burning wood for 30 years. This is NOT SEASONED AT ALL!! I should have been charged for a cord of unseasoned wood!!

I chose them because my mother-in-law used them for 10 years. His prices are reasonable. The job was pretty good.

We were satisfied with them. His stone work is exceptional and something to find elsewhere. It was a fair price.

I requested an estimate from Denny to install a pump in our fishpond and to grade the soil out from the side of our house to prevent water from getting into our basement. He provided me an estimate of $1500 for soil grading (which also included installing some additional pipes so the water was diverted away from the house) and $750 for the pond work. I responded to his quote saying that I thought his estimate was high and I had to think about it. He never responded.
A few days later I decided to have the pond work done and emailed him to that affect and asked when he would be able to do the work. Again, I received no response. A couple of days later I looked out my window and saw two guys preparing to begin work in my yard. I went outside to see Denny and a few of his guys unloading materials from a truck. I said that he never got back to me and I didn't realize that he was going to be here today, his response was and quot;Yea, I guess I should have told youand quot;. He then proceeds to tell me about the work he is going to do and it's clear he was planning on doing all of the work, not just the pond. I tell him I don't want him doing the soil grading, just the pond work. He was clearly annoyed with me, although this was completely his fault.
His guys did an excellent job with my pond, I was very happy with the end result. Unfortunately after it was completed, Denny tells me and quot;So we had to install a pump, I think I should be compensated for thatand quot;, I tell him I assumed that was included in the original estimate and since the whole point of having the work done was to get the water circulating in my pond why he would give me an estimate that didn't include a pump is unclear. He then said ok, just pay the original estimate.
A couple of problems with how this was handled:
  • As a contractor you can't just show up at someone's house without confirming with him first. If I hadn't been home he would have done work that I would have refused to pay for some of it, setting up a bad situation for everyone involved.
  • Providing an estimate for a pond that doesn't have circulating water without including the pump is not reasonable. The only reason I wanted the work done on the pond was to install a pump and I was clear about that when we talked.

Overall the work his guys did was very good, but the communication and how everything was handled was unprofessional. Denny was recommended by one of my neighbors, so I'm assuming that this is generally not how he works. All in all I'm sure it was not his finest moment. I clicked yes on would I use him again in the review, because maybe was not an option. I wouldn't rule it out, but there would have to be very clear communication in writing up front before I used him again.

Very nice guy but not happy with the work.
When the truck pulled up with the spruce they were of poor quality probably left overs for the season. I told him I wasn't happy about the quality but he assured me they were good. When the trees were planted the burlap was not removed, the metal wire around was not removed and the rope not removed. Trees starting dying right away. After many phone calls he replaced some but not all the ones that were dying.
For what I wanted these were not the trees to be planted.
Not happy at all with the look and quality.

Denny is a man of his word . We lost 4 large boxwoods he planted in March . They all died. He came over and looked and replaced them. This is a very busy season for him, yet he took the time and raised no complaints about whose fault.. it was..If only other other businesses ran this way.Salli

I got a very nice young lady on the phone and we set up an appointment for early next morning. They had truck trouble so they called to change the date. Denny came went over everything with my husband and right from the start we were impressed. He was knowledgeable, funny and understanding about costs since we live on a fixed income.

He came with a crew of 3 and gave them orders . He left telling us to he would be back around four to check
everything out. Meanwhile to treat the crew leader as a butler tell him everything you want done, and he'll do it.By the time he came back every thing was done.

I would recommend Denny Wiggers 100 times over.

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT COMPANY AND WE ARE VERY PLEASED. THEY STAYED WITHIN THE ESTIMATE THEY QUOTED AND THE WORK WAS COMPLETED IN THE AGREED TIME FRAME. EVERYTHING WAS NICE AND CLEAN AFTER THEY WERE FINISHED.
