"Dear Angie's List. After immediate concern of an embellished, and for the most part, fabricated and negative review, we immediately contacted [Member name removed]. She was in bed, and we unfortunately woke her up. She has non idea who may have written this review, and says she certainly did not, and in fact has recommended us to other friends. I confirmed with her, that when we finished the job, that everything was in good standing, which she has just also confirmed with us via phone."
In addition :
1. Mr, Baird obtained a roofing permit, but no siding permit (a town requirement);
2. He did not show up to pay the dumpster company so the dumpster remained in my driveway for a number of days after his crew left. I called the dumpster company to let them know the situation and they were also unable to reach him. Eventually the dumpster company took the dumpster away since it was needed for another client but they did not clean up (a task Mr. Baird told me he would do);
3. Mr. Baird saw my fixtures, but left the wrong size light boxes hanging from uncapped wires. I had to figure out where to obtain the proper size light boxes that would match the siding. I also had to find another contractor to install 3 light boxes and 3 fixtures.
The Saturday after Superstorm Sandy Chris Baird of Baird Roofing responded to a text I sent him and came to our house that very day to inspect the damage. He appeared very well informed and seemed to know his stuff. He gave me a very, very rough verbal estimate while on-site but said he would send me a written estimate that I could forward to my insurance company for review. (Please note I spoke to other roofers and contractors as well but since I did not pursue any business with them other than phone conversations and preliminary estimates I am not including any reviews of them or providing any comparisons.) It took Chris Baird about two weeks to provide us with the written estimate. While that may seem like a long time to some, in all fairness to Baird Roofing, they were inundated with request for estimates and repair work, as I'm sure many other contractors were after Superstorm Sandy. (FYI - my insurance company provided tarping services to cover the roof damage until repair/replacement could be performed.)
Once I received the written estimate, which I found to be reasonable and competitive, I forwarded it to my insurance company and they moved with dispatch to contact Chris Baird to discuss the estimate, materials and labor costs. Chris Baird was very responsive to the insurance company, spoke to them extensively and reviewed with them all aspects of the estimate they inquired about. The estimate and repair work was approved by my insurance company that same day.
Once the work was approved, it took Baird Roofing approximately three weeks to actually start the work. Again, while that may seem like an extended delay, Baird Roofing was very busy during this time performing repair work for other victims of Superstorm Sandy, weather conditions during these weeks were not always conducive to installing a new roof and the Thanksgiving holiday also took place during this time. Nonetheless, while we waited for the work to begin, Chris Baird came by to bring us tile/shingle samples, which included a wide range of colors of the tiles/shingles we could choose from for the new roof. We made our choice of color and scheduled the start date.
There was an additional delay of a few days due to bad weather, but once the work began Baird Roofing proceeded like a well oiled machine. They prepped, stripped and installed a new roof in a day. Baird Roofing provided a dumpster, post-work cleanup - including magnetically sweeping our driveway, front lawn and walkway and our neighbor's driveway and walkway to remove any loose nails that may have fallen to the ground during the roof replacement. Baird Roofing also provided final touch-up and inspection, and installed a chimney cap - at our request - for an additional nominal fee. Aside from the additional fee for the chimney cap, Baird Roofing's estimate was spot on and there were no additional costs associated with the roof replacement.
Overall, we were very pleased and satisfied with Baird Roofing's work, and considering the circumstances they were operating under after Superstorm Sandy, their responsiveness. We would highly recommend Baird Roofing and would certainly hire them again if needed.
